John Wick

Those were the only ones I really liked.

Nightcrawler was interesting.

Didn't see much of anything that came out this year aside from Days of Future Past, which I liked a lot... and then there's Interstellar...

Pretty good year, I think.

Saw and liked:
X-Men DOFP
Winter Soldier
Guardians of the Galaxy

Missed but look good:
Gone Girl
John Wick
Interstellar

Loved 2014.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier
The Lego Movie
Snowpiercer
Godzilla
X-Men: Days of Future Past
Guardians of the Galaxy
Big Hero Six
Fury
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

Didn't see:

Gone Girl
Interstellar
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

Not a lot I agree but for my list it was enough to get me through the year happy. For me it was Guardians of the Galaxy, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, X-Men: Days of Future Past and John Wick. I just saw the Hobbit but it wasn't a top movie for me this year. I did also see Godzilla and Fury but they weren't my top.

One of the top super hero movie years yet, but in terms of traditional action movies, comedies, and dramas there isn't a lot that stands out to me.

I liked,

Snowpiercer
Birdman
The Winter Soldier
Gone Girl
John Wick
Planet of the Apes
Guardians of the Galaxy
Nightcrawler

Haven't seen Foxcatcher, Inherent Vice or Hobbus III: Battle of too many plot points yet.

Meh year?

Birdman
Boyhood
Gone Girl
Nightcrawler
Guardians of the Galaxy
The Lego Movie
Edge of Tomorrow
The Winter Soldier
Fury
The Grand Budapest
How to Train Your Dragon 2
Interstellar
Days of Future Past

Still coming/need to see : Inherent Vice(good reviews), Foxcatcher(good reviews), St. Vincent(good reviews), Dawn of the Planet of the Apes(good reviews), 300 : Rise of an Empire

let downs : Dumb and Dumber To, Sin City 2, Spiderman 2, A Million Ways to Die in the West, Transcendence, Robocrap

I agree, I thought this was a particularly strong year for movies. The only thing that was missing was a good comedy, but I laughed so much during GOTG that I can overlook that.

I saw and enjoyed all the things I bolded.

Also, Book of Life and Big Hero 6 were fantastic, and watched Chef last night, and I would definitely add that one to the list.

Oh Yeah, and how could I forget Hobbit:BOTFA

Yeah, Holy Christ, 2014 did have a lot of good movies.

Winter Soldier was enjoyable. And they finally made an X-Men movie I could stomach. Guardians was better than IM3 but not as good as IM1. And despite whatever anyone is saying about Maleficent, I liked it - they finally were doing away with that "love at first sight" nonsense that fooled a few generations of Disney watchers into confusing lust with love (Long overdue); this movie had more redeeming social value than Guardians (which was still a fun semi-violent romp).

So not a horrible year, just the usual mixture.

2014 was a great year:
Gaurdians of the Galaxy
Captain America 2
Malificent
22 Jump Street
Monuments Men
X-Men Days of Futures Past
Godzilla
Tammy

The Winter Soldier
Edge of Tomorrow
Guardians of the Galaxy
Fury

. . .

Good enough year.

BS. There was plenty to enjoy this year. How to Train your dragon 2, Dawn of the Planet of the apes, Xmen DOFP, Edge of Tomorrow and GOTG should be on that list too. Add 22 Jump street, lego movie, big hero 6 and most of the Hobbit too I do agree with your picks too and I love Nightcrawler. Only film I regret missing to see was Fury. I kinda enjoyed interstellar too. Throw in Birdman, Foxcatcher, 300 and Chef too

300 was as much of a let down as sin city for me. it felt unnecessary and tacked on

Compared to what's on tap for next year, 2014 was a so-so movie year. Not to mention dat summer...

Summer Box Office Anaylsis: ‘Weak Slate,’ Demanding Moviegoers | Variety

No doubt next year will be a banner year for ticket sales, though it should be mentioned that the article (while not the point your alluding to) is dated in that by years end there will have been two movies to cross the $300 million domestic gross threshhold, GOTG and Hunger Games 3.

Next year may also be a bloodbath if the key features are not positioned correctly. Even though it feels very un-star warsy, December may prove a great release date, as it will avoid much of the box office clutter, and will actually bolster profits in the industry for 2015 and 2016.

Let the hate flow! :)

I also loved How To Train Your Dragon, Equalizer, 300, All You Need Is Kill,,,,

Snowpiercer started very meh, got pretty good and then fell apart.
