Henkei (the Japanese only version of Universe) all came with better paint apps and chrome detaling. United isnt as good but most come with shiny metallic paint which for some characters like Tracks fit perfectly, but for others like Kup and Perceptor and even Wreck-Gar the paint doesnt really work so youd be better off with the hasbro RTS versions. Well...it all depends on your taste i guess.

Thanks for the info!

Well, I think I'll stick with the Jazz for now... Until I can do some real digging and research before figuring who else to get.

Did they make all the '84 car characters? And '85 as well? Those are the ones I really care about. How's the Inferno/Grapple mold, or Hound?

I'll keep an eye out for Kup and Wreck-Gar when I get home. Not sure I like Perceptor though... Do you recommend him?

i dont know but iam a bit dissapointed at sentinal prime

it looks like it was made out of cheap plastic

I really like my SP, my only complaint is that he is kind of a pain to transform.

They made the majority of the 84 car characters i think....i may be mistaken though.

Inferno/Grapple is definately worth a buy, as is Hound but if you can find him go for the Henkei version as he has a better paint job, same goes for Inferno. Grapple is the same wether you buy Hasbro or Takara though so might as well save your money and get solar storm grappel from the RTS line.

Not really sure as I havent seen hardly any RTS figures in stores. I'd probably just go ahead and get them online if the price is pretty decent.

Does anybody know when the first figure for TFC's Devastator goes up for preorder? I thought it was gonna be sometime in May, but now its almost June.

I just got back from my local supermarket (Sainsbury's)which isnt exactly known for having lots of stock of TF toys but to my utter amazement the shelves were packed full of awesome DOTM stuff!
So much so infact that previous lines were all discounted.
£3 for Generations Deluxes (though all but a WFC BB were gone)
£6 for HFTD Voyagers and £15 for HFTD Leaders!
So i actually picked up a HFTD Leader Starscream for £15! Less than what it costs for one DOTM voyager!
Speaking of DOTM after seeing these guys in person i am now sold on buying more from the line than i originally intended.
Couldnt pass up Starscream for £15 so i didnt get any DOTM stuff (they had Megatron, BB, Roadbuster, Crankcase etx) but ive got some cash looming on the horizon so i'll get them then.

He was announced? I thought TFC was done?

just keep an eye on TWF2005.com they'll post an announcement as soon as they know.

as for TFC being done? first i've heard of anything like that.

Here's Mid Warp Skywarp, version 2. Started with a crystal clear universe seeker, which (believe it or not) came in a bag of about 100 pieces of plastic, screws and pins... so he was completely assembled, then painted to look as though we've caught him in the middle of warping/teleporting.

Cool.

Any others you'd recommend the American versions over Japanese? I'm trying to do some online research but my laptop died out here and now I've only got thirty minutes a day to do this until I get back home. I'm in Afghanistan until the 15th of June and am using the "welfare" internet... ugh.

So, from what I can gather - the Henkei versions of Hound, Sunstreaker, Sideswipe and Inferno are better than the US ones... Grapple I can go either way it seems... What about Prowl and Blue/Silverstreak, Mirage and any others?

Did they even make a Wheeljack, Ironhide, Ratchet, Smokescreen, Trailbreaker or Hoist?

Well done btw, being over there and stuff. Hope you stay safe!

Right, since you have such limited access heres a definitive list:

What you should get:
Universe/classics 2.0 Sideswipe.
Henkei Sunstreaker. (reason why you neednt bother with the henkei version of his brother is because the hasbro and henkei versions are mostly the same apart from a chrome spoiler on the henkei one which doesnt suit the character of sideswipe as much as it does sunstreaker)
Henkei Hound.
United Jazz.
United Tracks.
United Blurr.
Generations Wheeljack. (the United/Japanese one isnt worth the extra it costs)
Classics Bumblebee. (also can be bought under the "reveal the shield" line with black racing stripes instead of white, or can be bought under the japanese "United" line with a metallic yellow paintjob. Really up to you and your budget)
Classics/Henkei Mirage. (both US and Japanese versions are great)
Henkei Voyager Optimus Prime.
Universe/classics 2.0 Ironhide. (many dislike these molds but i think they are great)
Universe or Henkei Ratchet. (This ones tricky, as his value is sky high at the mo, so you may find it hard to find one, but he's a great little toy)
Universe/classics 2.0 Silverstreak.
Henkei or universe/classics 2.0 Prowl. (i have the henkei version and he is awesome, but you might not be bothered by the differences between the US and Jap versions)
Henkei Inferno.
Reveal The Shield Grapple.
Generations Kup.
Generations Perceptor is an ok toy but unless you are a completionist you could probably live without him.
Reveal The Shield Wreck Gar.
There are also Henkei and universe/classics 2.0 versions of smokescreen but the hasbro version sucks and the henkei version is really hard to find and when you do he costs a fortune, worth it if you have the cash though.
You might also like to consider Henkei or generations Red Alert. The henkei one is awesome but much more expensive then the hasbro one obviously.
There hasnt been a toy of trailbreaker made yet apart from a crappy legends-scale version, and same goes for Hoist, sans crappy legends scale release.

