I cant wait to get this piece in my hands...I used my points on this one so I got it for free :D. I hope SS makes these pieces bigger as the line continues. Or maybe make a 1:1 bust one day. I would be all over that!

Chris

For free? Jesus Christ you must buy a lot from SS. :lol Either that or be extremely patient with your points over the years.

One every couple months would work for me... :D

We were discussing price before and several were against a big hike in cost. How much would a 1:1 bust cost ? I can't see a something like a Deinonychus being less than 400.00 ? Maybe a 1:1 Velociraptor head though...about 12" long..that could work.

Same here. Any more often would start pushing people's budgets.

A 1:1 bust of which species? If they're reasonable species, I would again be up for 1:1 maquettes of smaller dinosaurs. Compsognathus, Archaeopteryx, Sinornithosaurus, etc. Sinornithosaurus could be posed with a dead bird, being that this little dino is the first known venomous dinosaur, using its venom to incapacitate primarily small birds and mammals.

Otherwise legendary scale busts would be ideal. Are you familiar with the Sideshow legendary scale busts? The 1:1 busts are usually stagnant representations, albeit extremely detailed and accurate, of characters' heads. The legendary scale busts also render with spectacular detail, but they are always dynamic, most often posed in an active fashion to accentuate the personality of the character depicted. I feel the legendary scale is ideal for Dinosauria. Also advantageous for collectors, the legendary scale busts are much cheaper than 1:1 busts and take up about the same amount of space as the dioramas and maquettes we have now.

I was thinking 1:1 (scaled down) pieces cast from the actual bones themselves. Not necessarily the skulls of huge animals like a T-rex. Maybe of a skeleton fossilized in stone as we find them today. Or a 1/4 scale version of a T-rex skeleton in its entirety. Would be a very unique piece to this line for sure.

Check out Bone Clones. SS partners with them to sell some of their products, all of which as replicas of bones are simply divine. Museum quality in the best sense of the appellation, and the very, very best I've ever seen. Traditionally their buyers are institutions such as museums and schools, but private collectors are certainly welcome as well.

Not really familiar with the legendary scale pieces..I've only heard them mentioned before...Deinonychus is about the size of a JP Raptor so that head would the largest I could see getting made. Smaller species like Comsognathus and Archaeopteryx...even maybe a baby therapod... Sideshow could def do them in 1:1 scale as full body pieces... :D

I don't personally have any interest in dino busts. I think they would be better off sticking with maquettes and the vs. dios.

I generally agree..but 1:1 maquettes of smaller dinos are a great idea...and I have seen some great busts before..there is an Allo in the Lanzandorf collection I always liked... not it but still similar :

Free statues make sense if you're a loyal buyer. Heck, Blade practically gets one free statue a year on the Dan Plan. :lol

:lol Sorry about the temptation. As I'm typing this I have the Bone Clones Siberian tiger skull looking down upon me. It's humbling and awe-inspiring to say the least. :D

I wasn't aware that they had produced a Green Moray piece. Care to post any pics? I bet it's outstanding.

That's a Skulls Unlimited product, yes? To my knowledge they're not affiliated with Bone Clones.

When I bought it I was told it was Bone Clones..but this one looks practically identical..mine's mouth is more open and the teeth look better is all. I only paid about 15.00 for it ... I would rather it ahd been a Viper Moray skull though..the species Enchelycore and Enchelynassa are my favorites.

Eels have fascinating skulls with a lot of subtle variation between species. I like to closely examine the palatal teeth when I have the chance. You'd be surprised at the disparity in skulls. :D

I hadn't heard that Bone Clones ever produced one, is why I asked. But at least in my opinion their products look the best on the market, so it wouldn't surprise me if you did have one and it was a bit more defined than the Skulls Unlimited version.

That's truly awesome. Hardier pets have always been the most satisfying for me. I was continually frustrated with my two Caribe when they were very young and susceptible to minor tank fluctuations and disease, but as they matured they became extremely, extremely hardy. I never have to worry about them in the slightest. Magnificent creatures. My newest aquatic addition, technically my girlfriend's fish, the Green-spotted brackish puffer, is also showing a good bit of resilience so far. Very precocial, inquisitive, and a great little hunter.

I've never had a saltwater tank myself. If I have the time one day to extend to the upkeep, the first saltwater critter I have would be a Peacock Mantis Shrimp. Stomatopods are such incredible creatures it would seem negligent for me not to have one at some point. :lol

Eels are generally hardy overall..but they're are species and specimans more suceptible than others.

I don't own one anymore...but I used to have up to 4..my biggest was a 200 GAL tank. They def kept me busy..so much so I developed a tick in my eye...heh heh

Invertebrates don't so well with eels..lol..I used to catch crawfish and release into the tank for variety..the little while they lived was enough for the eels. I even had my G. Moringa eat a small shark , another eel, and even my Yellow Tang which was pretty aggressive itself.
