That's pretty over-the-top.:monkey4

If your whole collection was recasts that's one thing...but how are you hurting Sideshow by purchasing a recast of a long sold-out item? And if you felt truly bad about it you could've resold the thing...

But hey, at the end of the day, it was yours and no one else's...it just hurts to see $400 squandered like that.

Can someone please explain to me how recasts have a direct effect on the company or the artist? All of these recasts are on long sold out items. Meaning the company and the artist have all been commisioned accordingly. How does this effect that?

:rotfl I did it for me. I guess deep down I realized supporting this is wrong. I don't want to think of myself in that way. Besides...it's only money.

I am really not trying to stir the pot here, but you supported the practice by paying for the piece. The only real way you can take back your support would be to somehow get your money back from the seller. Smashing the piece really does not go one way or the other toward supporting knock-offs.

By my buying that piece, I was no longer in the market for a real one. That has a small but existent effect on the secondary market. That in turn has a small but existent effect on Sideshow exclusivity on pieces and the desire for them because of their limited nature. Now, my purchase wouldn't make a squats bit of difference on any of those numbers, but if 50 of us did that, it certainly would. I don't want to be a part however miniscule in anything that would damage the hobby. Hadn't thought of it that way when I purchased it, but it is the inevitable truth.

People are funny.

They will chastise you for "supporting" it.

Then chastise you for making a statement of "non support"

Damned if you do damned if you don't.

Some folks are so douchy sometimes.

Teacher says that every time a recast is made a puppy gets hit by a car!! Ironically, every time a recast is smashed...nothing happens....the puppy is still dead!!

:huh:huh:huh

the only people I see affected by this (recasting a long sold out statue) is the secondary market people. Those that are in for the $$$

No problem. I'm not looking for yours or anyone else's opinion as a source of redemption. I feel better about it and that's all that matters chum.

Was the auction advertised as recast or original?

If it was the latter, why didn't you just file a dispute with paypal?

I better burn my Nikes, by wearing them I must be "supporting" child labor

I work for a pharmacuetical company, and in this business there is essentialy a legalized version of recasting. After X number of years of a drug being on the market it "goes off patent". Meaning that scavanger companies can produce/sell the "generic" form of a drug cheaply (because they invested no development money/time into the drug). Now, these generic drug makers do no research, and add nothing to the table for the future. So, in the long run, generic drugs suck money from research companies, and as a result fewer new drugs for varying diseases are made and still people are THRILLED. So it has both a socially positive and negative effect simultaneously.

Recasting, on the other hand, really doesnt effect the bottom line of the company producing the original statue. You may be out of the market for an original statue, but Sideshow has already made thier money on the limited number of statues they decided to produce. They won't be selling any more of that piece in the future and the secondary market value has little to no effect on current sales. Case in point, the Hulk PF was going for over $900 bucks on secondary markets, but Sideshow sold The Thing at $325. Obviously because one doesnt have any bearing on the other. Now if sideshow decided to re-produce the IM statue, recasting may hurt them (though I am certain people would buy from Sideshow until the re-production run was sold out).

Edit: Though if your point was collectibility, you would have a point. By changing the number of people that can own that piece you change the collector value (both price and desirability). Though only the most hardcore/greedy of collectors would worry about what other people have.

The thing there is, SS has reissued it once. I wouldn't doubt they'll take another shot.

They may, and I am certain that they will sell out regardless of recast count.

Just to be clear though, I disagree with recasting as well! My issue isnt the fact that it hurts Sideshow, its that other people are making money off of what other people have done. In my opinion you dont deserve the reward unless you have done the work!

To be honest, I've always wanted to do that. I've never had a damaged piece arrive but I've seen videos of people busting the crap out of pieces for proof to SS. Always wanted to know what it felt like. I didn't feel much of anything. I think I should sell my firearms collection asap.:rotfl:rotfl:rotfl
