MP Tigertracks!

Furyan,
Glad you like the pics, I've done a bit of experimenting with that riser and there's several great options.

The only drawback with that particular one is that I can't fit 2 side by side on a Detolf shelf so if I can't find one that can fit the entire length of a shelf I might look into getting some custom ones made.

That way I could have Sideswipe and Red Alert in both modes on the top level and Prowl & Streak on the lower level.

If Sunstreaker happens he'll have to be moved into Red's spot of course....Red could go next to Smokescreen as a series 2 character.

Nice idea of a battle display....the art from the back of the G1 toys always looked cool so you could use that as inspiration.

Tiger Track is looking good, I'm not sure whether I'll get 2 of him due to his not being a cartoon character but I love that mold so much that I can't rule it out.

Paint apps look pretty good on that one! Maybe they had to up their game based on Lambourghini complaints? Either way, the yellow is a little too garish for me. I'll pass, and keep waiting for those damn Datsuns! :)

I think the rumor that Lamborghini was ready to end the agreement with Takara over the first issue that occurred is a load of bollocks.

Before a deal was signed the two companies will have established a dialogue so it's reasonable to assume there would be room for further talks to smooth things over if any issues arose.

People only bought into this rumor because they wanted an explanation for why MP12 & MP14 only got a single production run.

Sideswipe and Red Alert aren't top tier characters so Takara probably didn't want to risk flooding the market in case a second run didn't sell out so they only ever planned one run and it'll be the same for most of the other Autobot cars.

The only cars that I can see getting more than one run are Bumblebee & Jazz, if Takara can get the licenses.

Saw Generations Springer and Bliztwing at Wallymart today. Blitzwing looks awesome. Going to definitely pick him up when I get some spare cash

I agree. People seem to think the Sideswipe situation is a one-off, but look at MP-11 - aftermarket prices are through the roof and Takara's not releasing anymore. Even Soundwave - which everyone knows is getting a US release (quite possibly a better version, for that matter) - has risen dramatically in price.

And despite this, I still see people posting questions like "should I preorder MP Prowl/Bluestreak now or wait?" You can't go wrong, people! If you decide not to keep it you will MAKE money!

Yeah, it's a total no brainer if you have the funds available.

An interview with a Takara marketing guy has revealed some intresting info. A summary of the translation is,

1.They plan on continually trying to get the car makers that are being difficult on board.
( So they're gonna stalk VW executives until they give in :lol )

2.The delay to Prowl and Bluestreak is due to the demand being higher than they expected.
( It's likely still one run for each, just a larger one than the Lambos.)

3.Smokescreen will be revealed soon and will look very different to his mold brothers.
( Sounds like he's gonna get some retooling as we were hoping :yess: )

4.Encore Fortress Maximus sold better than expected so the Encore line will continue,
( It's time they reverse engineered some G1 Dinobots to make new molds and gave us a box set. )

5.Something "big" will be revealed at the Tokyo Toy Show.
( Probably gonna be MP20 or Takara's version of Generations Meh-troplex. )

soundwave,
Awesome ink! :clap

Hey all,

Seems like a really informative thread. Been out of transformers for a very long time and was wondering if there there are official collectors grade lines or different lines from the ones I can find in a place like walmart/ toyrus. I'd probably be interested in getting a couple of original generation based figures in a new line. Any information would be great. Thanks in advance!

The Masterpiece line is the only collector quality line.

Here's a rundown of the releases from Hasbro,

Optimus Prime version 1
( There were two different releases with slightly different color schemes and extras. Neither had the trailer that the Takara MP04 version released for the Japanese market had. )

Starscream & Skywarp
( Both were made from the Starscream mold first released by Takara as MP03. )

Grimlock
( Had an exclusive accessory the MP08 release had and a few different paint apps. )

Hot Rod/Rodimus
( Paint apps were different and the trailer from the MP09 release wasn't part of the package. A Targetmaster was the exclusive item. )

Thundercracker
( Made from the newer Starscream mold released in Japan as MP11 )

Optimus Prime version 2
( Prime's red & blue is brighter and cheaper looking than MP10 and there's a couple of different paint apps. The trailer and all the extras are included. )

Next up for release are,

Soundwave with 5 tapes
( This was MP13, MP15 & MP16 in Japan so it's quite a good set. Soundwave's eyes are yellow like the original toy instead of red like the cartoon and there'll be the usual differences in the color schemes. )

Acid Storm
( A green repaint of the newer Starscream mold. A non existent character in the original cartoon or toyline and will likely shelfwarm for months which could possibly cause Hasbro to think nobody actually likes Masterpieces. It's the most ridiculous character choice so far. )

Things not to expect from Hasbro's MP line,

Megatron
( Due to his alt mode being a realistic looking gun the original MP05 version never saw a retail release from Hasbro and the new one that's widely believed to be coming in the next year won't either. )

Licensed Autobot cars like Sideswipe & Prowl.
( Takara don't mind paying Lamborghini & Nissan for licenses, Hasbro have confirmed they need to pay for a seperate license and then didn't elaborate any further....they are probably too cheap to do it. )

EDIT,
Grey prototype of Ironfist,

The price looks like being $45.

I reckon they could probably do Guzzle for the same price.

Awesome, thanks for the rundown. Are the MP line figure sold in places like TRU? I was doing a bit of searching online and it looks like the Takara version of the line moves a bit quicker. Is it worth picking up a the JP version of a figure or will most of them make their way into the U.S.? Also, are the Hasbro versions sold as preorders in the U.S. or shelf only? How about the Takara versions? Where is a reliable place to PO takara versions for someone living in the U.S.? Thanks in advance,

Holly crap, looks like these figures easily run into the $100s. Any hope for Optimus Prime getting another release? He's being scalped for upwards of $300; I'd love to have a definitive OP figure
