:duff to that...

I still think HB2 is going to do number larger than expected.
Alot of people discovered HB on DVD and missed HB at the theater.
HB2 number will crush the original's box office numbers..... :monkey1

I agree. It's got a really great cult following now.

In fact, if I remember correctly, HB was only out for about 4-5 weeks in my area. There were just too many summer movies that year and I think the movie got cut from first run theaters really quick so I'm sure that had a lot to do with HB1's box office numbers.

It would be great if Hellboy pulled a "Terminator"... with the second installment totally crushing the predessor's figures. :D

I'm not quite sure that you are remembering correctly. "Hellboy" opened wide on April 2, 2004... with it's ONLY competition that weekend being The Rock in the remake of "Walking Tall" and Disney's last hand drawn feature film "Home on the Range". It captured the #1 spot it's opening weekend (unseating "Scoody Doo 2" :D) with a $23 million haul. And by the time the summer movie season had hit (with "Shrek 2", "Spiderman 2" and "Harry Potter 3" being among them), I believe "Hellboy" made most of the money it was going to make domestically already and was nearly on his way to DVD.

According to the IMDb, "Hellboy" grossed nearly $60 million domestically and $40 million internationally. So, almost $100 million is not that bad a take considering the film's budget. And when you add the two DVD releases and the Blu-Ray release, Universal is looking at quite a tidy sum for there efforts. :D

I sure wished "Serenity" had those numbers. :monkey5 :monkey5 :monkey5

My point was that it had a very short run at first run theatres. It did well but if it had stayed around for a month or so more, the number could have been much better.

I know it was released in April but by May it was completely gone. The summer blockbusters pushed it out. I remember SM 2 AND Potter had 8 screens at my local theatre which only has a total of 12 screens.

I'm sorry you misunderstood my post, Bonehead. I just know that from my own personal experience first hand, that perception can differ greatly from reality. I always find myself going off under false assumptions. Again I'm sorry if you took offense to me questioning your memory. :(

First you stated "In fact, if I remember correctly, HB was only out for about 4-5 weeks in my area." That is true, if you look at the box office grosses, you are right... Hellboy made most if not all of it's money within that time frame. Here is how the film performed according to Box Office Mojo.com (nt IMDb like I stated before):
https://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=weekend&id=hellboy.htm

However, that would put the film's falling from box office radar at the weekend of May 7th and 9th which we were still in the pre-summer release period. So that was where I found your post just a bit inconsistent. You stated "There were just too many summer movies that year and I think the movie got cut from first run theaters really quick so I'm sure that had a lot to do with HB1's box office numbers." But the summer movies, as you probably know start around a week before Memorial Day Weekend... which it this time was still roughly two weeks away when Hellboy stumbled at the box office. So the summer movie season of 2004 had no effect on Hellboy's box office numbers.

Funny, on the weekend of May 7th through 9th, Hellboy fell it's biggest percentage the same weekend Van Helsing opened to over $50 million... a take which surprised me at the time. At least that's how I remember it. :D

Again, sorry for the confusion. :monkey3 :monkey3 :monkey3

No worries. :duff :lol

I just didn't want you to think I thought the movie bombed. I thought I was confusing you. :p

I personally saw it 10 times before it disappeared. :rock

Somebody get me an exclusive Drew Struzan HB2 poster at NYCC this weekend, OK?

I want one too!!!! :drool :drool :drool That would look so AWESOME framed next to my HB display....:monkey2:monkey2 Damn you NYCC....Damn you! I hope they offer some great HB prints at SDCC........

I don't really like Mezco's Hellboy figure... he looks too cartoonish... the facial features are too exaggerated. :monkey2 :monkey2 :monkey2

But the rest of the line looks amazing. :D

For any one interested, I work at a movie theater and I found out last night that the new Hellboy II trailer was shipped with the Foribidden Kingdom prints... so it is most likely playing in front of the film around the country. So if you want to see that STUNNING trailer on the bnig screen, now is your chance. :D

But DRAT... we still haven't gotten the theatrical poster yet... :monkey2 :monkey2 :monkey2

But we do have the three sided standee in our lobby. :monkey5 :monkey5 :monkey5

Mezco does make some great figures. I'm still thinking about getting the new 18" version.

I really think the Mezco's comic line was flawless... I liked it MUCH better than their movie line.
