GLAD ASTRA for 2/3s... then SAD ASTRA kicks in.

I'm seeing this in 3 hours.

I understand the real title should be DAD ASTRA.
Im trying tomorrow, and in an effort to keep this up, I'm hoping it will be RAD Astra.

And yes, I remember Cap One and Outlands, Outland was definitely a cure for insomnia.

Did anyone here see Capricorn One back in the day? Now that was a good little astro thriller

(even though they never went to space :lol)

Outland was boring as hell despite having Bond and Young Frankenstein in it.

I only recently rewatched Cap One and it holds up great. Except the OJ-knife moment.:lol Elliot Gould and Telly are so over the top 70s it's great. And Brenda Vaccaro is still the best 70s hottie mom and was never better than in this movie.

Still love the moment when the astronaut signals his wife about their family vacation so she knows what he's saying is a lie. Even as a kid I loved that.

What's weird is it's a bit like the movie stars Josh Brolin because of his dad looking so much like him (or vice versa.)

The desert stuff is brilliant. Even rabid OJ.:lol

Elliot Gould looked like that Epstein guy that was recently murdered...err killed himself lol

With more hair and less royal connections.:lol

You could tell that even by 1978 Gould was starting to slum it with that supporting role in Cap One - stars like Ryan O'Neal and Elliot Gould belonged to the early seventies and times had changed.

He wasn't on TV as much but I wonder if he ended up on Battle of the Network Stars. Telly Savalas did - along with Gabe Kaplan from Welcome Back Kotter. As did... AD ASNER!:yess:

Sadly, I have to concur about Ad Astra. Slow... some interesting future bits... but overall a snore... with a silly and heavy-handed ending.

Lots of shots in the trailer that didn't make it into the movie. It's that kind of film.

I want to watch Capricorn One again. But I don't have it and it never plays on tv.

Peculiar thing, I just noticed there are 2 versions of Capricorn One, one rated R and another rated PG.

How about the moon chase it was so freaking irrelevant to the movie.

Moon pirates was dropped from the narrative faster than you can say Branjelina lol

Outland was just High Noon in space but not very exciting. Capricorn One I need to see again. I like Hector From Saturn 3 and Farrah Fawcetts Boobies.

Weird. I don't remember Cap 1 being rated R. What the heck could be in it that would generate that rating? It's a very safe and solid PG-13 thriller.

Yeah, that whole sequence -- which I wish there was more of in the entire movie -- was clearly left hanging from stuff they must have cut. There are shots in the trailer showing cops beating people, and holograms, and other stuff. I imagine this movie was Gray's epic and likely went on for 2.5 hours but its glacial pace was even too much for the producers who likely cut it down to 2 hours in hopes it would play faster -- can you imagine how slow it must have been originally? So we lost a lot of explanation of the "war" and the other social issues that might have made the 'moon pirates' and territorial disputes more clear.

If this movie had more espionage in it, and the world was suffering more and in conflict because of the "surges" then perhaps it might have been more interesting. The movie suffered greatly because its too much like its detached and stoic hero.

Grace said Ad Astra is one of her favorite movies of all time :rotfl

Man so far Disney took on nothing but stinkers from Fox.

That was always Fox's problem... too many stinkers. Fortunately, from time to time, it made a Star Wars or Titanic between things like Alien Nation, etc...

Ad Astra, the movie about human beings yearning to explore and find the answer, is there life out there?

The movie's answer, don't bother looking. Just stay home and cuddle with your wife.

It truly has to be the lamest anticlimactic resolution to a space thriller ever made lol

It's a space adventure movie that's anti space and anti adventure

Though I have to admit the last thing I expected to see in this movie were killer baboons

lol

I actually enjoyed the middle part of the movie.

Real shame that ending but Neptune looked scary lol

:rotfl

Wizard of Oz kind of has the same type of message -- but how could anyone think "there's no place like home" after visiting Oz?

Kansas no less lol

It was enjoyable enough, for the most part, but that ending just killed the movie.
