Females learned how to stand up to the creatures they were the brave ones they were smarter than any male scientist that’s for certain a deaf 15 year old female figured out their weakness.

The male gets killed while the INJURED wife you had JUST DELIVERED A BABY NO LESS killed the horrible monsters.

Men look so incompetent and weak.

Movie sucks.

Like I said in my PM.. I think I have just learned to accept the jump scare... Very few horror films not called "The Witch" don't use them. The film did not just rely on them so it gets bonus points from me.

The Witch, 10 Cloverfield Lane, The Shallows (yes technically a monster movie), Split, Get Out...none of those relied on jump scares. I don't watch too much straight horror as I find that they're often gratuitous in more ways than one. So I can't speak for Don't Breathe, Lights Out, It, etc.

I guess I have some additional forgiveness because I like the characters a lot.. I like the use of quiet and I liked the look / directing in the film.

I did find myself appreciating the cinematography and I also thought it had a solid score. What's funny is that after reading jye's initial review I was braced for some terrible CGI but actually found myself thinking that the monsters looked pretty cool, lol (even if they were a tad generic.)

When that creature stood up and started flinching from the shotgun blasts it looked really bad lol

casual Anti-Semitism?? Ouch... I missed that one.

It was more prevalent when Abrams was the target dujour and has thankfully dissipated since a couple of members have faded out. But it got referenced again earlier (not the same person as the id politics ref) and, as De La Soul put it, “my tolerance level has now peaked.”

I do appreciate the good thinks from you, Khev, Jye, and the other articulate members from all camps. I’ll probly be back. ;)

There was reference to a meteor hitting the planet (on one of Krasinksi's newspapers I believe) which I took to imply how the monsters arrived.

They're pretty tough if they can hitch a ride on a meteor, survive both the atmospheric entry and planetary collision. No wonder they were so pissed.

:lol 10 Cloverfield, The Shallows, and Get Out.. Three "thrillers" that I was less then thrilled with.. Maybe I do like Jump scares :lol

Actually I liked 10 Cloverfield until the end..

Don't Breath was garbage. Lights out was a better short youtube video (what the film was based on) only saw It once.. I think Jye said it sucked with a repeat viewing so I am afraid to watch it now. :lol

I look at films like Sinister, Occulas, and Hush (on Netflix about a def woman being stalked by a killer) as being pretty good horror films that relied on a jump scare or two.

Sinister is one of my top fav recent horror movies right up there with The Witch. But also had one of the worst and one of the best Jump scares in cinema.

Well I caught this tonight. Glad it was on $5 Tuesday because I thought it was just okay.

It basically felt like an episode of Stranger Things to me, the creatures looked like demogorgons and the deaf daughter looked almost exactly like Dustin, lol.

I found the abundance of false jump scares annoying, in fact the middle hour of the film was pretty much nothing but those. My showing had a pretty decent crowd though and the audience was really eating up the jump scares and even ended up applauding at the end so obviously people are liking it. It just didn't really strike a chord with me which is too bad because this really should have been my kind of movie. I loved Signs and was very impressed with Gareth Edwards' first flick "Monsters" which had a similar premise but that was told in a much more compelling and credible manner IMO.

I caught it last night too and completely agree with your sentiments, including thank god it was only $5.

It was a poor man’s version of Signs, but Signs had tension and atmosphere (my favorite thing in a movie when done right) you could cut with a knife. This relied on its one trick premise with deafening sound for every little thing that happened, and it had the classic horror movie misstep of filling the center portion of the film with people walking around and building to false jump scares.

I mean your other posts get into the rest of the logic holes I saw too so I’m not going to repeat all that.. but the monsters... :lol

Don’t know how this is sitting at 95% on RT.

Your listing of movies is pretty spot on to mine too, except I would put BP above this and tomb raider. I haven’t seen 12 strong. Death wish was fun.

You may want to put spoilers on the rest for people who haven’t seen it since it’s still a pretty fresh movie. Notice how other posters say ‘shower scene’ or ‘raiding grocery store’ without giving away how the whole movie plays out. Glad I saw it last night or I would have surely seen this.

After looking through the thread and not finding anything anti-Semitic I can only guess you’re referring to the ‘tribe’ comment by crows. I’m pretty sure he wasn’t referring to Jewish people and meant Hollywood favoritism at large, though I see how you could have taken it that way. But I can definitely tell you crows isn’t anti-semitic at all. Other than that I don’t know what you possibly could be referring to.

Signs was mostly excellent. The rooftop and birthday party scenes still give me the willies today. Shame it all falls apart with that ridiculous end "twist" and laughable swing way Merrill crap.

I mean if your weakness is water, try not to invade a planet where over 70% the surface is covered in it ffs. :lol

Not to mention human beings, the thing they were harvesting, were mostly water.

Any planet where death would literally "rain down from the sky", is a place I think I'd stay away from.

Signs ending is a head scratcher like really, water lol but what a great movie nonetheless.

Sinister great movie until the ghost kids show up then all downhill from there.

Never seen Get Out and never will.

Signs is a masterclass in building and maintaining tension. Honestly I love that movie, it’s my favorite M. Night film. I don’t even mind the ‘swing away’ bit. The only thing is the water - it would have been an easy fix to make it something else and replace the water ‘sign’ with something else too.

Nice to see folks appreciating it here as it was eviscerated upon release when the ‘what a twist’ hate was building up for the director. (Granted, some of his later movies deserved it :lol)

It was good to see him make something entertaining in Split again.

As for recent horror movies The Conjuring (first one) is my favorite. So creepy. Sinister was great up till the ghost kids as jye said.. and it retroactively ruined the rest of it.

Get Out is good if you don’t expect too much or buy into the hype.

I spoiler tagged it great idea.

Now Khev just has to do the same on his response to my post lol

Why the embargo on Get Out?

Because I ruined the movie by reading the spoilers on here lol
