Well in terms off copying that, yes.

But more how they darken areas to help hide and lighten to draw you eye / distract.
Then being able to blend from what you apply to what is already there.

For whatever reason, I'm personally leaning toward the white look.

I like that, but you have to make sure you blend it exactly the right shade (your second pic you have made much better) and how exactly will you lighten it practically?

Not sure how to lighten it. Only way I'd probably get a white look would be to prime it, then paint it white, then layer faint greys to weather it. Then add streaks and imperfections to simulate streaking. I'd for sure botch that. For me, I'll likely go with pic #2 in my first post. Find a way to stain them. Darken the yellow, maybe add a green/blue tint, then darken it closer to where it attaches.

Just a thought, I'm not sure if these are molded in the horrible yellow plastic, or painted that colour? I suspected they are molded that colour but It might be an idea to put some stripper on one and see if it makes it transparent to begin with, would be easier to paint from there. I like the last picture you posted above with the whitish tone. If it did go clear you could just add some light tones to the rear.

That would be ideal, but I bet the yellow it all the way through it.

I'm kinda being bothered now by my repaint, it's bugging me. Considering how much it cost and all the reference pics I sent to the painter, I didn't really get what I wanted. By the time I received the WIP pics I posted here I gathered it was too late to change it after the amount of work already done to it. This is the paint scheme I was going after: (Credit goes to toothboy on the rpf forums Finished Alien Warrior (Swampdonkey)--PIC HEAVY)

Do you think I should be really that bothered by it? I know the repaint is still a lot more accurate than the original blue etc but grrrr :gah:

Ask the panter. If you are not happy they should fix it. Could use some more black like your pics, always looked too "desert" to me, but it did have a quality look.

Unfortunately I don't think having it redone to that degree without it costing a bomb is an option, I already had to pay £60 extra to get the gums and inner mouth repainted again. The gums were originally a deep dark red and the inner mouth far too bright white. On the plus side though, the quality of the work, as you say, is top notch. It does look so much better in person than any picture can show. Just irritated that it's more of a dog alien colour than a black and brown warrior.

Like you say, the quality looks fantastic, but it's definitely not very accurate to that 1:1 you posted above.

I'd guess it's too late to have anything done about it, unless you buy another full repaint.

You should not have to pay more to have it fixed. It does not match the pics you gave. If they are a reputable business they should fix it for you. Honestly I would have never paid them till it was right, but sounds like you are past that point unfortunately.

I'd be willing to take it off your hands if you want to try again? :<

I'm not sure you would want to pay how much it all cost me :lol

At the time the painter was saying the reference pics were washed out with flash etc etc. They were the usual prop pics I'm sure you've all seen. I'm sure the flash did effect the colours of the props but you can still see they're black with light brown highlights. :dunno

Almost looks like the inverted the color scheme.

Expensive lesson, but a lesson none-the-less.

Least it still looks better than the original.

This give me ideas about how to rework my tendons! :lol

Side note, if I were to get mine repainted, I'd def use this pic as a basis. However, since my childhood memory is subjective as heck, I would change the brown tons to a very, very washed out olive drab. Not sure why, be it the lighting or one memorable shot, but that's how I thought they were colored when I was a kid.
