You know who I feel sorry for? All the genuinely beautiful little girls that look at their beautiful Barbie dolls as an example that when you're pretty you get what you want in life. They're going to be tricked into seeing a film in which a less-than-average-looking women gets what she wants in life because of her personality. What are the beautiful little girls supposed to take away from that? That beauty doesn't matter in the world? They're going to grow up with the anxiety that if a beautiful woman and hippopotamus on hind legs both have equal skills in a field and vie for the same job, that the hippopotamus might get the job? I'm pretty sure that's not how it works in real life. :monkey3 Now we're going to have an entire generation of little girls growing up being "beauty-shamed". I suppose on the plus side, strip clubs and the porn industry are about to enter a Golden Age. :yess:

Now that I think about it, this casting may be a great idea after all.

Mr. Green have no interest in this movie but don't know why so much negative for it. Don't you guys have some action, sci-fi, comic, etc. to watch?

Personality?
Have you SEEN the kind of stand up work this woman does? :slap is this really the kind of celebrity they want for little kids to google?
You might as well cast miley cirus for the movie as well :lol while they are at it.
Give carrot top a role in the movie as well :lol perfect for the kids lol

There are much better choices if u want personality.

Personality should always come second. What's on the outside is always more important. :lecture Have all of Hollywood's lessons over the decades taught you nothing? Now that I'm thinking about it, why did they have to cast an unattractive white woman? Why didn't they give Leslie Jones a shot at Barbie? Aw crap, I bet I just unintentionally spoiled part of the film.

MATTEL was extremely protective of Barbie for decades.
They had problems doing cartoons or short movies for a long time.
It wasn't until toy story success that they decided to explore more.

They even denied pixar the use of barbie for toy story 1 because of how protective they are...

Think about that. They were afraid of toy story..

Someone as vulgar AND controversial as Amy Schumer playing Barbie goes against everything they have done to protect the brand. It truly makes no sense.

Theres definitely some backroom sabotaging going on :lol :lol

I'm with Kush. The knee jerk responses are expected, but are just that. She is reasonably funny, and given that Mattel apparently wants to do an unconventional story of empowerment and finding strength in diversity, this casting makes some sense. I've seen some of the cg Barbie cartoons. And no one here would get enjoyment out of that, more conventional form of a Barbie story.

amy schmuckface?

she's a fart joke and that novelty wears off pretty quick.

This is ridiculous. Okay, number 1...how many of you are Barbie fans? Are any of us? Seriously. So...it's not killing most of our childhoods here. Second thing, why does Amy Schumer need to be a twig to play what is...essentially a doll that has no definiting character other than she wears a lot of outfits, has a lot of jobs and has been with the same guy for god knows how many decades? I think Amy schumer is an attractive woman. I've noticed she seems to be gaining a little weight but...how does that matter? It doesn't effect her talent, either acting or comedic. I've never been interested in an Barbie...anything but I might watch this just based on her casting alone. It tells me it's going to be something different and probably very silly but maybe in a good way.

I don't understand why some guys seem to think in order to be a talented female comedian you have to be attractive. No one makes these stipulations on guys. Is it nice when you watch a funny woman and she's hot? Of course it is. But is it a necessity? No.

I always pictured someone like a Reese Witherspoon or somebody doing this but this is probably a more fun choice. I'm sure the trailer will predictably find a way to use Aqua's "Barbie girl". :thud:

Amy Schumer is digusting both inside and out. You take a look at her and she's a slob. She talks like a truck driver and has no respect for anyone. Her movies and stand up are a total disaster. When you look at her and her comedy schtick, you realize her mind is weak. I don't even understand how she got on screen, I mean this is a person who has referred to themselves as a "human trash can". Sony made a terrible mistake putting her out there and they're going to pay a big price. We're all a little chubby but Schumer is worse off than must of us. Amy is a very unattractive person, again, both inside and out. Her stand up is mean and she's a nasty, nasty woman.

She's not a good role model for little girls, that I can tell you. It's like if they made Lena Dunham or Sarah Silverman Barbie, they're gross and tactless.

The sad thing is that both haters and defenders will all focus on her looks ( attack of defend) but no one will discuss her kind of humor.
Stuff like this

I will never ever ever understand how she became a feminist icon

Why is there even a thread for this movie? I've not even read any posts in here but I imagine this thread is a free pass 'thread-crapping' hang out.

Move along people.

Thread about a movie
In the movie section ?

:dunno

The same reason why aren't there threads for the latest rom-com movies starring the latest male that all females love to look at or why there's not custom requests for a 1/6 Sandra Bullock Miss Congeniality doll.

Exactly.

Full figured women can be attractive (the AT&T girl is freaking adorable) but like DiFabio said Amy Schumer is just so disgusting inside and out I can't help but wonder what Mattel is thinking with this movie.

Will it be animated? That would make more sense. We've seen vulgar comedians like Sarah Silverman and Dennis Leary lend their voices to high profile family entertainment.

But live-action? That's a real head scratcher unless Mattel is deliberately reinventing their brand. My 10 year old daughter has never cared for Barbie, instead preferring the Disney Princess line of Barbie knock offs and American Girl dolls.

Maybe Mattel is giving up on appealing to little girls and thinks their audience is now grown and crass women. Who knows.

yeah, good points. Sarah Silverman was not as bad because it was a cartoon and i doubt any kids bothered to look who the voice was. there really is a disconnect between cartoon and the voice work. But they said this was Live action movie so it will be Amy Shumer playing barbie herself....

I wonder if parents will really take their girls to a movie with Amy as the lead. I cant see that going well once parents find out the kind of comedy she usually does.
maybe these sony projects are like that scam n the movie the Producers :lol

Like Feig's Ghostbusters, this will be another massive PC troll.

I just find it amazing that SONY continues to finance potential franchise movies that turn off the masses years before they even go into production.

What's next? Transgendered Robocop reboot starring Laverne Cox and Lena Dunham as lesbian Lois?
