I'll believe in victory when I have a piece in hand with no doll dot.

And I too would like to see a little more variation in Sideshow's skin Tones. Gandalf (to me) looked great with the touches of red. I'm down with the cast-in-color as a base... but a little more work needs to be added so they don't end up looking so flat.
I'd like to know how Gandalf's skin was done, of all the human portraits done since the Pro came around, his is the only to mix varied tones in the skin like traditional painted heads and the soft, matte finish of cast skin.
He was also the final straw that sealed the LOTR line's 1:6 fate. I'm wondering if it was just too expensive to produce a final product like that while still keeping it in their established price range.
I'd have a hard time thinking an extra paint application would be the final straw for a line of figures. Honestly, compared to Luke to the paint work on Luke I think Gandalf (if the redness was paint, not part of the casting) would have less actual work done to it.
I think it would be the costuming, which is true, the LOTR costumes are quite elaborate, or at least on the mains that would have the best hope of selling. I was blow away by how Boromir had turned out.
I'd say Palpatine's been the most intricate costume done in Star Wars so far, and even that's not LOTR complex.
On thing I love about these Imperials is the quality and look to the uniforms, they look legit and really sell the figure as an officer.
I dunno. Down to the differently painted tusks, I think Vader was LOTR quality. Additionally, the detail in the Stormtroopers was also impressive (whether or not there weren't exactly 14 teeth ).
"Admiral, do chickens have large talons?"
Got SSC Admiral Piett (no futzing yet, only next week):
Some of my SS Imperials displayed (still missing Stormtrooper Commander and Exclusive Stormtrooper from the photo):