This is what i consider a "must buy" classics style TF list. If you want Decepticons let me know and i'll make you another one for the bad guys.:)

iGear reveal a bit more of Ironhide/Ratchet,

pp05.jpg

Looks like they've used at least part of the Universe/Henkei Inferno transformation because the basic shape of the arms and the way the panels hang off the back are identical.......cue the white knights and their tiresome whining whenever iGear release anything.

The swappable gadgets for the hands look great but the slightly puzzling thing is that the picture in the bottom right makes it look like they've reused the chest pieces from Faith Leader as the window looks the same....hopefully that's just part of the tease and the correct part isn't done yet.

DPrime,
Here's both versions of Wheeljack & Henkei Smokescreen,

The Generations Wheeljack is on the left and the United one on the right. To be honest there's not really much to seperate them and they're both great, it's really a matter of preference for the shade of green and whether you like WJ's "ears" clear plastic or painted silver.

Hasbro also released Smokescreen but it looked awful..........the Henkei one is VERY hard to get now but has one of the best stock paintjobs on any modern Transformer, almost as good as United Tracks or Alternity Cliffjumper.

Also if you get Prowl, the following labels will make him look a lot better,

If I-gear have just re-used parts of faith leader and copied the inferno transformation then its no wonder the "white knights" would complain, as thats just plain flippin' lazy and lame.
Hopefully this isnt the case but if it is then its just another reason to dislike i-gear to me. They deserve to be shut down if all they can do is copy other peoples designs and re-cycle parts.

One of my more popular customs is Mid-Warp Skywarp. I get many requests for that custom, this one was an order for a Masterpiece Grade version.

I started with a (expensive) Masterpiece Ghost of Starscream figure. Most of the figure is cast in clear plastic, so I got lucky. The parts which weren't were cleverly painted over, to either appear clear or act as "visible" Skywarp parts. Because the clear plastic Takara used wasn't as clear as I'd prefer, I buffed, sanded and polished it making it shiny and clear... like glass.

Mid-Warp Skywarp also utilizes my easy tail fin modification. His "warping" effects were created using about 6 shades of blue; from navy all the way up to pure white. Skywarp also has an alternate face (flips to "warp mode" sneer) or traditional Decepticon red optics.

His base includes a very bright LED which aimed up illuminates all of Skywarps tasty clear parts.

Skywarp was originally a commission, however - due to circumstances beyond the client's control, the order was cancelled and... he's teleporting himself to ebay.

Awesome, this is exactly what I need, thanks!

Any concerns with weapons though? I see that the Japanese ones were often chrome...

Yeah, why not? :)

Seems like the MP Seekers can be used pretty well with these lines, though, correct?

Yeah, thanks for this bcm77! I noticed that Smokescreen seemed pricey... Oh well. Nice that sometimes the Hasbro version is actually better. I think the Hasbro Wheeljack looks more accurate to his G1 counterpart, if I'm not mistaken...

I hope they don't cheap out on Ironhide/Ratchet. I'm not sure I like the Has/Tak mold myself - these have the potential to be MUCH nicer, imo.

Damn, those teleporting Skywarps are the bees knees. They remind me of the transformation scene with Unicron from the Transformers movie (animated).

And I'm a bit psyched about the Igear Ratchet and Ironhide. Curious to see the final product and scale with the Alt/MP figures.
