I never knew they let any 2 bit hack on the committee. I always figured it was just past winners and the old, rich, white snobs.

The reason quality is completly subjective is exactly the reason why popularity really is the only true way to judge it.

And popularity states that TDK was by far the best film of 2008.

So, since Lady Gaga is the most popular 'musician' right now, her music is better than everyone else's?

I probably didn't watch the nominated movies that year (never saw Slumdog), but I reckon people with Ledger Joker in their avatar are gonna think Dark Knight deserved the Oscar, and people with Tron 2 in their avatar are gonna think it deserves it.

But in truth, the Oscars are semi-political. A guy will win because "he's due" (Scorsese, Coen Brothers, Spielberg, Jeff Bridges,), or because it's "time" for a "different kind of person" (like a woman, for instance, taking best director) to win a certain award. There's a hype machine involved, where people take ads out in big papers, and folks start declaring certain movies as Oscar material before anyone's ever seen it because a certain actor and director are teamed up with an "Oscar-type" story, etc. The "full retard" line is sadly true, as well, because it's like a mathematical formula that determines who wins, instead of being a merit-based award given to the best pictures and actors, etc. It's just a bunch of BS, and doesn't mean much to me.

Movies that make money aren't necessarily good, either. Transformers movies suck donkey nuts but rake in millions and millions and millions.

l think Oscars and Academy awards are kind of dumb or lame. not sure what word to use. most movies that come out for the most part are good. one movie getting a little statue doesn't make it better then the ones that didn't get a statue. and the ones that win most of the time arn't as good as other contenders, same for the actors. lots of it is political and ass kissing when it comes to those events.

I love how this has turned into a pissing match over which movie is better. Who cares...it's all subjective.

:lol I just thought it was funny who was asked to join the Acadamy!

Oh well.....this might be fun too.

So that's why Shakespeare In Love beat Saving Private Ryan, Crash beat Brokeback Mountain and The Hurt Locker beat Inglorious Basterds.

Mystery solved, my dear Watson.

Basil Rathborne FTW

And Slumdog was ugh aight but TDK blew my mind

uhh. No. The consensus of the best available popular movie rating website disagrees completely with that.

https://www.imdb.com/chart/top

TDK - #10

Slumdog - #131

Half a million odd votes don't lie.

The only thing that proves is that there are far more idiots on this Earth than you
recognize. Nice avatar by the way. I see zero bias in your posts. :lol

No matter your opinion, you can't deny that The Dark Knight should have received at least a nomination. Personally, The Dark Knight blows Avatar out of the water, yet that was nominated.
