Re: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series!

So, Paxton coming in to help clean up the season, special guests starting with Stan Lee. I've read on a couple fansites that they will be "retooling" for the season 2 due to the poor writing this season. I wonder if they mean the creative team, the cast lineup, or just using what they already have and just trying to make a better show with it. I really hope Paxton decides/is offered season 2. I think they need some strong personality in this group.

Definitely ditch the writers and the bland Dirk Squarejaw soldier guy. They should also turn May into a villain, she'd make one hell of a baddie.

Re: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series!

Yeah it's only four episodes though. I wish they'd add him as the "Nick Fury" of the team as part of the regular cast. They also desperately need a good villain on the show, Centipede is nice but needs a strong villain or two to represent it on screen. The off screen Clairvoyant isn't helping it much.

Did anyone else think we were seeing the Proto Ultron working on Coulson in "the Magical Place"? I'd like to think it was. Scene was creepy as hell but didn't answer much of anything. He still could be an artificial person.

I thought that was odd, too. Almost like they were either doing a brain transplant or infusing a brain with Coulson's soul or something. Definitely weird. :lol

Lady Sif will be making an appearance soon and it sounds like season two is a lock.

https://insidetv.ew.com/2014/01/17/sif-lady-agents-of-shield/
Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD is doing another crossover with a big-screen Marvel property: Thor heroine Lady Sif is coming to the 15th episode of the season, ABC president Paul Lee told reporters at the TCA press tour Friday.

Jaimie Alexander, who played the Asgardian goddess in both Thor films, is shooting her appearance on the show. Unlike the tacked-on throw-away addition of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury last fall, Lee assured that Lady Sif’s role is “integral” to the episode.

Lee also teased that fans will find out who the Clairvoyant is this year, and that producers have a “very cool” plan for the back half of the season. Though the show’s initial ratings plummet was worrisome, the executive said he’s feeling “very good” about the show creatively.

So SHIELD, which returns Feb. 4, is one new ABC drama this season that’s sure to return next fall. Lee noted that the network’s latest struggling drama effort Killer Women will end its run early and will be replaced by newcomer Mind Games, about two men (Christian Slater and Steve Zahn) who can tailor a plan to influence any life-altering situation.

Re: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series!

Rumors have been swirling that a new Marvel TV series called Agent Carter is in the works. It would springboard off the wonderful Marvel One Shot on the Iron Man Three Blu, and would feature Peggy Carter's adventures during the earliest days of SHIELD. Those rumors have been unsubstantiated, but today could be the day - ABC is giving their presentation at the TCA press tour, a grueling event where TV press sit in a hotel lobby for literally weeks and do panel interviews.

According to Deadline the show is real and it has executive producers - Tara Butters and Michele Fazakas, co-creators of the show Reapers that I never watched and thus can have no opinion on. We should know in a few hours.

Pro: this is a great idea for a show (although it could be called Peggy Carter, Agent of SHIELD)! Early stories have the tremendous Hayley Atwell signed on, and Dominic Cooper has said he would love to keep playing Howard Stark on the show.

Con: this is again on ABC. There are a lot of reasons why Agents of SHIELD has turned out to be a turd, but the demands of network television is certainly one of them. The bigwigs at Marvel Studios aren't particularly pleased with Agents of SHIELD - will they be happier with Agent Carter?

Speculation: Agents of SHIELD ends with this season. I believe there will be no more SHIELD after the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and so the show will be redundant, and the ratings suck. It will be moved off the schedule and Agent Carter will replace it. Anyone taking bets?

I'm at Sundance, so I won't be following the TCAs closely. Feel free to update in the comments.

Re: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series!

More:

Right now, tons of poor entertainment reporters are listening TV people talk about TV stuff at the TCA thing, whatever it is. Some of this stuff has to do with Marvel. Devin just posted a story about the very exciting Peggy Carter show. Here I am to post a story about the very unexciting Agents of SHIELD.

According to everyone I follow in Twitter, Jaimie Alexander will appear as Lady Sif in an upcoming episode of Agents of SHIELD, episode 15, if what I hear is accurate. They are apparently filming it right now. Go look out your window! Maybe you'll see them!

