What I'm most looking forward to next year

Star Wars : The Force Awakens
The Hateful Eight
Avengers : Age of Ultron
Mad Max : Fury Road
Chappie
SPECTRE (James Bond)
Jurassic World
Ant-Man
Tomorrowland
Mission : Impossible 5

No doubt next year will be a banner year for ticket sales, though it should be mentioned that the article (while not the point your alluding to) is dated in that by years end there will have been two movies to cross the $300 million domestic gross threshhold, GOTG and Hunger Games 3.

Next year may also be a bloodbath if the key features are not positioned correctly. Even though it feels very un-star warsy, December may prove a great release date, as it will avoid much of the box office clutter, and will actually bolster profits in the industry for 2015 and 2016.

Good point. It's weird when crossing the $300 million domestic box office threshold has become so blasé. AoU will be a "bust" to many if it doesn't break at least $400 million domestic, maybe even $500 million. And there'll be those looking to jump from a great height if it doesn't exceed Avengers.

Just look at what AoU has to live up to:

Domestic - $623,357,910
Foreign - $895,237,000
Worldwide - $1,518,594,910

I didn't see as many movies as I intended too, which in a few instances, was a good thing.

Movies I saw and liked:

CA: Winter Soldier
X-Men DoFP
Transformers: AoE
Guardians of the Galaxy
Penguins of Managascar
The Hobbit
Night at the Museum SotT

Movies I meant to see and didn't (good & bad):

Muppets Most Wanted
Divergent
Noah
Rio 2
Spiderman 2
Godzilla
Edge of Tomorrow
Snowpiercer
Dawn of the PotA
Into the Storm
Dracula
John Wick
Interstellar
Big Hero 6
Exodus
300: RotE
Peabody & Sherman
TMNT
The Maze Runner
The Box Trolls
How to Train Your Dragon 2

I'll be taking Mom to see The Hobbit and that will be the last movie I'll see in 2014.

Absolutely, Avengers is Avengers 2's worst enemy, as far as looking successful is concerned, the bar is set so impossibly high for it. I wonder if when Avatar 2 is released, if it would even stand a chance of approaching the originals box office.

Can only wait and see, I guess. Personally, I'm a big Star Wars fan, but I don't think Star Wars can even do Avengers numbers, even if it's a slam dunk.

I think next year definitely had the potential to best this year based on the big blockbusters front. I didn't even realize Star Wars was next year. Can't go wrong with Tarantino, Whedon, and that crazy ****ing Mad Max movie.

One movie from this year that I never see talked about on this board was The Book Of Life, which is surprising since Guillermo Del Toro ad some involvement (Producer) in it.

It really was a great film, beautiful, funny, well-written and directed. It is the most tragically overlooked film of this year, I hope it finds an audience when it comes to video.

And yet in spite of the above line-up I fear that Fantastic Four alone might forever stamp 2015 in the annals of history as "a dark year for films."

Can't say that it was any worse than previous years - some great stuff came out:

Imitation Game
Guardians of the Galaxy
Theory of Everything
Birdman
Days of Future Past
Big Hero 6
How to Train 2
Robocop
Interstellar
Gone Girl

2014 was a great year for movies. my favorite film of all time came out this year Interstellar.
i also really love Noah and The Signal.

Didn't care for any of the superhero movies that came out this year, especially Winter Soldier. What an overrated snoozefest.

Fury is the best film I've seen this year, followed by Dawn of the Apes. I haven't seen Gone Girl yet but I imagine that will top the charts for me.

You'll love gone girl. It'll blow your mind.

Let's see...

1.Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)
2.Captain America: The Winter Soldier
3.Guardians of the Galaxy
4.X-Men:Days of Future Past
5.Interstellar
6.Edge of Tomorrow
7.Nightcrawler
8.Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
9.John Wick
10.Gone Girl

Honorable Mentions: Boyhood. A great (literal) coming of age film.
Jersey Boys. It's Clint Eastwood and the story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, c'mon.
The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies. Probably my favorite Hobbit movie, but there just wasn't enough room on the list.

Also, "Only Lovers Left Alive".

There's a directors' cut? Yeah, that was one hell of a ride as well.

I genuinely don't know how I forgot Chef and The Drop. I'd probably put Chef above Boyhood and The Drop above Gone Girl, honestly.
