Fellas, that's the problem with all of our "modern" collectibles. The factories they are produced in are in China, right? So, what's to stop said Chinese factory from getting their piece of the pie, albeit illegally? If not the factory itself, what's to stop three or four guys from doing their own thing?

In other words, let's say a caster, a painter and one of the clothing experts get together and decide they are going to make 100 extra of the limited edition product as its being produced. They go to the box and styrofoam guys and get them in on it. Then sit on 100 extras they make when the run is initially produced. About a year later said item goes up to $1000.00 on the secondary market. These four or five gentlemen then go to ebay and get a quick $200 a piece when the item sells for $1000.00.

Theft in manufacturing goes on all the time. I know of a fella at a auto manufacturer who ripped off enough tools to fill his entire garage. Including a motor lifter. If this can be done in the States...why not worse in China? It may not all be dirty little "re-casters". The quality with which these counterfeiters produce these fakes is too precise to just be some guy making recasts in his garage. Coupled with the fact that a great deal of Chinese factory workers live in a dorm at the factory makes it even easier.

The only way to make sure you get the real deal is to buy directly from Sideshow, or one of their authorized vendors, as the items are produced. Period.:angelsmil

Interesting exposé. If the demand for counterfeits raises, it could harm SSC's profits. Some collectors don't care to much about the authenticity of their collectibles.

The eyes on the Ebay Gray Hulk are different than mine which was purchased directly from SS.

Check again, they are correct. The same question was posed on SF, the eyes in auction are correct, it is the magnification of the lens, it's perspective, the angle of the light reflecting from the color of the eyes, all those factors make it appear to lime.

Problem with buying for SS directly Anton is that people who become collectors later on (like myself) and would like those pieces must buy them from a secondary market. If that was not available, than the collectables would not be sought after, not increase in price, and well, they would become less a collectable from a desire and financial points of view.

Great write-up on your view!

Those collectors who do not care about the authenticiyt of their collectables are, generally speaking really not collectors (I know there are exceptions to this rule, but VERY FEW). A real collector is honest with themselves about where the piece came genuinely came from.

People collect for different reasons. Take 1/6 scale figures. Some folks must only have figures in their original, pristine state. Others will modify their figures to their liking, switching bodies, outfits, accessories, repainting heads, etc. to get the figure that they enjoy the best. Are the people who do this not "real collectors"? If not, why not?

I'm not defending re-casters by any stretch here, but I don't think it is accurate to say that those buying, owning, and enjoying recasts are not real collectors. If you buy a knock off but really like it, and don't lose any sleep over not having an original and saving a few bucks in the process, you are still a collector. You collect something. Therefore, you are a collector.

I don't see how someone being "honest with themselves" about something has anything to do with it. Actually, I'm not clear on your definition of "collector" generally.

Well, that being the case, I would make a sound recommendation for the following: ask for the invoice that came with the item when Sideshow sent it to the (previous collector )seller when it was delivered to them. Everytime I have had to sell an item on evil bay (Dr. Doom EX., Ardeth bey 1:1 bust, Frankenstein bust), I have always supplied the buyer with the shipping carton, and if they ask, the original shipping invoice. That's probably what its going to boil down to eventually. Dated invoices, lol.:angelsmil

Where does the invoice come from, I don't get receipt slips in items from Sideshow, or maybe I do and I don't pay attention.

But I did have a receipt notice provided to me whenever I bought a IM Ex Com from someone.

What's weird is he refused to post pics of that base he claimed he owned with #61.

... and I found this funny too. Greatwall and another guy really got slammed for their suggestions to it, and unfairly in my opinion.

Do I believe the guy had #61? Sure I do. But I think there is NOTHING wrong REGARDLESS of ones reputation in a member asking for pics ... and when a person(s) react the way they did like "I will never help anyone on this forum" or "I should not have to provide pics" or saying to a member "are you a friend of his (referring to a member being a friend of the seller), all of sudden casts a shadow of doubt. Real shame, because I always thought without doubt that the SF member in question has a good reputation.

I just don't think you treat people that way for a simple request unless you are defending something that is not on the up and up.

Yeah I've had members or a ebay seller basically tel me that they will send pics once I have purchased the item, I pretty much peace him out and moved on, that is not right at all.

Come to think of it...I may be having a senior moment. I collect so much of this garbage, I may be thinking of another company altogether, But I could swear SSC sends me those too...... Or it could be I printed the order page out and saved it for all of them so I could remember what I paid, which seems like something I can remember doing. I haven't bought anything directly from Sideshow since the Mummy pf. I have got the other editions/additions from my local authorized Sideshow dealer. Luckily for me, counterfeits are not an issue. But I can see where this would drive someone crazeeeeeeey.:lol

It is weird. When you accuse someone of recasting and claimed that you have that number, what's wrong with providing some proof?
Sure that guy may have some reputation, but what about those who don't know him personally?
And what's even more weird, is when someone questions the integrity of his claim, that someone suddenly becomes the supporter of recasters.

sounds like someone just trying to raise some shat imo, and by the sounds of it he succeeded:rolleyes:

Yep, I agree. Accusing someone without the ability to provide proof is "trying to raise some shat", and from the look of where that thread has gone to, I think he succeeded big time. IMO

provide pics AFTER you purchase it. that's to funny man.

i haven't even checked the conversation out and doubt i will since people can be a little crazy when it come to witch hunts.
something else that i find odd though is that out of all the pieces i own, i couldn't tell you on edition number out of them all. but i guess some guys are that way when it comes to collectables.

No need to check again, the eyes ARE different....never said they weren't correct.
