Totally outclassed by the Germans but even by our standard it was a pretty poor performance which made them look better than they actually were.

Not sure why the coach started with this line up playing people out of position although it was always going to be hard and now with our best player suspended we are in all sorts. I'll never right off the aussie spirit but with conceding 4 will have to win both our remaining games.

Anyone that knows anything about football can see we have gone backwards since the last WC and as said definitely a weaker squad. Also injuries to key players in the lead up and with a lack of depth is always going to hurt us more than the quality sides. Coach has done alright but he aint no Hiddink.

Agreed. We gave them way too much space and played a high line which didn't work out for us at all. Ozil was great though, I have to say. Could've had two goals himself. The holding midfielders didn't really do their jobs in stopping the supply of Ozil and Muller, but then again, no one had a good game and did their job effectively well.

As for the starting line up, I'm not sure why he would put Cahill as a striker, since he is known for playing behind and around them, but I could understand playing Culina on the left to stop Lahm and putting Valeri in his usual space. We should've had a penalty in the second half, since it was a CLEAR handball, but the linesman and ref seemed to be working for the Germans that night. The red card was total BS, and at that point, we should've been back to 2-1 with 11 men and a chance at getting a draw. Oh well, moving on, we need to beat Ghana and Serbia and seeing as we have had good results against Ghana before, I am confident in a win.

That's a great pic.:lol:lol I just read an article on Yahoo about those plastic horns. Supposedly they're so loud they've been attributed to hearing loss in some fans. I don't watch soccer so I'd never heard about them before.

Unfortunately those horns-vuvuzela take away from the atmosphere if anything. Heard FIFA was thinking of banning them but didn't want to upset the locals. Can definitely affect a persons hearing and they are damn annoying and i cant see any real positive that they bring to the beautiful game.

Congrats to the Germans they played well and some ref decisions
also made it easier for them. I wont make excuses, Germany was the
better team on the day.
Germany's first goal was scored off side.
there was a clear hand ball that was not paid (penalty)
Cahill red card total BS.
Anyway, putting that behind me and looking forward to our next
game against Gahna this Friday night.

No it wasn't the defender near the penalty spot was playing the guy that crossed it onside, pause this video at 15 secs and you can see that. They played it enough on tv and everyone agreed it was onside.

Germany looked great last night they'll be a match for anyone.

It is passive offside so comes down to the officials and its pause at 16 seconds.:nana: ;)

Despite that there was the handball and the harsh sending off. Sure we played poorly and just gave them far too much space especially out wide and you know if your a minor football nation like ourselves your not going to get the 50/50 calls against a super power like Germany.

WC '06 against Italy taught us that much.

At 16 the ball is well on it's way and the player is still onside only a bad official would give offside at that. Sending off was a joke and the handball could have been given on another day. Either way they were far better and could have had many more if truth be told.

Oh you mean the player standing near the spot is passive offside? i thought you meant the player that crossed it. :lol

The guy in the middle is always passively offside before the ball is played and after hence why the aussie doesn't bother moving as he knows there is a player offside standing next to him. Again passive comes down to the interpretation of the officials Jay.;)

If we had scored that early chance we would have been some hope as we would have sat back tight but once they scored early everything had to open up which suited an excellent team like Germany. No doubt outclassed but nothing went our way and we needed at least half the decisions to get a result.

I see there was another shocking keeper error not in the same class as Green but at this level whats going on?

Edit-All good mate just saw your post as i saved.

Go the Aussies and Go the Poms.;)

I thought the Serbian defence look extremely well organised, if not for the hand ball it did end up a goal-less game.

I seriously think the Aussies will not stand a chance against the other 2 opponents if they play the way they did in the Germany game.:slap

Yeah i know how the offside rules work fella ;)

You know full well from watching football week in week out that if someone standing in an offside postion doesn't move towards the ball the officials never give offside.

I'm not trying to be a ____ but that is just the truth and you know it. :lol :wink1:

I hope you get out of the group and wanted you to smash them but it was the other way around. :(

On to the next game.:)

I am taking Denmark. I think their defence can hold the Dutch, but they would need a bit of luck to score.:lol

With this ball just shoot as much as you can and hope their keeper does a Rob Green. :rotfl

Your right Jay whilst they use to call passive these days its a rarity but whether its right is debateable.

As you can tell Jay i'm just disappointed by our performance and its Matt or old fella if you prefer.:lol

No way Denmark lost to us and we played similar to last night so i'm thinking the lads in orange should take it.

:lol

Old fella it is then. :nana: :wink1:

Nah we both know how disappointment feels after last season and i felt the same way after our draw with USA. :(

Good luck for the rest of the tournament, Matt. :)

I am suspecting some of the bad passing we see in this WC is due to the new ball...

Maybe no need to shoot, you can score by passing the ball to the keeper.:lol

:lol I tell ya i couldn't have done a lot worse than some of our lads last night. Also i'm betting you and i would have saved Greens miss even after a case of coldies.

Always support England if we aren't in the tourny but would love to scrape through second and play you guys in the next round.

Germany the machine that they are will go far as usual but i still fancy someone like Spain but hopefully England finally reach their potential and take it.:hi5:
