Thanks for the Magnus review Gakken85.

Until now the only MP mold I passed on was MP 11 and varients. I already had the first release of Screamer, Thundercracker and Skywarp and still actually prefer them. The Jet mode looks nicer and they can actually put their feet flat on the floor. They were 90% the same figure anyway.

Magnus is going to be the first 100% original mold I'll skip. I can see why some people like the figure, but it's just not for me.

A figure that does push all the right buttons for me though is Fanstoys Soar.

Packaging is great and packed in styrofoam which keeps the figure nice and safe.

The stand is very sturdy and really adds to the display value.

Wingspan is really impressive.

Baby Swoop LOL

Robot mode just looks stunning.

Nest of Swoops

Some size comps

Dino buddies

All in all Ilove this guy. Great in every department and my fave Transformer I own.

Bob

Great pics of Soar! He really turned out nice. Seeing Grimlock with Scoria and Soar really shows that he needs to be redone at a bigger scale. Even with the lifts he just needs to be BIGGER.

If you had Magnus as a kid or like the character overall,he is worth having in the MP collection

I never had or wanted the original toy as a kid and couldn't care less about him now.

Even if I liked Ultra Magnus I wouldn't buy MP22 as I don't make excuses for inferior quality figures just to get certain characters into my collection.

Silent Bob,
Nice pics and congrats on getting Soar! I hope to have mine by the end of the month.

Great pics Silent Bob! I'm definitely looking forward to getting Soar later in the month. I ordered from Omegalock and they always seem to get stuff in stock later than everyone else.

It's inferior because YOU say it is :lol

you don't have to like it or buy it,but calling it inferior is funny...inferior to what?? It's the best Magnus we'll ever get

I just went a bit nuts yesterday and ordered the following Masterpieces:
-bumblebee with battle mask
-bluestreak
-lambor
-smokescreen
-frenzy and buzzsaw

Now bring on Megatron V2 and Shockwave so I can even out the Decepticons.

Yeah, we need more MP Decpticons. Combiner Devastator, make the constructicons Starscream height.

But my dream MP is Optimal Optimus figure, my favorite Optimus version. The original toy is pretty good, but with the MP treatment it would be even better.

Here is my highly critical review of MP-22 :D

Already packed mine back up and sold it off.

Good review! But honestly, now I'm a bit bummed out. I was looking forward to getting mine (still in the mail, I guess).

I mean, no waist swivel? WTF... I agree that a white Prime with armour would/should have been a better choice, but the size is one thing that doesn't really bother me. Still, he'll probably look nice next to Rodimus, another flawed but passable Masterpiece. :)

They don't get to hang out with the season one and two guys. :)

Gakken85,
An intresting and refreshingly honest review that points out a few things that I've not seen mentioned by other reviewers, particularly the ones trying to sell the figure on behalf of their sponsor :lol

If somebody was sending me free figures I'd probably praise them to the moon too but like most collectors I have to use my own money and have to be 110% certain I'll like something before dropping the cash.

Nothing about MP22 suggests I was wrong in dropping the pre-order and waiting to find out what I thought of it in hand.

It's one of the two worst Masterpieces so far and doesn't even have the saving grace of one nice mode that MP05 had.

It's comments like these that show how closed minded some collectors are about reviewers. Are you telling me a review is only honest if it is negative? So a glowingly positive review cant be honest either, considering both are just opinions from two different people?

My review was sponsored, but if you actually took the time to watch, it pointed out many of the same critical points as Gakken85. For example:
- spur marks on the forearms
- difficulty in opening up the trailer arms to swing out to alt mode
- the need to be careful when opening or closing the chest to avoid paint scratches
- the potentially fragile shoulder joint
- the limited nature in the waist and other points of articulation.
- buttflap could have been done better

So I dont see how a sponsored review necessarily equates to a glowingly positive review just for the sake of the sponsor and supposed sales. For me, I'm surprised some collectors have pretty much hated UM from the very beginning, perhaps even due to the fact it was no longer Hasui running the show. It was as if they were finding faults in the figure just for the sake of finding faults to justify why they didnt purchase it. I mean, some of these collectors are even saying they think Stack looks more like UM than MP-22 does! I mean really?!? A side by side comparison with a pic of UM from the cartoon will tell you immediately which figure looks more like UM in the cartoon, but again, everyone is entitled to their opinion!

