If the plastic is "cheaper" on the second wave grimmy, it's a total pass for me. Especially at whatever high price they're going to go for.

I'm not sure it's cheaper; just a lighter grey (that might be more cartoon accurate, to be quite honest...) and flatter.

I dunno, though... The only second Grimlock I'd buy, I think, is a proper V2 version or one made by FansToys.

I don't think the plastic will be any lesser in quality, it's just the coloring that'll make it look crappy.

It's also worth bearing in mind that the molds have been used that many times now there's bound to have been some degradation so loose joints and bits not tabbing together properly are also a possibility.

Fans Toys are for some reason looking to add more paint apps to Scoria even though the intial colored images they released were pretty much perfect.

The additional paint apps they're proposing for the shoulders look dreadful and if they go with that I'll cancel my pre-order like a shot as the sculpted detailing on the shoulders looks fine as it is, it doesn't need anything adding to it.

I cancelled my G2 Sideswipes from HLJ yesterday as my last order from there got caught by customs but I'll get a couple from Kapow once it's out.

Just got MP 10 Takara ver for a decent price.

Next MP will be prowl, and hopefully a Grimlock if I can find one cheap down the road. Hoping to get a season 1 cast for my autobot collection.

My autobot collection this year will consist of Prime, Lambor, Prowl, Wheeljack and Bumblebee. And for deceptions, it'll be just sound wave and starscream. Maybe some tapes, if I can find a reasonably priced hasbro sound wave. What do you guys think?

I think you're hitting all the high notes, Mike. Unless you are just a nutty, nostalgia-fueled G1 collector for myself, I don't think you need more than Starscream, Sideswipe, and Prowl using those molds.

Having said that, those tapes are pretty dang important. At least, I would look into getting Ravage, Laserbeak, and Rumble (correct name of the blue guy ).

They seem to get all the other MPs, platinum and year of the whatever figures, so I imagine so.

I actually dislike more or less all of the bayformer style Prime figures but I like Smokescreen & Wheeljack so much in the show that I'm seriously considering picking them both up at some point.

I'm trying to be selective, and try not to get same mold/base figure variation. Yeah, those tapes are on top of my list as we'll. they've always been my favorite when I was a kid,always loved the concept of smaller robot inside a bigger robot.

As you can see the upper shoulders have already some nice detail sculpted into them.

One of the FT people posted the following suggestions for additional paint apps on their thread at TFW to see what people thought,

Gold shoulder stripes


Silver shoulder stripes


I don't normally get too concerned with small details but I think that either option detracts from the clean, "less is more" G1 aesthetic particularly for the cartoon color scheme.

It's like they're trying to add extra detail just for the sake of it and I think if FT want to do that they should include a sticker sheet and give people the option to do it that way.

Same. I'd file it under BFD, no matter which of the three they released. If the joints are good, the quality is good, and it looks good (which it obviously does) then big whoop.

Yeah, since it went against everything else available at the time I assumed it was just a Sunbow screw up. I looked it up after you mentioned it, I really didn't realize it was such a huge deal, but I guess it is. Whatever people wanna believe I guess.

See, I don't think it was a mistake. It's too BIG a mistake; it had to be deliberate.

My wacky theory? Most of the early Decepticons were blue and or purple. They liked the name Rumble better (because he, you know, rumbles with his piledrivers; and they were only going to use one tape-person for a while, because Frenzy doesn't show up until quite a bit later), but the red looked too much like an Autobot, so they changed it.

As a result, I'm a "Rumble is blue" guy.

So, finally getting around to watching the Japanese Headmasters... on episode three now, before hitting the sack. WOW, so much better than the US story... or most of seasons two and three, even.

Nice to see Prowl was alive, and some of the other season one characters active. Saw the epic final battle between Blaster and Soundwave, etc... I could REALLY see MP figures of Blaster, Hot Rod, Sixshot, and maybe even Arcee, depending on how popular this season was in Japan...

Fair enough. I'll wait until the final colors are decided and then make a decision on whether to cancel or not.
