Black Panther is not an Oscar winning Best Picture film. It wasn't even the best Marvel film. It's all about the politics. We're living in a time where everything now has to be culturally sensitive. It's not based on merit, but how will it make everyone feel.

That same film with a predominantly white cast would not have been taken in any way seriously by the academy. I believe this is what they call the soft bigotry of low expectations. But hey, they'll take it.

I'm not opposed to the superhero genre getting recognition, in fact I'd love it. But Avengers Infinity War was the film to recognize - in a similar vein to how Lord of the Rings Return of the King got the nod as being the culmination of a huge film-making endeavor.

For films focusing on race, racism, racial division etc Green Book and Blackkklansman had that covered and they did so with genuine merit IMO.

Boom, boom, and boom. Perfectly said. Especially about a Lion King remake with a Phantom Menace battle at the end being laughed out of the Academy if it featured a white cast.

I'm happy for BPs Nominations. Good thing for the Comicbook Genre as a whole. :)

It is a feather in the cap of the MCU I suppose. First superhero movie to ever be nominated for Best Picture. Not Nolan. Not Logan. Not Sony Spider-verse.

All 3 of those are Excellent movies too! I'm not even mad if BP doesn't win the Oscar which I don't think it will.
I do hope that Spider-verse takes the Animation Oscar, and either Infinity War or Ready Player One take it for best Visual FX. Too bad Aquaman didn't make these.

I can understand Black Panther being nominated. We were all pretty much expecting that.

Don't have a clue why Bohemian Rhapsody is in for Best Picture. Critics tore it apart. Looks like the Academy is going for the meme picks this year.

This makes Black Panther the greatest superhero film of all-time. If you disagree, you're just a racist.

Surprised anyone watches this anymore. Like I need to hear politics in entertainment or how everyone else is a terrible human being. Just a bunch of smug people patting themselves on the back.

Thank God BP didn't get a Visual Effects nomination. Even the Academy recognizes that it failed as a spectacle and is simply nominating it for it's identity politics.

Hopefully BP comes up empty and IW ends up being the first MCU flick to win an Oscar.

:lol

Truth.

Yep.... I even like BP more then I did originally... But man.. Best Picture. :lol

BP received so many nominations for one reason only. Denying that is being willfully ignorant. It was an entertaining film, but best picture? Yeah, OK.

Honestly who didn't see this coming? It's the world we live in now, where actual merit is second to whatever agenda. Just let it have it's extended moment, and move on.

I tuned out of the Oscars years ago due to all this, hopefully this will only accelerate their downward trend of ratings.

A-Dev hit the nail on the head with his 'soft bigotry of low expectations' remark though. Very eloquent.

All you guys are upset because the greatest superhero movie ever is black. You want to keep the black man down, in "yes massa...do we gets the corn bread now" roles like Falcon, serving his white master Captain whiteAmerica, no matter what, but no more. We taking over. BP is kang now. Deal with it.
