After seeing the test shot for the FT Reflector, I'm so glad I went with the Maketoys version. I agree with thecorsair about the green chests and I also really don't like their ankle tilt...they look a bit like they have boxes on their feet. They look way too skinny to me aswell.

I saw the Make Toys version in person during a recent visit to stay with a friend and I can't understate how much the green on the chest panel swayed my decision, it's so vibrant that it almost looks backlit and there's just enough extra detail sculpted onto it to retain the pre-Kobayashi MP aesthetic I love so much.

One thing I also really liked was the placement of the tabs on the back of the pistol handles instead of the usual side as it seemed to result in a more tighter and straighter fit.

Some of the official MP weapons and also the 3rd party ones that use the same system either don't tab in properly due to some kind of molding issue on the hands or only tab in at an odd angle which is annoying if you're going for a specific pose.

The only drawback with the Make Toys Reflector is that it's £20-£25 more than the FT one, but I think it'll be worth it.

The Maketoys ones are definitely worth the extra. I wish that the grey tabs on their feet were the same colour as the rest of their foot, but that's my only nitpick. I love the way the chests have been designed, and the little mini version of them in camera mode is fantastic. Here's a quick phone pic of my three with Skywarp. I've still to put insignia on their shoulders.

I already pre-ordered Tyrant, and there was a teaser for Abaddon , and now Sovereign.

Geesh too many Galvatrons. But I am liking the Fanstoys FT-16 Sovereign. It would be nice for this release sometime next year for the 30th anniversary of TF:TM.

He's up at BBTS for $154.99 (FT's Galvy) Very aggressive pricing considering it's an entirely new mold and a bit smaller than their Dinos (Swoop is $200!) but he's almost a freaking year away.

It always makes me wonder about FT knowing about TT future plans. Maybe TT is getting ready to show an official Galvatron and they must put it out first regardless of how soon he's going to be ready to be released?

Regardless, I'll PO him and if TT shows a better version then I'll cancel it. Otherwise, he's the best Galvatron out there so far, not to say he's perfect though. That cannon needs to be tweaked and he's a bit too blocky.

That green looks so awesome it defies hastily taken phone camera pics! It's like their inner spark is glowing from within :)

Not sure where mine will go when I get them, I'll probably have to start a second shelf for Decepticons as once the other Insecticons and Thundercracker show up I'll be struggling to get them all on a single shelf.

So with three 3rd Party Galvatron figures in the works is it safe to assume an announcement from TT with their offering is just weeks away?

I wish Takara brings back Hasui to work on the Masterpiece line. I prefer Hasui's work than Kobayashi's.

His designs were really solid and almost prefect for me.

Woah!

Ballsy move by FT!

Makes me smile that TT are now being beaten at their own game; their design and build quality vs the likes of Fans Toys is slipping. Case in point is their Shockwave vs. FT's Quakewave. Same now evidently with the two iterations of Hot Rod.
Its for the good however and will hopefully prompts TT to pull their finger outta their arse and step up.
I also have zero confidence that this Galvatron will be topped however as Its much perfect.

What does that mean?

Looking at what he did with his figures I take the meaning to be that he preferred to use various sources of reference to come up with a kind of idealised vision of each character that evokes strong nostalgia for the era in general.

Kobayashi only uses the cartoon as his reference and I don't think that trying to slavishly recreate badly drawn 2D animation models on a 3D object with moving parts is the better approach.

The phrase "Looks like it stepped out of the TV screen" gets thrown around a lot when describing MP figures but that's the last thing I'd want as the G1 cartoon looked terrible.

None of Hasui's figures are particularly cartoon accurate, they obviously have many similarities but they don't look like literal copies of what the people at Sunbow drew and they're so much better for it.

Well no figure ever made is exactly 100% cartoon version, if for no other reason than the cartoon designs varied so much over time. And what makes a figure evoke nostalgia is extremely subjective, from person to person. I'm not sure that any given designer at Takara would hold a wildly different view from what he said there. But all the MP figures clearly are taking the cartoon as a starting reference point. It's just that different designers will have different personal styles. I love MP-10, but I love most MP figures, and each has their flaws in my eyes.

Who designed MP Tracks, MP Ironhide & Ratchet? I'm guessing it's Kobayashi? I just feel that if Hasui were on the driver seat, it would have been designed better than it is.

Whenever I look at Sideswipe, Bluestreak, Soundwave and the other MP bots designed by Hasui, they're almost perfect (for me anyways).

EDIT: I wonder if Hasui got the chance to finish Ultra Magnus and did not pass it to another designer, we might have had waist articulation.

I love all my MP's equally regardless of who the designer is. Personally, I prefer how Tracks looks compared to any carbot before him. And I happen to love MP Magnus even a bit more than I did Mp 10. At the end, its a matter of opinions really.

If TT was really suffering because of one designer was moved to another project, then they would've done something about it already. I bet 90% of MP buyers don't know who Hasui, or Kobayashi are. I know my Mp collector friends don't.

Like many say, they all have their ups and downs, but at the end they are the toys I always wanted.

Also, is Ramjet ever going to go up for PO?

I too love all my MP's but you know if it could be better... :)

I also didn't know who the designers were either before MP Tracks. I got curious on who designed who when the design aesthetics seem to change (for me anyways) so I researched who designed the previous MP's.

Hironori Kobayashi = MP01, most of MP03, MP08, MP09, MP11, MP22, Tracks, Ironhide/Ratchet, and probably ( unconfirmed ) Shockwave & Hot Rod.

Hisashi Yuki = MP04 trailer, MP05, Star Saber.

Shogo Hasui = MP10 & MP12-21

At Comic Con a fan was able to get a brief few minutes to speak with Hasui who said he hopes to be back on the MP line in the future but that's up to his employers. The most recent figure he worked on to be released was Combiner Wars Devastator.

Even if I knew none of the stuff about designers I would have felt the same about the more recent MP figures, Tracks is the only one I've been willing to drop the cash on but I've had it almost a week and I still haven't spent more than the initial 10-15 minutes checking the package when it first arrived. It'll stay in the box until it's resold.
