I don't buy the talk that if they were in "real" leagues they wouldn't make it through without loses. They are very good teams. Just like Utah who rolled up on a Alabama team that was number one for a few weeks.

What hinders them from being in the big conferences is the lack of other sports.

Anyway, my OSU Cowboys are having a great time considering this was a rebuilding season. 6-0 and not a team left on the schedule that they can't beat getting the Children of the Corn and Gooners at home.

Lets see if Misery is for realz or not next weekend.

Anyone can beat anyone any given Saturday....teams like Boise St and Utah just wouldn't be able to do it week in and week out.

Anyone can win or lose. That is college football.

Why wouldn't they make it weeki in and out? Cause ESPN says so?

The Utah/Alabama game was not the norm, IMO, but it is evidence that good teams from crappy divisions could have a shot against good teams in good divisions *cough*playoffs*cough*.

Having said that, Grambling and Southern often play extremely fun to watch games in the "Bayou Classic," but could either of them stand up to the worst teams in good conferences? Probably not. And perfect record or no, if you don't prove yourself against serious competition in the regular season, I don't think you deserve a shot at the national title. Would I still prefer to see Boisie over USC? Sure. But I honestly don't think they deserve to be there.

If they were in those conferences they'd have much better recruiting as well, so I think they'd do fine. They obviously wouldn't dominate like they have the past few years but they'd do well IMO.

I'd say somewhat better recruiting, not much better. Their geography and cold weather hurt recruiting as much as anything.

Their offensive and defensive lines would be decimated by the time bowl season came around. Physically they couldn't take the pounded week in and week out due to giving up an average of 70-100 pounds per lineman throughout the year.

You can look at last year's Rose Bowl for an example of speed vs size.

Regarding better recruiting prospects, you can speculate all day, but you just don't know unless/until those teams actually move. Who knows about all the minutia that goes into recruiting? I suspect that a big chunk of that is a function of money/alumni support, which is going to be better for football teams with a history of prestige and winning (which a Utah or whomever would have to establish). Then, you have to prove yourself. If a Boisie St. goes to a major conference and ends up losing 3 games in the regular season (as would be very possible), are they going to have better recruiting than they had beforehand, or worse because they lose some of the perceived value that they had before, being a dominating team in a small pond?

Saying they would lose 3 games is just speculating as well.

Even Bama lost to a team that chocked the following week. It's college football.

Sure, but you go with the odds. Chances of any given team losing in any given week are good. Chances of a Boisie State going undefeated in the SEC? Extremely low, IMO. As some of us had been arguing, Boise simply doesn't play the level of competition to give a real sense that they could hang with the traditional "big boys," so until they can prove otherwise I'm gonna assume that they can't. And that's the big problem, because we just don't know. Playoff would fix this in some measure (though as 316 says, you still have the issue of being banged up, but that's an issue I could live with), but the current system leaves it up in the air.

They played in a bowl game last year against each other and it was not fun to watch.

They both need to join a major conference if they want to be champions. They can't play a few tough games a year and play patty-cake the rest of the year and expect to play for all the marbles.

I had a good time watching it. Not every game is gonna be fun. Plenty of SEC games I've found boring over the years cause its 17-10 and all they're doing is 3 yards and a cloud of dust.

It all depends on the year and all the players playing IMO.

Yup, and it happens to even big name schools. When the big 12 looked like it was totally gonna break up. Nobody wanted KU outside of the Mountain West. They have a very good basketball program but their football sucks and they have nothing else. You have to have other sports that draw people in.

getting the Children of the Corn

I hope you all beat the crap out of them. Arrogant bastards.

Like I said we got a good shot. Even if we lose that doesn't mean we're not. Especially if its a close loss.

Which like Wofford says, they will get even better with recruiting in a better conference.

I'd love to have seen them join the Big 12. TCU and Boise. Would be fun to see them come to town and it would be good for all.

I am just glad that Texas is back in the rankings. But for me, it's not good enough. I wanted them back in the bcs championship after what happened last year.

A team that gets stomped on by a terrible UCLA team at home isn't going to be playing for any championshipl.

Next year will be very interesting. U play everyone and no title game. We need to add a couple teams so there is one again.

Yea, but there are no real teams to pick up. I don't want them to add any more Texas teams, that will just be closer to recreating the failed Southwest Conference.

I still don't think the B12 will last much longer, the merger with the Pac 10/12 will happen. Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas and Texas Tech will prolly join them with Mizzery going off to the B10 with Notre Lame and a coupe Big East teams.

I could see 2 of those 4 teams going to the SEC.
