I love A:R, 3 is OK, my least fav. but that's not saying anything. I still love it, I just wish I could swing the monet for this, it'd be fantastic. But no chance.

Poor ALIEN 3....

OK, I am not NEARLY as down on AR as Dave, but I can appreciate his fervor for A3. I hated it when I first saw it, as I, like half of humanity it seems, was so stoked by ALIENS, that to be suddenly shocked into the film that was A3, seemed, at that time, an insult. I think that is how most people still see it.
But...
Like Dave, I grew up.
For one thing, there is this one small hint at what could have been, in ALIENS, at the end....at the very end, of the end credits...
I always liked how after all the stuff was done, even those final ASCAP screen actors guild logos, the works, and the music fades...you can hear the scuttling of a facehugger... in ALIENS. So, why do that? I mean, our heroes in deep cryo-sleep...all is well....Hicks and Newt live....and the sound of a facehugger....Cameron did that.
It is interesting in that it does indeed lead directly into the hell that became Alien 3. As it pretty much is.

I realize now that the movies are about Ripley as much as the Aliens, even though an Alien film could have been made without her of course, but with her character, at least through A3, there is a bleak and somber message.
And it has a LOT to do with Special Order 937 from the first film.

THAT DAMNED COMPANY!!!

So, really, what would another ALIENS clone movie have been anyway? A lot of yadda yadda yadda. And NOT what the franchise really is about. Not to me anyway.
So, there.

I like A3 and feel the art is amazing, and it has every bit as interesting a cast and oneliners and funny stuff and all, as ALiens does. Just not "Marines". That's all. But I'll keep it. It makes me laugh. And it does make for one serious movie.
Love it or hate it, it is not a movie you can ignore. Not entirely. It's more like Carpenter's THE THING, than any of the other Alien movies, and it seems, everyone is ok with that bleak story....

Food for thought. :D

Now, how to get up $$$$$ for this Maq???

Oh, no real comments on AR. Or ALIENS AFTERTHOUGHT....
I actually enjoy it myself. But it seems as removed from the series as is AVP. So, no harm done to me.
Hey, it has ALIENS in it!!!!

Absolutely Les.
With Hicks and Newt alive and well, where else could you go but into Aliens 2?
And it would be very difficult to keep an interesting story with a crippled Hicks and an enervating Newt screaming around. Unless it became a movie about the three of them stuck in a spaceship with an alien on the loose. But then you have Alien 2.
So I think it was a wise decision to kill them off.

thats pretty much my opinion on AR as well.
While it didnt really fit with the series, I enjoyed watching it.

Havent seen A3 in so long I barely even remember it. Need to give it anothr spin.
Even Fincher mentioned in an interview awhile back that he hates the movie. But I dont let other's opinions sway my own... or i try not to.

Plus I completely seperate the Art Direction of a movie from the movie itself. Just cause a movie sucks wont stop me from buying collectibles of bad-ass characters only cause the movie sucked... and that A3 Maquette is indeed bad-ass

Hmm...

I'm not totally thrilled with the paint job on the teeth.

But I don't order scary monsters anyway, so my opinion doesn't mean much!

To be honest... I'm just not feeling this one! It is not how I remember an ALIEN looking, and I would rather wait for the real thing from Stan Winston Studios! Besides, the Flexpay payments end right at SDCC, so money would be an issue anyway... :rotfl

After reading the blog and seeing that it was sculpted and designed by the same people who worked on the film and who are ex-SWS employees i decided it was too good to pass up. :D

All very well put Les, and that statement is exactly why I think people hate all the other Alien films after Aliens, People wanted to see more of the Marines and they never got it. It's surprising that none have decided to add Colonial Marines or something similar into an Alien or AVP film, since they went so action movie fluff afterwards. And the truth is I wouldn't mind seeing a few movies like that myself, I'd even like to see a Sci-Fi film with the same Colonial Marines that doesn't have the classic Alien in it.

About killing off Newt and Hicks; I liked Hicks and Newt and I wouldn't have minded if they kept them alive in a sequel or two. However when I saw Alien 3 in the theater, the first thing I see is that little girl who may have been a bit annoying at times but you still cared for her, Newt get offed so quick and brutally sent a chill down my spine. I thought it was a brilliant move to just slap the audience who were sitting there expecting an action film just like the last sequel with the death of a child. Nothing is more horrific then that and it quickly set the mood for the rest of the movie taking it back to it's roots, horror. Not all of it was successful but for the most part I thought it was good.

Brilliant move indeed. Alien 3 makes an unexpected left turn and the heroes are killed and Ripley's luck finally runs out and fate catches up to her. Alien 3 is the PERFECT conclusion to one of the greatest trilogies of motion pictures ever filmed. Alien 4 should have began with entirely NEW characters in different situations. They could have done the Earth War that was originally promised by Alien 3's theatrical teaser trailer with the tag-line "On Earth, EVERYONE can hear you scream" which was part of the reason why so many people were let down when they saw it. Unfortunately, at the time, CGI was still in its infancy so the idea of doing a full-scale Alien invasion (heh heh) would have been monetarily impractical for them to conceive without the Cameron low-budget trickery of fooling the audience into believing there are more Aliens onscreen than there really are. I think he had 6 full-sized Aliens that were shot in different angles and through careful editing made it look like swarms were coming out of the walls. Today, this would be very easy to make as we have seen a taste of it in AVP.

i'm going to stir up a hornets nest maybe but people with the alien cinemaquette might be upset seing a better alien being made and there crown slipping from underneath them..as i think a3 maquette does, easily the best alien collectable ever made..bravo ad and ss

how about someone post a side-by-side comparison?

Newt and Hicks are alive and well, just not in that "imagined" scene, that's the way I look at it anyway. :D

Alien and Aliens are the only Alien films that count with me, the rest you can put in their own boxed set... but that's just me. :D :lol

The official pics look really nice!

I may have to get this one now!
