The Ansin Frankenstein is cool for what it is, but doesn't really fit in with the rest of his work. I much prefer the Durieux piece. Is there a print for the Asian-looking piece of the Monster under the tree, overlooking the lake?

That's by JC Richard, it's an original. No copies/prints that I know of.

Thanks. I was surprised how tiny it was in person.

I just got home. This was truly an awesome day to be a Universal fan! I picked up the Durieux DRACULA, FRANKENSTEIN, WOLF MAN and CREATURE, and the Craig Drake BRIDE. Passing on Durieux MUMMY was heartbreaking, but I have the Ansin variant and tried to get posters I didn't already have.

I also managed to see MUMMY and CREATURE at the Drafthouse. THE MUMMY looked incredibly pristine and crisp. I'm sure this is the best it's ever looked, probably better that the original 35mm prints. CREATURE is by FAR the best 3D film I've ever seen. It's genuine 3D that pops and really gives you your money's worth. Having to watch it in 2D from now on will be so boring (I don't have a 3D TV!)

Yes, I'm still hurting from the cost, but I don't regret a thing. My only disappointment is the lack of a PHANTOM print. I now have Mondos of 7 of the 8 main monsters (plus THE MOLE PEOPLE, for some reason,) but not my favorite one! One of the guys mentioned possible rights issues since the Chaney film is in public domain (that didn't stop the Ansin print, but I don't think that was officially part of the Universal series.) If that's the case, I'd be just as happy with a Claude Rains print!

Some pics a buddy and I took at the show. We didn't snap many since there were a lot of people and we didn't have a lot of time, but it should give you a general idea. And if you've never visited the Mondo Gallery, it is tiny. I'm amazed they were able to hold that many people during the opening.

I don't think so. We just visited today, and it sounded like those guys went yesterday.

It's crazy to think people were literally camping out over this. As great as it was, I can't imagine flying out and spending the night and a day to see this first. OK, so meeting Struzan, Rodriguez and Darabont would be fantastic, but I'm pretty sure most of the people who waited that long didn't even get the opportunity.

When I arrived today, there was a healthy number of people, but nothing too crazy and stacks of prints behind the counter five inches thick. I'm much happier I went today and got to enjoy it to the fullest. The only downside was that I missed out on the cutesy Mike Mitchell set, but it just saved me money for posters I really wanted.

We picked up a bunch of prints. By the time we went in, I was too tired to think so it was nice to leave. Then we were up at 7am and on the road by 8 today to head to Dallas (3 hour drive) for the fan days. I should really be in bed right now.

Ben, so awesome talking to you! Tony is a stand up guy.

Notably we got both Creatures (the variant is drool), Frankenstein, Tong's Bride, Invisible Man, etc, etc.

Anyone got an extra Treebeard print they're willing to sell? I'll take either the variant or regular.

Just name your price! He's my favorite LotR character, so I got to have it.

It was great talking to you too. Tony said you were super awesome to him and he would have been really bored waiting in that line for so long if he didn't have you to talk to.

He had a great time. He met Robert Rodriguez, Frank Darabont, and Drew Struzan, so he was super geeked out. Since there were variants of the Taylor Creature and Ansin Frankenstein, he was able to pick up the regular versions for me. Maybe I can go next time. It sounds like a lot of fun.

Just woke up after sleeping for about 13 straight hours. I went to the USC vs Colorado football game when I got back to LA, hence the delay in posting. Thank God it was overcast here yesterday. Don't think another round of getting baked by the sun would have helped me.

Had an insane time in Austin. Buffy is an amazing hostess!!! Seriously, one of the nicest people these boards could ever have (but we already knew that).

I got to Austin at 1:00 a.m. and due to a zany twist (won't bore you with details) ended up heading to the line. I signed in at #30 on the list. I slept out overnight but luckily some line pals gave me a folding chair and blanket. I almost froze my jiggies off. Never happier to see the sun rise.

The line the next day was a blast but the sun was blazing. Buffy showed up very early and even brought me breakfast and water! Like I said, she's a sweetheart!!! All of us line urchins had a great time getting to know each other. Lots of people I knew from the EB boards, and friendships were made and faces were put with avatars. Bannister was there and having a good time too. Very cool to catch back up with him after all these years!

The group did a BBQ order for lunch which was terrific. A place called Franklins. At one point the nearby deli even called the cops on everyone in line. Cops just showed up and more or less laughed and left.

The show itself was insanely cool. Getting to see all the Struzan originals together... so many great prints. It was just terrific. I bought 8 prints... which packed the two tubes I had with me and was basically all I could carry back to LA.

I got the Ansins, Taylors, Francavilla "Invisible Man", Durieux "Frankenstein", Tong "Bride" and Drake "Bride". My only quibble with the show was that all the pieces were from the main classics. I would have loved a little art direction that led a few folks to "Son of Frankenstein", "Dracula's Daughter" or "Frankenstein vs Wolfman" etc. But not to be.

After the show, a few of us Freaks went out and grabbed some Mexican food (we missed ya Lonnie!) then back to Buffy's place to crash for a few hours before a 4:00 a.m. wake up for the airport.

Buffy's PF collection is beyond amazing. It was staggering beautiful! I mean jaw dropping. Wow... wow... Wow! Puts my crap to shame!!

Hey Boba Ben... fun talking to ya on the phone in line. I'm sure I said something to you crazy (I can't remember what), but please pardon me... it was the sleep deprivation talking. Your pal Tony from Chicago is an A+++ guy in my book.

They were available for purchase, just not prints.

Here's some photos of my previous and this Mondo gallery experience.