For me, his chunkiness is frickin outstanding, and speaks to my nostaglia and my memories of the way he looked in the movie. It is a perfect figure? Of course not, and I dont think any of the MPs are perfect if you try to find as many things negative about them like Gakken85 did in his review. An honest review is simply a review that points out all the features, bad or good. By not transforming on camera, I think Gakken85 failed to show some really good things about UM, like the all-in-one cab transformation, which for me is awesome. In my review, I also show why it was not possible with the MP-10 mold to have a white MP-10 included with parts forming, because the trailer just wouldnt look right connected to the cab.

So in short, just because a review is negative, doesnt make it any more or less honest than a positive review. Nor does a sponsored review make it a dishonest review. How about I refresh your memory and link my review right here - perhaps a balanced opinion is in order instead or views swinging too far each way?

The "flawed but passable" shelf. Possibly not as well lit as your others in order to try and hide some of the flaws :lol

In a way I think I'm lucky that the figures I consider the biggest misses since the scale reboot started with MP09/10 are both characters I don't care about although I would be just as critical of something like Sunstreaker or Hound if Kobayashi made a mess of them.

I really want both characters, but only if they're as good as Hasui's Autobot cars.

The good thing is that with 3rd parties increasingly going in a Masterpiece style direction the reliance on Takara isn't as great.

The 3rd parties can perhaps light another fire under Takara's butt before they start getting too sloppy and the likes of MP09 & MP22 become the rule, rather than the exception.

:chillpill:

The only reason I watch video reviews is to get a better look at the figure than any still images can offer and to see what the transformation is like, the vast majority of the time I switch the sound off as I find it distracting.

I decided to listen to Gakken85's review in full as I had a few minutes to kill and I was curious to see what his reasons for not liking MP22 were.

If it's balance you want then here goes,

I think Stack sucks too. If Ultra Magnus was my favorite character in the franchise I'd go without rather than own either toy.

Fortunately he's not.

The vast majority of the time I look at them I don't even have the sound on. There are 2 main reasons for this,

1. I heard one too many people giving a product the hard sell on behalf of their sponsor.

I wasn't specifically saying you were doing this so I'm not sure why you're getting bent out of shape about it.

2. I make my own mind up. Listening to a stranger waffle on about a figure has no influence on my purchasing decisions.

I'm not getting bent out shape because I thought you were calling me out specifically. I was responding to that generalisation you made. If you really dislike this figure that much to pass up, then you're entitled to that. But that doesnt make your opinion any more or less honest than anyone else who loves the figure.

For me, I understand and acknowledge that this figure has faults. But when I look at him standing there with the rest of my MPs, all I do is smile because it's the best looking TF shelf I have ever had in my life. And I couldnt honestly see how they could've made it any better within their constraints of time and budget. You think that neither mode of MP-22 is any good, but I think both modes look excellent. Just like I think both modes of MP-9 look excellent. It's just the transformation inbetween is fiddly, especially so for MP-9.

If that offcial Takara commericial showcasing MP-22 with the other Autobot cars was not enough to convince you that overall MP-22 is awesome, then nothing will change your mind. For me, I am glad that I got it as it fits in well with the MP aesthetic and adds another dimension to the MP line leading from the Season 1/2 cast into the movie.

I cant wait to see what they announce for MP-25!

Ok...we get it ! You don't like the toy or the character. How many posts do you have to make to get your point across?

I for one love both the character and this new masterpiece. I'm glad I got mine from hlj for a good price.

koolkollectibleskhai,
You like it. I don't. Lets just leave it at that.

MP11 Skywarp is my last official Masterpiece and then I'm 3rd party only.

I hope MP25 is something you want.

:peace

Sometimes I wonder if Corsair actually likes Transformers or just likes to complain about them ha! :dunno :lol

He is TF fan, like the rest of us and he likes to be vocal about his opinions in this place we call a forum (e.g. A meeting or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged.)

It's not a big deal though, if he is bugging you, just hit Ignore. :ignore:

I mean pretty much every post I put in here gets ignored. :rotfl

would love to know which transformers and MP's that you consider "passable" to you? There is no perfect transformers in any series because you can always pick apart something in these toys.Is Magnus perfect? of course not! but neither is most of the MP's/3rd party figures we buy...I could care less who designs these as long as they look good and don't break when I transform them (which is rare). So,looking at my display right now,I am about 10 more G1 transformers away from complete contentment. My ONLY disappointment with these are mostly QC
