Re: American hustle

Tonight, I had my first double feature in probably 5 years (that wasn't part of some sort of theater sponsored marathon). I started off with Anchorman 2 (which was hilarious, by the way), and, following that, I saw this. That was the perfect order of things, though, because this ended the night perfectly. I legitimately think this is the best film I've seen this year, and it's probably my favorite film of those I've seen this year. It hit some personal notes, as well, which is part of why I'm so partial to it, but, honestly, if you get the chance, see it. David O. Russell has done it again, and I genuinely hope this nabs Christian Bale his second Oscar because, dammit, he sure as hell deserves it.

I did the same as you Wednesday just gone when Hustle came out here in the UK. The only difference being I seen Hustle first then Anchorman 2 after :duff

Aaron I can't for you to see Wolf, and then come back back in this thread and piss all over American Hustle...:1-1:
I guarentee you will drop Hustle to number 2 on your list for 2013. Have you had a chance to see "Prisoners" as well? I would put that at my no.2 for the year. Hugh Jackman deserves an Oscar over Bale all day. But DiCaprio is most deserving!

I know I will love Wolf and I can't wait for the 17th :panic:

The thing is I really love Hustle as well. I did see Prisoners and I enjoyed it very much but I prefer Hustle personally. It's a tight call on Bale and Jackman, not a lot to choose between them imo. I am sure come the 17th I will be voting Leo though. Early reportings say it's his best performance yet, so that has me very very excited :)

Damn, the 17th of January! Not much longer now...can't wait to see what you thought of it. I know you're a big Scorse fan as well.

Huge Scorsese fan! That's what I loved about Hustle, it had a Scorsese/Casino vibe in parts for me. Yeah not long now and I can't wait :panic:

Saying that, I have 12 Years A Slave on the 10th and that will trump the lot I think.

Prisoners was fantastic, but **** me was that a heavy film. The subject matter and the performances; it was all very dark. I've still yet to see The Wolf of Wall Street, but I hope to catch it this week. I'm a bit conflicted, honestly. Some people are saying it's the greatest thing since sliced bread and others are saying it's a Scorsese directed soft core starring Wall Street Execs.:lol

The one I really want to see, though, is Dallas Buyers Club.

Entertaining flick but the story was really not interesting.
What was is the actors, their interactions.
I prefered the other Bale flick OUT OF THE FURNACE.
A b movie script directed like a great indie arty flick.
Loved it.

Saw this last night good movie love the chemistry between Adams and Bale Lawrence annoyed me in this movie.

Great to see this film get the recognition it deserves at the Golden Globes :)

Best Musical or Comedy (beating Wolf of Wall Street, Inside Llewyn Davis and Her)
Actress in a Musical or Comedy
Supporting Actress in a Musical or Comedy

The fact that either movie was in the musical or comedy is strange.

That's what I thought, as well. It had some humorous elements, but it didn't strike me as being a full-blown comedy, so much as a "dramedy." I was a little disappointed that Bale didn't win, but I'm not going to say that Leo didn't deserve it until I see the movie and decide for myself.

Is it weird that, as far as these supporting actor noms go...
I'd have preferred Deniro get one as opposed to Cooper? He did a great job, but there's something supremely awesome about DeNiro speaking Arabic. :lol