Again, I'm just going off various tweets, but the general feeling I get from today's Agents of SHIELD tidbits is one of desperation. The identity of The Clairvoyant will supposedly get revealed before the season ends. I really have no idea what that is.

I like Devin's idea most. Agents of SHIELD as we know will end this season and give way to the hopefully better Peggy Carter show. I don't know how likely it is, but at least we'd have something to look forward to. I don't think an episode with Sif is really going to do much for anyone at this point.

Re: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series!

I'm probably in the minority but for some reason I like the show.....lol it may be because I like the corny stuff. Gosh I still love Batman with Adam West! Plus, I like Sky's character especially after the newest episode. It has made her character more interesting in my opinion. If they do end the series though, I would like all questions answered before they end it!

Do you guys also think the show is not as popular because most of the characters are more "side" characters than main characters? Like if Nick Fury was present on the show (more than the 1 episode he was in) do you guys think the show would do better, since he is a main character? Just curious.

I guess Peggy Carter could be interesting but I'm not sure if that would do any better. But I think it would depend on what characters they actual decide to bring in for the show.

No, it lost popularity because of poor story, subpar acting, and the show having no true target audience; its hard to tell if they were after Whedon fans, Fringe style fans, or Marvel comics fans from the start, but the one thing they did was made the majority of each of those camps stop watching. They had what most "new" shows don't benefit from, a HUGE built in fanbase and decided to coast and piss their head start away.

Marvel TV needs to embrace their characters as strongly as the movie verse has, especially since they are going out of their way to interweave them. People are going to expect them to be an extension of one another. Its like reports of them trying to develop a Punisher show and him being a private detective? Really? :lol

Person of Interest's success shows that Punisher could easily be shown on cable and be a hit, but marvel TV is afraid of success apparently.

I enjoy the show as well. I didn't expect it to be anything more than what we're already getting.

Re: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series!

The shw feel cheap and the team has no charisma.
I keep giving it a chance but the last one with the shield campus, i could not finish it.
I cant even say its bad, just non interesting.

For me the problem is all the characters are uninteresting new creations.
If they just tried to make the show more comic booky by adapting already existing Shield characters and put them in Shield uniforms with futuristic Shield weapons, give them more espionage and take the kid gloves off, then give them a strong rival origination like AIM or Hydra, and strong villains like Baron von Strucker or Taskmaster or Madame Hydra to face off against then I believe the show would be a hit.
They introduced Graviton but didn't do anything with him, Maria Hill and Nick Fury simply made brief appearances and did nothing, they don't use the flying car at all. That's really the only stuff from the comics in the show.
It's like they're saving all the good stuff for the films and the TV show can go F--- itself.

I wish this was more an adaptation of the comic which is Marvel's superhero version of James Bond.

Re: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series!

I enjoy it! It needs more drive and I think shaking up the characters more would be a good thing. I don't find it BAD, just less good than I'd hoped.

Re: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series!

The show is moving way too slow trying to flesh out characters. They need action, a villain and they need to exist in a larger set interacting with established characters. I understand Marvel probably is being careful who it uses in tv and who in film but there is far more bench that starters in the MU.
I agree with screaming metal they need a set villain and I'm hoping the clairvoyant is actually a real character.

Re: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series!

The problem with the series is essentially this: it goes against how SHIELD was portrayed in the movies (and comics). The core of the "team" consists of plucky 20 somethings that don't carry themselves as particularly cut out for the cloak and dagger stuff (Skye and Scientists). When they try to go for badass they end up with wooden and stiff characters (May and Ward).

Coulson's friendly touch used to be a welcome contrast to the sea of organized human machinery. Now he's been regulated to a fatherly role where he lets his children walk all over him in order to further each painful plot. Coulson's too cool to get that upset when his kids mess up, but the sheer lack of good judgement in forming this embarrassing team to begin with, drops him down a few notches in the competence category.

Get to his ultimate secret already. I couldn't care less about Skye's level 4 mutant power.
