I read online that the last episodes hit a series low and is losing viewers at an alarming pace.

I'm gotten a lot of mixed reviews on this show. I'm a huge Whedon fan. And a huge Marvel fan.
I got 10 minutes into the first episode when this first episode. Decided to restart it again a day later and only got 10 minutes in again.
Has this show picked up steam? Did I bail too early? I just couldn't get into it. I want to like it, darn it!

Signs are mixed but heading south for me, Chap. I know you're one of the biggest Joss Whedon fans here. It might tell you something that Joss co-wrote and directed that first episode you're struggling to get through, and has no writing/directing credits for any of the 10 episodes since.
I think of it as Whedon-lite and Marvel Jr. Too young for me. I'm passing.

Show started out terrible, IMO. I stuck with it and it has improved. The latest episode (ep 10) finally showed some signs of tying into past episodes for an over-arcing story line. We will see if it pans out though. Love Whedon's work too, but so far this hasn't been vintage Whedon - mainly because it is his brother, Jed and Jed's wife who are handling the bulk of the writing. They headed up Dollhouse, which suffered from the same formulaic "baddie of the week" scripting, until S2.
Like I said, I see signs of improvement, but I cannot actually recommend this show to anyone who hasn't seen it yet.

I liked the episode. I was half-watching it as I strung the lights on our Christmas tree.
I like the Centipede storyline with the super soldiers because it give the agents something to actually do, and a genuine adversary. Although I think the centipede tech with the amber jewelry is a bit hokey. I liked seeing Gunn back and becoming a better character. Definitely liked him better here than in the pilot episode. I'm sure he's not dead. And at this point I'm ho-hum about Colson's secret. Eh.
Getting better, and I'm still liking the characters. I think the actress playing Skye is doing really well. She really "gets" the kind of Whedon humor in the dialogue and nails the jokes.

Atheris is a funny duck.
As for the series, yes I slowly see it improving. But so much more needs to happen to keep it alive.. I believe Joss has left the building, because it's missing something.

Last episode was better, if only because the main villain has a better handle on what the viewers want to know... what the hell is up with Coulson? After we finally discover that, I'm totally up for dumping this ragtag gaggle of flat "agents" surrounding him. Let Skye and May walk the plank first.

Well, looks like shield has the green light for season 2 in 2014. But judging from this teaser clip, looks like it will be more of the same old. Hopefully sky's character gets kicked off the show along with the ken Barbie doll and two infant children. If they can bring in a mature cast and actually make the show feel like a top secret government agency and not a daycare, then it could be turned around. But, if the original cast stays this show is dead after season two...FOR SURE.

i just cant like this show. i feel something this big (coulson)should be addressed in a movie. this show just keeps making this marvel universe feel very cheap.

Yeah, having now become an Arrow addict...its amazing Marvel would put something this mediocre out.

I stopped watching SHIELD about 3 - 4 episodes ago, I wasn't feeling it. I tuned in tonight because of the Coulson storyline.
I am not certain what tonight episode answered, I felt more questions arose then was answered around his death.

I had missed the last couple of episodes so I didn't watch tonight. One of these days I might get caught up. Though I like the show, I don't care so much if I miss it.
