...This is the first thing you've said that honestly gets a complete WTF from me. Blurr I can understand, but the others? Seriously, 'letdowns'? And you consider iGears Arcee a better upgrade? A terribly overpriced figure that just looks awkward? :slap I'm especially baffled by you thinking that Kup is a letdown, when he looks like a pretty perfect upgrade to me, even if he does have an Earth mode.

I gotta agree with you there. Kup is awesome! The perfect modern rendition of a great character. He's blue, he's a truck, he looks old and grumpy, he has a ton of articulation (unlike the G1 toy)...what else do you want?

For someone who blasts G1 fanboys who cant accept anything new and fresh (which i can understand) you certainly seem to go against your own words when regarding these new versions of G1 characters.

I also dont understand the logic of blindly praising overpriced third party toys/copies/ripoff's/knockoff's/upgrades of characters like arcee (which lookds like ____e to me) and blasting the possible official versions when said third party products are so _____king expensive most people cant even afford them!

I guess i just dont get the overthinking of every purchase you (when i say "you" i dont mean you as an individual, BCM, but people with a similar mind set in general) make like you are buying multi-billion pound oil shares when your'e/we're just collecting kids toys at the end of the day.

Sure debate carefully what you buy, thats just common sense, but the way you, and some others ive seen, sound youd think the entire world economy hangs in the balance!

Personally ive never been so excited to be a collector. We've got some great toys coming out many of them G1 favourites who have needed a modern take on the G1 design for literally decades now!
Sure most of them arent perfect but when if comes to robots that turn into cars translating such a complex entity into a kids toy is always gonna have a few problems. You just gotta take them for what they are and have fun, and at the end of the day nothing is gonna be perfect, because perfection doesnt exist and, as i said earlier, they are just toys.

Let's just say that in recent weeks my perspective has shifted.

iGear Arcee = A near perfect recreation of the G1 design that fits in well with the Classics.

...:slap

Kup = The generic truck mode is a poor substitute for the original's futuristic design and the robot mode is one of the worst since Universe Ironhide/Ratchet.

The truck mode fits as an Earth mode for him, and what the hell are you talking about? It's not as messy as the Ironhide mold, is a lot cleaner, looks like everything pegs together nicely, has good articulation, it's unmistakably Kup...'One of the worst'? Seriously?

Wreck-Gar = Robot mode looks more like something from Animated and the amount of grey plastic on the bike mode makes it look cheap.

It's a design with a lot of personality. United version will likely lack the grey plastic. Doesn't really look like something from Animated to me either. :dunno

Perceptor = Robot mode is OK but the alt mode is ugly as hell as it looks like the designers couldn't decide what vehicle to make it.

It almost looks like an arctic exploration truck. Suits, IMO.

Honestly, you're way to critical with your Classics choices. They all look like good figures that are excellent upgrades, and I find it rather ironic that you're willing to pay a lot of money for figures like Arcee, who looks very poorly made but gets a pass because she's a literal G1 update. :dunno

I was alluding to the fact that there's a strong possibility that Has/Tak are talking utter ____ about the legal issue surrounding the Shockwave mold and are just saying that because it sounds somewhat better than "We don't want to spend the money on a new mold".

If it became financially viable all the talk of legal issues would ( not so ) mysteriously vanish and be replaced with a load of PR waffle saying how wonderful it is to revisit a classic.

You're way to paranoid for your own good. If they had the legal rights cleared up, he would have been released long ago. One of the most recognizable Decepticons after all, and one even Hasbro could sell, through conventions or even store exclusive reissues (like Soundwave and Prime).

Something similar happened with Omega Supreme, one minute there was no chance of a reissue then all of a sudden the Encore release shows up.

There actually was a reason, but I'll have to dig it up.

As for the MP Coneheads I think you may have a point but I don't think the the same goes for G1 Dinobots otherwise people wouldn't be paying so much for the KO's.

It does, or we would have at least seen Grimlock by now. The KOs probably don't help matters either; who's going to buy reissues, when they already have near-official quality KOs that even come in G1 boxes?

Although I don’t agree with everything BCM is saying I can understand some concerns about Generations/RTS too.

I think the problem here is that previously the new molds from Classics/Universe (rather than the repaints that were shoehorned into the line to make up the numbers) were all pretty faithful updates to the Gen 1 figs. Sure there were some differences in the alt mode, as there were no licensed vehicles and colour schemes were updated, but you could immediately recognise who each were supposed to be in either mode. Bumblebee was still a small yellow car, Ops was a red truck, the twins were yellow and red sports cars etc. I mean we even got a gun Megs and a tape Ravage!

Some of Generations/RTS has continued this trend such as Jazz, Tracks, wheel jack, Windcharger and Wreck Gar. Even in alt mode at a glance you know who they are, as they are close enough to be easily identifiable.
Blurr, Kup, Perceptor, Rumble, Frenzy (and to a certain extent Scourge) Seem to have moved away from this with completely different vehicle modes, which some will find a bit “off” and perhaps setting a precedent for future releases of “Classics”.

This isn’t complaining about change and updates to characters and designs as that is inevitable and necessary for the success and growth of the franchise, but we have other lines to do this. It’s not that I want everything to be Gen 1 but it always felt that the point of the “classics” line in the first place WAS to do updated Gen 1 characters. It seems that Generations/RTS is showing a subtle move away from this.

Now don’t get me wrong I really like the new figures and will be getting most of them. I think Kup is all kinds of awesome and in many ways I actually prefer the look of Scourge as a stealth wing, but would I have preferred a sleek futuristic car mode for Blurr, a Microscope for Perceptor, a weird box on wheels for Kup and a flying bar of soap for Scourge?

Probably.

