It's a little xenophobic that you feel the need to put down proper football, claiming that it should be more like America's favourite sports. I like American "foot"ball but if you are talking about delays you can't beat that sport when it comes to them. That's why some people think the Superbowl can be tarnished if the commercials are bad.

Also I would like to add that Hooliganism isn't an issue nowadays, yes it pops up rarely, but it's normally on a national level. For example Britain's Hooligans (Who have almost been stamped out when it comes to top flight football) are not even football fans, but Right wing Racist organisations who hijack the game. Italy's are far left and far right political groups using the sport as a front, so they can fight each other.

The reason Mexico shows that they are true Football fans, is because they have passion, and faith that their team could lift the trophy no matter how improbable that might seem to other nations. There's no point being a fan, if don't believe your team can win.
Would America really stop enjoying their favourite sports, if for some unlikely reason the rest of world started playing as good or better than them?

As for diving, well that is something that really does need sorting out, maybe both teams could have two Replay requests during the game?

I don't want soccer to become like American football. I think the rules and basic fundementals of soccer are ok. I just think its too boring with not enough excitement. The punting it back and forth 50 times before there is even a proper scoring opportunity means the field is too large and there are too many players.

Eliminate the pretending to be injurred and the game quickens as well. Allow constant substitutions so that the freshest players are always on the field.

These don't really change the game, it just makes it more exciting. I'd watch that in a heartbeat, because I do want to like the game and competition.

While were at it, why don't we give everyone a ball too! :cuckoo:
Then we will have a lot of scoring! :panic:

I want England to lose so I can have a good laugh at all the plastic patriots crying into their beer.

Last time they were in a tournament a house across the road from me was literally covered in flags or it was until England went out then they literally disappeared overnight :cuckoo:

I'll say one thing for the USA as a country, they are at least genuine about their love of the flag and are proud to fly it all year round.

England dont need to remind everyone constantly how good we are or how patriotic we are

We get behind our team when our team plays

Just cause we dont fly a St. Georges cross in our back gardens 365 doesnt mean we arent patriotic

Plastic Patriots, heres a plastic patriot for you

I think it's perfect the way it is and at the higher skilled levels the games are always exciting.

For me a WC game will never be as exciting SKILL wise as a premier league game or FA cup game cause the national teams are all less skilled then club teams. That said its country vs country in the most popular sport in the world on the biggest sporting stage in the world.....whats not too like about that?

I don't have flags but almost every house around here does and the millions of cars. :lol Did you see on the news the guy that has painted his whole roof red & white? that's gonna take some getting off. :rotfl

I'm not a plastic patriot either but i love my football so of course i'm going to want England to win. :yess:

Yeah I saw that. On our local news there was also a story about the staff of a pub that have all changed their name by deed poll to Wayne Rooney for the duration of the tournament.

I suppose they should be commended for getting behind the only decent player England have. It would have looked pretty tragic if they had changed it to Gerrard or Lampard :)

The funniest thing I've read about this tournament so far is the quote from Maradona where he wishes for all the teams to adopt a spirit of fair play :lol

to be fair though, he probably just snorted a line of coke when he said that :lol

Wow, Greece played absolutely ____. For a team who relies so heavily on defensive play, they did a pretty pathetic job at it. :lol Way too many hopeful balls over the top and not enough fluency. Good win by the Koreans, though.

Nice to see a Man Utd player get on the scoresheet for Korea :)
