Re: American hustle

Tonight, I had my first double feature in probably 5 years (that wasn't part of some sort of theater sponsored marathon). I started off with Anchorman 2 (which was hilarious, by the way), and, following that, I saw this. That was the perfect order of things, though, because this ended the night perfectly. I legitimately think this is the best film I've seen this year, and it's probably my favorite film of those I've seen this year. It hit some personal notes, as well, which is part of why I'm so partial to it, but, honestly, if you get the chance, see it. David O. Russell has done it again, and I genuinely hope this nabs Christian Bale his second Oscar because, dammit, he sure as hell deserves it.

Good to hear! Been following this one closely and can't wait to see it.

Amy Adams. Yum. That is all.

Absolutely. Jennifer Lawrence more so.

Re: American hustle

Thought it was well made. Has a excellent cast that did a good job.

But was boring and a bit too long.

Was nice seeing Bale and DeNiro at the same table.

My friends felt the same way. They liked the acting and the over all look of the movie, but the story wasn't good. They found it boring in parts too.

Re: American hustle

Found it entertaining and intriguing....and enjoyed everybody's performances, but yet, nothing too special about it.

Re: American hustle

I thought it was great and breezed by, for the most part. Maybe a snip here or there might have helped, but I liked everything that was on screen.

Re: American hustle

I liked it.
And how it played out in the end. The art of the masterful hustler.
Didn't find it boring at all. Was entertaining and funny.
Jennifer did another great performance too.

Re: American hustle

It's a very classy film! I loved it but I understand why others might not. All performances are top notch! Soundtrack was great as well.

Re: American hustle

I know three people who have seen American Hustle. One wanted to walk out, had his date allowed it, and the other two thought it was boring and hard to follow. Hmm. I don't think it's high on my watch list. It is good to hear that some of you are enjoying it, though. I might catch it later on this year.

Re: American hustle

I thought American Hustle was superb. Great performances

But yeah I can understand people not liking it. It's definitely not a main stream movie.

Re: American hustle

I was waiting for Bradley Coopers perm to combust.

And for Travis Bickle to pull his .44 on Batman.

Re: American hustle

I didn't like it. And usually I like arthouse/smaller/slower films, and Russell as well. I loved Silver Linings. I also recently saw a little movie called Robot & Frank that never saw wide release that I thought was fantastic, it was in a similar vein. I thought the performances were top-notch, of course, though I'd expect nothing less from this cast. But I thought it needed some tightening up in the script. It focused way too much on inconsequential stuff while letting the main story stagnate for it seemed like a half hour at a time.

And, while a red-blooded American boy, I got a little sick of Amy Adams gratuitous cleavage after a while...I know, I hate myself for saying it, but after a while I felt like I was reading Playboy.

I thought it had great performances, mainly from Bale and Adams, Cooper and Lawerence were just ok. I will be pissed if Jennifer Lawerence and Cooper get nominations this year(undeserved) I found it rather mediocre. The story is just not that interesting, and has about every heist film cliche included. After just seeing Wolf of Wall Street before this, Hustle doesnt hold a candle to Wolf's energy.

I for one loved it! Performances from everybody were stellar in my opinion and that is what made this film great for me. Having said that David O Russell immaculately captures the 70's. American Hustle has a real sense of place and era, as good as I have seen to be honest. At it's core it's a survival film, everybody doing what they must to survive.
