BTW, the alien and chopper are up for preorder at Fireside, 110 each. Seems to be the best price out there.

Listen up, ladies...

The Marines have landed!!!

All 3 look awesome. I've only just opened them, so I really haven't studied them yet, but the gear is outstanding -- just as the Predator was.

Here's a quick picture of all the parts to the box for Apone...

Sorry for the super-sized pictures. I thought photobucket resized them for me. Anyway, each Marine comes with slip cover, box with front cover flap and display front, 4 internal trays and all the gear, belts, clips, etc, you could want.

Interesting note: the buckle clips actually work like real buckles -- you know, the kind where you pinch the sides and slide the clip out, well it really works -- although its tough to pinch at this scale...but totally friggin' awesome.

And of course, here's the promised comparison of the HT APONE head vs. the FL APONE head as painted by Customikey...

As you can see, the upgrade adds a lot. Now the head is on equal par with the detail of the gear and armor. The FL head is ever so slightly smaller, but with helmet on I see no noticeable difference.

Just for interest, the Vasquez head is really quite impressive. With a proper repaint, it would be perfect. Too bad the bandana doesn't come off, but then at this scale it probably would be too bulky to look right. Also, she has a rubberized torso -- soft and squishy with some kind of "bendy" spine -- that looks great, feels great, but I fear might not last the next 10 years.

That's it for now.

Hudson -- get over here!

:D

Thanks Wor-Gar! So relieved about Vasquez (Jenette was so great in that role)

"All right sweethearts..." (you know the rest)

Amazing paint and sculpt that really put that "stock" head to shame... was it that hard to get the rights for the likeness. The HT head is just laughable... but the Frontline sculpt and Mikey's skills will really make that figure shine!!!

After conferring with several friends who have the marines, I have learned that its best to put the head on last as the directions say. Vasquez is the exception as she has a different neck post.

The weird thing is, that HT Apone head almost looks like a dead ringer for "Frost".... Maybe they got the heads mixed up in production...? Apone didn't even have a goatie....

Yeah, I was wondering about that myself.

I was going to make the exact same post when these shots where first posted! :lol

It would be funny if HT make a Frost and it looks like Apone! :lol

Yeah, I was actually thinking of using the Apone HT head to make a custom Frost.

Your paintwork looks great Mikey, really top notch...but I'm not crazy about the sculpt itself. It looks like Hicks, but a little exaggerated in places, maybe the angles are too sharp.

How does the sculpt look in person?

I'm actually not too unpleased with the way the HT Hicks head looks. It could use a solid repaint but it doesn't look too bad really. I'm a bit torn with which head I should settle on.

Yeah I agree Wor-Gar. The paint's too generic but the sculpt's not bad, looks like Michael Biehn to me. But without the crazy look in his eyes it's just not 100% Biehn. I'm keeping mine.

Maybe just a simple wash with very watered-down red/brown acrylic would do the face some good. Give the skin some texture to it. And a little gloss on the eyes to make them wet looking. Its easy to do and can improve the look a lot. Its no substitute for a real repaint, but in this case it may suffice.

Nice work Mikey. I have a question and a problem with the FL Apone head (not your amazing paint work)

My FL head has a closed neck, it is solid resin and won't sit on the ball joint and I am pretty steamed about it. I don't know what I should do, drill it, dremmel it, etc.

Any advice?

Thanks for posting the pics Mikey! I can't wait until these arrive in the mail! I currently have the Hicks head just resting on the post, waiting for this improvement to arrive! Apone should be showing up soon too! This is such a vast improvement, if Sideshow and Hot Toys release the second (hypothetical) series of marines, you will be a busy man!

Yo Peeps,
