cheers man
This is a definitely noob question but are model car paints better to use than "regular arts and crafts" acrylics when repainting transformers? I read on TFW that you want to get a good paint that will stick to the plastic but I didn't see any mention to what exactly is "good paint" to use. I was going to get Testor's Model car paints but wanted to check before I bought anything
Well, i use mostly automotive paints on my customs, but they can be quite a specialist type of paint to use, but there's nothing better when it comes to durability and finish.
For someone who is starting out though (are you airbrushing or hand brushing the paint?) id imagine model car paints would be pretty good.
If not good quality enamel model paint, or acrylics by Tamiya can be really good too.
At the end of the day how good your paint will look and last depends on how well you prep the toy before any paint ever touches it.
Sanding down areas where parts will rub or touch each other is a good idea, this allows the extra mass a coat of paint will add to not get chipped off in these tight spaces, then washing everything thoroughly with warm soapy water helps get rid of all the mold release gels and other oils that can cause paint to react or prevent full adhesion.
Then its a good idea to add a light coat of primer and once that's done you are ready for paint.
Phew...lol