Bob

:wink1: from wiki:
Generation 1 Encore Omega Supreme (2008)

As the licenses to produce many of these toys are now expired, Hasbro and Takara no longer have legal rights to produce many of these figures. However, Takara merged with Tomy in 2006 to form Takara Tomy. It was later discovered that Tomy possessed the rights to some of the ToyBox figures, including Omega Supreme and Sky Lynx. As a result of this discovery, Omega Supreme was reissued in 2008 as part of the Transformers Encore line.[7]
This reissue features a head retooled with a removable faceplate underneath the visor.

way to critical

Thats the word i was looking for.
I think, with £13 or £20 toys they dont require such a high level of critisism, nor do they deserve it.
Now if they were £100 or more each id understand.
What i was trying to say was the same level of critisism doesnt seem to be present when judging the third party products, despite the fact that most of them often cost nearly £100 each.
Personally i hate most third party products purely because of this, because i cant justify spending that kind of money on what is still just a toy, not when i have a wife to look after, cats to feed, rent to pay, a vw beetle to maintain, car insurance, and other bills to pay, as well as funding my hobbies of painting tf's and playing video games.
So for me at least the Hasbro/takara releases are the only sensible way to go, even if i prefer most of their products over third party releases regardless of price.
I just dont see the appeal in an expensive knock-off when theres a much much cheaper and ultimately similar retail version at the toy store.
And to re-iterate this isnt aimed at anyone in particular, im speaking in purely general terms.

Yet when you can't get a certain item at retail you go on & on & on & on & on & on & on about the UK being ____ and piss off the ENTIRE board in doing so.

It's ironic that you've been picking fault with my recent opinions when you've been guilty of far worse from the moment you first started posting.

Contrary to what you seem to think Transformers don't really mean a great deal to me and like anything else that becomes more trouble than it's worth the hobby is easily discarded especially now I have changed my personal situation to the point where the cash I previously spent on toys can be better utilised elsewhere.

Ra88,
All's cool, let's just agree to disagree on this one eh?

SilentBob,
You've pretty much nailed what I'm getting at.....it's the consistency of the homages that's at the root of my issues. One minute they're dead on, the next they're wandering too far in the opposite direction.

I should also point out to people that I have a bad cold which combined with the effects of my asthma has prevented me from getting much sleep this last week so I'm much more grouchy than normal.

I also tend to exaggerate a bit but I would have thought people knew that by now.

yet, they typically SELL OUT FAST...blasphemy!!!
seriously, why is it so easy (for me) to understand a small 20 man company producing 5k of a figure vs. Hasbro would produce limited run figures at higher prices.

iGear are a 3rd party company with no official Transformers license that have been making items that will never get any kind of official release.

Unlike FansProject, PerfectEffect & TFClub they have been considerably more cheeky with their many of their products being complete ripoffs of official molds but I think it's awesome because it's given collectors alternate options to the official stuff.

Who needs a crappy Classics/Henkei Prime when there's a scaled down version of the Masterpiece mold that fits with the same line now available?........not me that's for sure.

Look at the new versions of Blurr, Kup, Perceptor and Wreck-Gar............compared to iGears Arcee they are utterly hopeless upgrades of the G1 designs so there's no point waiting for an official one because it'll inevitably be a letdown.

Nice, thanks for the info!

Stuff looks good. I might have to get that Arcee, actually.

The 3 reissues you are after seem increasingly unlikely due to the following,

Shockwave = Hasbro didn't own the original mold and if they are to be believed it's currently unclear who does at the moment although given the character's appearance in TF3 I wouldn't be at all suprised if this mysteriously gets resolved and a proper reissue happens.

Grimlock = The Dinobot molds are apparently damaged beyond repair though why they can't tool new ones from existing toys is another matter entirely.

Sunstreaker = Another lost or damaged mold.

Yeah, I know - maybe I wasn't so clear, but I'm looking for the originals, if I can get them. Ditto for Jetfire and the rest of the Dinobots.

Might have to track down the "reissues", if only as a stop-gap solution, as well as to have them in hand and make sure that when I do find the originals, I know I won't be getting ripped off.

No problem. Glad to help! :)

I think the G1 originals should be easy enough to get but obviously getting them complete and in good condition will come at a price.

The recent KO's are apparently pretty good quality so it could be worth giving one a go.....I've looked at Shockwave several times as I never had the original but with my current stance on collecting I've held off.

Well that wasnt necessary. Way to talk to your friends , and be a complete hypocrite at the same time bcm.

I havent been picking fault with your decisions either ffs, lighten the feck up!
Ive just been trying to understand the way you think, and have tried to stand up for something i feel very passionate about.
Just because you dont give a _____ about something doesnt mean others dont.
I bet if someone was saying the same things to you about your beloved doctor who franchise youd try and stand up for it as well wouldnt ya?
And since we are different people we are allowed to have a different opinion afterall.
You go on and on about that all the time, and moan to me whenever someone on a tf or doctor who board pisses you off for acting the exact same way youve just acted towards me!
And if you are going to be so two-faced that you are going to bring up ____ thats happened on here in the past when you agreed with most of what i said and said practically the same things as i have (and backed me up on most of them) then you can _____k right off!

Wow, it's crazy how people get over this hobby!

Anyway, a couple of new shots to lighten the mood....

Waitaminnit...

So I'm reading the iGear page, and it says those upcoming conehead seekers are the same size as MP Starscream? Am I missing something???

How big are Faith Leader and Arcee?

Isn't the whole point to make these figures in-scale with MP Starscream/Grimlock?

yup, which is perfect since Has/Tak ain't doing it, IMO

Crap, I didn't know that... I thought these were classic-sized or something!

Well, I'm sold - gonna have to get these now!

Where do these ship out of, anyone know?
