David Hayter is the only guy I would want to play Snake. That video posted with him dressed as Snake convinced me no one else could do it. Snake's iconic voice cannot be faked and Hayter must be the one to do it.

But in all likelyhood his will turn out like all other video game movies and bomb. They'll cast actors who don't fit the parts they are playing at all and we will end up with another GI-JOE or Resident Evil where the characters are who they are by name only and don't look or act like who they are based off of at all.

I watched a biography on Bale last night. I like him a lot more now. It was interesting watching him in interviews at 13. You could tell he hated it!

At least SOMEONE agrees with me.

Besides, Hayter could use the film work. has he done anything live-action since land of the lost?

I remember Hayter in the Guyver live action sequel. It was an awesome movie, and I love Guyver in all its forms.

I would like to see Hayter as a live action Snake, but it just wouldn't happen if it were a mid-to-high budget film. They'd want star power in the role.

Could happen Eaisly. All it would take is Hideo Deciding that they're going to use Hayter. Hideo is kinda known for taking a Very hands-on approach to Metal Gear. If, for example, he Wants Hayter to do it ( and I'd think it's likely) He couldput it in the contract for the movie's liscense.
Basicly he'd be telling Hollywood that if they want a metal gear movie, they're using Hayter. It would be setting an unusualy presicident, but, then Hideo is an unusual Game designer.

Lets just hope Kojima cares enough about his franchise to not let Hollywood butcher it with crappy actors and bad writing.

Just thinking about past video game movies makes me angry that they don't stick closer to source material. Doom, Super Mario Bros, Street Fighter, Resident Evil... Such promising ideas thrown in the toilet because they didn't want to stick to the game enough.

Doom actually took it too far with that ^^^^ first person sequence. Gah that was awful.

I actually hated the Guyver movies. They were nothing compared to the original cartoon Guyver series.

But yeah, I don't think it's practical to imagine David Hayter ever playing the role as Snake. They'd want someone with big name, enough to attract a lot of movie goers.

Bale as Solid Snake for me, definitely.

And i'm sorry but I really hope hayter doesn't do it, voice or no voice

and that's why most video game movies fail.

Well, no. Most video games suck because the studios don't try hard enough to adapt a game's narrative into a cohesive linear film. That and usually the script and screenplay sucks.

I don't really think it has anything to do with the popularity of the actors involved, sure, the star power usually makes studios even more complacent, but it's only a small factor of many. Actually, few video game movies have big names attached to them. Angelina Jolie is a big star, and it probably helped the Tomb Raider movie bring in big bucks even though it was mediocre, but the problem with that movie was it's inherent generic action movie-ness. Can you tell me many other video game movies with big stars attached?

One of the few video game movies I enjoyed was Silent Hill, and that movie admittedly wasn't technically good and it had no real "big" actors to draw in people.

I would say that the best person to play snake in a movie would have to be jackman. even better if they dubbed davids voice in for snake. That Josh guy could be liquid though, he already pretty much has the hair going.

doom had the rock he's a big enough star. they headlined him for the movie

It's not the big stars that are or are not attached to it that make or break a movie, it's the Mentality that hollywood has that leads them to go with more big named stars over others that ruins films. A movie should have a good enough story to be able to stand on it's own regardless of who is in the film. Take for example, the first star wars film.

Another proble, is Hollyweird's choice of actors that are not great for a role, but seem to be deemed "good enough".

Say what you want about him, and while I agree that unless Hideo took a "my way, or no way" approach to a metal gear movie, and FORCED producers, directers and the studio to use Hayter, it would not happen, You're not going to find ANYONE whould would be a better Solid Snake. Why? He's been the character for 10 years. He knows the character, his manerisims, his personality, etc. He's had 10 YEARS of practice as solid snake, you're not going to find another actor to be him, it simply wouldn't work. CGI character or not, He IS Solid Snake.

I know it's a little different, but try to imagine if In the 4th indy move, someone else had been selected to Play Indiana Jones?
Or a new ghostbusters move, with someone Other than Bill Muray as Peter Venkman?
While it might be good, it still WOULDN'T be the same character. something would be missing.
I'm not saying that someone elses potrayal wouldn't be good, but it wouldn't be Solid snake.

The problem is the fact that 90% of the time Holywood is a little full of itself, and has several preconcieved notions about what does, and what dosn't work. and it's that elietist mentality that gives us such crap like the Doom movie, the upcomming GI Joe film, and other trainwrecks.

I guess what I'm getting at is simply thus.
If it aint broke, why "fix" it?

Voice acting and screen acting are two disparate skills, though they share a cognate concept. I just don't know if Hayter has the acting chops to pull off a feature film version of the character. He has been in very few live-action roles worth mentioning. If an MGS movie ever starts production with any sort of legitimate talent behind the writing and directorial side, then they will want an actor with considerable acting chops, big name or not. I guess my issue with having Hayter in the role is his ability, not his broad, mainstream popularity (or lack thereof).

The movie version of Snake doesn't need Hayter's appearance or voice in order to be Solid Snake in essence. That's the great thing about the top crust of actors today: they inhabit their roles. I'm sure Hayter would do fine in a live-action MGS if it were a frivolous, generic action flick in the vein of most mediocre video game movies today, but if we, as fans, want more than that from a potential MGS film, then we can't have Hayter on screen.

Bringing up Indy and Peter Venkman isn't fair, because those are characters MADE for live-action whose very natures have been birthed by on-screen actors.

I mean, I like Kevin Conroy as the voice of Batman from the animated show, but do I want him as a live action Batman? NO.

If I were to pick either Hayter or...say...Hugh Jackman or Christian Bale, I'd pick Jackman or Bale any day. My fanboy side would be disappointed, but the side of me that likes a good movie with GOOD acting would be content.

A metal gear movie will be disappointing no matter what. What's the point when you have the perfect story, characters and action in the games? Stay the ^^^^ away from MGS Hollywood :lecture
