I can see your points.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the high adventure and action of Star Wars as much as much as I did when I was a kid. But scenes such as Tarkin’s briefing on the stolen plans during ANH remain equally intriguing to me; perhaps more so now as an adult (even before Vader chokes out Lt. Santino :p ). I never knew how rewarding a series that focused on the bureaucratic core of the Empire and the desperation of those rallying to fight it could be until I saw Andor.

I don’t know about Gilroy’s level of admiration for the source material, but IMO he is crafting much-needed depth for the existing SW universe. Making sense of how that fits in with space witches and death-escaping astral planes is something that I’ll leave to the Wiki writers ;) .
I liked Andor, but it often felt too political, and reminded me of "trade disputes" a bit too much.

SW is really at its core a Flash Gordon series about space wizards and knights.

Princesses and Villans. So I am very glad for the escapism of that world. If I wanted political intrigue I would watch The West Wing.

The grown up in us is scoffing at the fantasy elements that we loved as a kid, and my inner child is starving for that content.

I get the need for more adult SW content for older viewers , but at its heart that not really what SW was about.

Rewatching it also now, Baylen arrived yesterday.

This is an excellent series for fans of Rebels , but it's really it also good for those who have not watched Rebels at all.

So sad part of the fandom cannot relax enough to stop nitpicking every detail of every show Disney does.

Really enjoying it again, and looking forward to the final parts.

So sad about Ray, I hear he will be recast, which is better than a distracting CGI attempt.

But it will alway be an obvious hole in the story of one of the most interesting character to come along in DSW.
I don’t follow - if Baylan is recast then that means they’ll be continuing his character arc. Now if they decided to kill him off screen like the MCU did with T’Challa, then that would be a waste and result in a massive hole in the narrative.

I think it's been confirmed he will be recast.

That will trigger a lot of people to automatically hate it....but I think the character is dower enough that a suitable replacement will be found.

Yeah it’s been confirmed Baylan is getting recast as his story isn’t over. I’m hoping we flash forward a year or two and Baylan has been out in the wild and unkept. Having a longer beard and hair could transition the recast easier if there isn’t as easy of a comparison between the two actors.

I wouldn’t say being a fan of Andor is scoffing at fantasy. In fact, watching a character-driven tale of rebellion and then seeing a freakin’ tie fighter blaze by reminding you that yes…this is a Star Wars tale was one of my favorite things about the series.

My gripe with many of these recent tales is the dilution of the hero journey. Batman is who he is due to an impossible to replicate series of factors. Luke Skywalker was A New Hope for the Jedi and the galaxy. These stories were (and are) incredible as they were only capable of happening with that specific character.

IMO, everything gets diluted later on as new writers seek to rapidly replicate what made the originals great: Batman has an entire squad of Bat-clones and Vader has an entire posse of emo Jedis that didn’t get sixty-sixthed to hunt down ALL of the newly-revealed Jedi that didn’t get sixty-sixthed. ANH had so much weight as the Vader and OBW (soon to be Yoda, Palps and Luke) were “all that is left.” The Force was the living power that bound all life together. Fantasy persevering through the banality of Sidious’ Empire.

So, I have gone way off topic for the Ahsoka thread. Thanks for the discussion guys.

So Andor diluted the brand? Even though everyone seems to love it?

It’s a massive galaxy with near unlimited options, I want to see some different things that aren’t just Skywalkers and Jedi vs Sith.

For me, yes. It was a good show, but it was a dog **** SW show.

Imagine a Star Trek show, but it's about Ferengi trading
Imagine a Transfomers show, but it's about Spike and his dad on an oil rig.
Imagine a Terminator show, but it isn't about Skynet.

Lightsabers and the force make SW unique. Take those away and you just have more generic sci-fi content.

It's a war in the stars. Lightsabers and the force make it unique, yeah, but not every single piece of content has to revolve around that. The same thing over and over again gets boring.

As someone that loves lore and worldbuilding I'm all for seeing quality content from a different perspective.

If you have a good story to tell then tell it, and tell it well and I'll be on board.

I don't think it dilutes the brand, but I thought it was ponderous and boring. I had to force myself through it and fell asleep multiple times. Does that mean I think it was a bad show? No. It just wasn't MY kind of Star Wars...and that's ok.

I mean, unless you wanna see the great singular hero story over and over again (and clearly people do) what else is there but to expand on the GALAXY of other people ???

I am way tired of the singular lone hero trope.

Can’t please everyone unfortunately.

People complain when there’s more content

People complain when there’s no more content

People complain when there’s new content but it’s too safe and similar to what’s come before

People complain when there’s new content that tries something new and different/fresh.

You just described most of the SW fandom.

I liked Ahsoka a lot,
Andor was good.
Obi wan Was ok

Half way through Acolyte and like the ideas presented, but some really bad writing and execution overall, kinda reminds me of the PT.

I finally had a chance to watch this show. I don’t have D+, so I waited for the blu-ray. First I have to say I’ve never liked the PQ trilogy movies, and I never watched any of the animated shows, so I had no attachment to any of the characters, and know very little about their history aside from some things I’ve seen prior.

My two cents for what it’s worth…

The good:

Most of the villains were interesting (too bad they killed of Morgan).

The music.

The new locations and worlds were nice (sick of seeing everything take place on Tatooine), and as short-lived as it was, being in a different galaxy.

Some of the fight scenes were cool.

The bad (for me):

As much as I like Rosario Dawson, I thought her performance was bland AF; aside from a couple scenes she shown very little emotions other than stoic or snarling.

Sabine was such an imbecile. Sacrificing millions of lives to allow Thrawn back just so she could find one worthless half-wit lost in another galaxy was beyond stupid. Ashoka should have run her lightsaber through her skull for being such a selfish B, instead of just going “Oh well, if I only had more time to teach her the right decision to make. Oopsie, just have to live with it.” No. No you don’t. Kill that dumb ****.

Hera was really kind of wasted as a character; so was Chopper from everything that I read.

Seeing 3PO again was cool, but at the same time felt a little too much like pandering (being an OT guy, it’s disappointing to me that Filoni is just another Millennial who only seems to care about the crappy prequel era, but then had to go…”Oh, yeah, we should probably throw a bone to all the OT folks that I’m too stupid to actually care about, even though without them this franchise never would have gotten this far.”

Ezra not sabotaging the Star Destroyer instead of just using a disguise to steal a ship and run like a coward (another selfish character much like Sabine).

Simple: People just like complaining.... That's one of the few lessons I've learned in life... ;)
Funny how some things never change.
Literally argued about Star Wars as kids, still arguing about Star Wars as adults...but now we also collect dolls. I swear us collectors are going backwards in age. :rotfl
