As much as I love the character and the fact that he is played by Samuel Mother ****in' L. Jackson, there is one actor who I think would have been vastly superior in the role:

Laurence Fishburne! I'm not even considering him because he was Morpheus; if you've seen him in Boyz N the Hood, you know he can play a great, and believable, wise father-figure.
Who else thinks the character would have been alot more believable and fleshed out, if Fishburne had landed the role?
:chew :chew :chew

IMHO, I dont think anyone could have played a good Mace. I hated the character and hated his diologue and stiff acting. This is in no way a slam on Sam Jackson, as he is one of my favorite actors, but the direction of his character was awful. Out of all the crap the PT gets, Mace is one character I hate more than any(execpt Jar Jar, he just pissed me off) other aspect of the trilogy. To have such a great actor like Sam Jackson come off so stiff and just plain bad, is the total fault of scripting and directing. I may very well be in the vast minority, but I hated the character!!! Still do.

I have no doubt that Fishburn would have sucked equally as bad!

Laurence Fishburne.........

hm, I never really liked his appearnce in the matrix, ever....
but I 've neevr seen the other movie you mentioned, so ...

Sam was awesome.

As much as I like Fishburne, he would have been too chunky for the role.

I'm with you, Dr.Mirakle32. Anyone who can't see Fishburn doing a better job of pulling off Mace's oddly constructed dialog should check him out in the movie Othello. After viewing that you'll think he could do anything. Well, excepting Snakes on a Plane. That one's all Sammy.

I think Sam was fine as Mace. I couldn't picture anyone else as him. Maybe Wesley Snipes?

Wesley would make a great Batman but I think Jackson did about as good as anybody could have done with Mace.

Sorry Bale Batman > Wesley Batman

Have you seen the straight to video **** Wesley has been in lately? I'm surprised he didnt do the TV show.

So I wasn't the only one who totally hated him in ROTS, a number of times I found myself voting against the Jedi (even Yoda  ). :emperor

*hangs head in shame*

Like I've said before, I wasn't a big Mace fan in the movies, but he was a figure I wanted Sideshow to make from the very begining. Don't know why.

My gripe against Mace as a character was he was just a dick to Anakin. I think he helped push him to the Dark Side by not trusting him. As far as the acting and dialouge it pretty much is stiff in all 6 so this is nothing that happens in just the PT.

I know this sounds like blasphemy, but I've never thought Sam Jackson was all that great an actor. He's found his niche and he does it very well, but outside of that particular character type, he seems out of place. Fishburne is an actor who can look and sound believable in any genre -- even Shakespeare.

Did Anakin really give Mace anything to trust?

Mace had hate inside him as well. The walked the light/dark path.

I totally agree with you there. In ROTS, Anakin actually comes to him and tells him Palpatine is a Sith Lord and Mace is like great, thanks Anakin, now go wait in the council chamber like a little b!tch while I go arrest Palpatine.

That is what I was referring to myself, precisely that moment. Add to that the bunk advice Yoda gives and the general indifference on Obi Wan's part and I am rooting for the Sith. I wonder if that was deliberate, was Lucas wanting us to root Anakin, perhaps he felt that would be a better way to tie-in to the OT?

Well, I don't know. Anakin is the Chosen One that should be enough but also Mace never really tried I thought.

Yeah, Mace very easily could have been a Sith I think. Maybe it was his on jealousy that wouldn't let him.

Yeah, like he has to take the glory himself. Anakin is supposed to be the greatest Jedi and has the trust of Papatine. I'd use him to my advantage when going to take down the Sith Lord.

Well, is the advice Yoda gives to him really that bad? I mean the Jedi aren't supposed to be feeling what Anakin is feeling. I don't think Obi-Wan feels indifferent because I do think Obi-Wan cares but Obi-Wan also feels that you should stick to a certain path. As far as to what Lucas wanted. Who the heck knows. :lol I think I'd go nuts trying to figure out what he wanted.

Yes, yes it is. Yoda expects Anakin to simply let his wife die?! Hmmm, would you buy in to the don't try to stop it just let her pass into the force mumbo-jumbo?

Perhaps Padme didn't mind this bit of advice, after all, she simply "lost the will to live;" newborns and all. :sick
