I feel bad for Abby, she wanted it the most and she showed it with her clutch goals every match and she was the only one with confidence in the PK's today. The loss hurts, but because Japan won it (and earned every bit of it), it doesn't hurt so bad NOW. It prolly means more to them over there, than if the US won it over here. Still have the olympics to redeem themselves...........

I kind of feel good for Japan as well. Anything that can make them feel proud and happy, even for a little while, is ok in my book... they sure deserve something good these days.

I will say this. No game should end on a shootout. The NHL half figured this out for the big games. That said the US had left goals all over the place in the first half. They beat themselves. That would hurt bad being on that team and rewatching the match.

Gag job by the US women today idc how ESPN tries to spin it. When you blow not 1 but 2 leads in a final you choked pure and simple.

Also Hope Solo is overrated, the US squad has handed her many leads which she's squandered and it cost them today, hope we're done getting her jammed down our throats daily.

on one of the penalty kicks, she went the wrong way & just stood there. didn't even try to get the ball

Heartbreaking. Abby played great and was great again in yesterdays final but damn a little help at the end would have been nice.

Congratulations to Japan! :clap

I thought the US played very well this WC, if not superb in the WC Final. They ran into a highly inspired team with Japan, though. Combine that with some bad luck on part of the US (2 goals in 27 shots! 27!!!!), and it made for a very dramatic ending.

Play of the game was Japan clearing the confused Krieger and Buehler and scoring in the 81st. Turning over a ball that deep is a no-no, especially in the WC Final. Too bad, because the defense had played very well all day, too.

Like Badmoon said, I also don't care for PKs ending a WC Final (even in '99), but them are the rules unfortunately. Hopefully they change it someday.

One last thought - I'm looking forward to seeing this team next year in London. Overall they had the most talent of all the WC teams. They were able to (for the most part) control the tempo of each match superbly. I also thought Hope Solo was better than decent in this tournament, given the recent shoulder surgery and especially for missing the Q's.

Hopefully this team can regroup, focus and pull off the gold in 2012! :yess:

You ever play goalie? If you guess wrong your done.

Really the blame is more on the shooters. They let the fact the japan see there shots already. When I coached I told players if you can drive the ball to your spot the goalie has little chance to make the save. Instead they were tentative and were stopped or airmailed to seats.

Perfect example is the one Hope gets a piece of but still goes in.

I agree she's overrated, but there wasn't anything she could have done with the 2 goals Japan scored. The defense made one too many mistakes and their offense didn't capitalize on enough good opportunities. They also missed their first 3 PK's, so there's plenty of blame to go around.

I agree about the whole PK thing, it's like if the NBA went to a free throw contest if the game were tied.
