...i don't collect these figures but,

Have any of you thought that maybe Sideshow has changed the paint factory for these figures? Therefore, explains the increase in price?

..or, look at the accesories it comes with. There's a whole bunch.

I was at work, but managed to sneak online right around 10:48am...? Luke wasn't sold out when I put him in my cart, but by the time I clicked to complete the order, it gave me an error. I had to reload the entire browser. 60 seconds later, he was sold out. :p On the waitlist, but not too sure about the $82...

But Justin, should you get him.. would it be money well spent?

I preordered Luke Ex. today. While I'm not excited about the new price increase, i'm not upset about it.

:D

I pre-ordered the exclusive Luke today. I was able to jump in right at 12:00 noon my time, 10:00am Sideshow time. I used my 250 Sideshow Points I'd been saving from my ALIENS power loader purchase. So with the 250 SS Points, I got $12.50 off of the price of Luke. So my estimated total right now with shipping is $64.63. Pretty good I think!

I'm not too happy about the "exclusives" though. His floppy "Gilligan" hat and goggles? Why those two items? I know we've all been talking about a stormtrooper blaster rifle, and the white stormtrooper belt he wore for a short time inside the Death Star. Those would have been nice exclusives or even the rope with the grappling hook he used to swing with Leia. It is cool to see his Tatooine poncho and the long rifle. I didn't expect those to come with him. So that's cool! :D

Luke is one of my all-time favorite characters from Star Wars....along with Han Solo....Boba Fett...and so on. So, I knew I wanted a new figure of him in 1/6 scale.

I don't know to me it seems in line with their definition of what a exclusive should be.

I would of prefered the blast helmet or his model, but at least it wasn't his actual in a scene poncho like Qui Gon's was.

I was at work when the preorders went up, so now I have an exclusive sitting on waitlist. Oh well, gives me a chance to decide if I really want the figure or not (kinda want it since it would be my only luke).

I understand it is getting kinda high for what we expect. I just don't understand some of the arguments being made.

1. I will just buy medicoms at that price.

Look at medicom Luke. Sure it may have a better body. Although it is a bit short and looks nothing like Luke. It was also twice the price of this.

2. I will not buy anymore until they change the body.

How many of you change the poses on a daily basis? Really besides MaulFan to take pictures. I mean most of us post our elaborate displays behind glass or on shelves. I for one don't walk into my room and play with my dolls. I set them up so they look good on a shelf.

3. I will just not buy it at that price.

Fine don't buy it. Maybe it will show them maybe it wont. Mind you this figure sold out at $69.99 in under an hour.

Maybe I just don't understand. Again this is not something you have to buy. If you want to argue price and beat a dead horse about something I suggest complaining about something usefull. Maybe you could write your congressman and complain about the price of gas. That would be a valid argument. I am getting sick of filling up my tank. After all I can't afford it anymore now that I have to drop $69.99 plus shipping for a doll.

Not to attack Badmoon specifically, but once again, some of you people are missing the point. We aren't complaining because we can't afford the price increase. We are upset because the price increase is not justified. If you went to a restaurant and they wanted to charge you 5 dollars extra for silverware, to use mind you, not own. You don't NEED silverware, you can eat with your hands if you like. If you are eating out instead of cooking, you can probably afford the 5 dollars. It's the principal of the matter. You can say that this example is facetious ... and yes, you might have a point. But, if you are trying to argue that ANH has a complicated outfit that REQUIRES a price increase, I want some of whatever you are smoking. Farmboy look is basically wearing sweatpants, a blanket, a belt and some boots. The outfit isn't formfitting. There is no complex tailoring, as you would have in Han, Boussh, etc. This price increase isn't about necessacity. It's a test. Is the consumer willing to pay the price. I won't lie. I am weak and will find a way to acquire this figure. But, it WON'T be through Sideshow. In fact, I am pretty much done with Sideshow direct. I just got through canceling my Palpatine set. I don't care if it's only 5 dollars saved, I will give the purchase to an online e-tailer here. Sure, Sideshow will still make money, but I disagree with their new pricing structure and this is the only way to show them - by not purchasing it directly from them. Sorry, floppy hats and googles are cool, but they aren't worth my integrity. I want to send a message to SSC and giving them up is the only way to do that.

On a personal note, I still don't get the "well, golly gee, George, I am lucky to get anything. Charge me what you like .. da ha" crowd. If you are willing to pay that much, I accept that. It's your money. But the attitude like people who object are crazy is silly. Whether you accept the increase or not, can you justify it? No. Hell, I MIGHT be able to justify if Smuggler Han was 69.99 and ANH Luke was 64.99. At least Han's out fit is tight fitting and somewhat complex. But this all smacks of "wow, those suckers spent 65 ... let's see if they will pay 70." And, unless we express our anger over this in some way, the poster who mentioned 99.99 as a possibility in the future is probably right.

There's one thing you can say about Medicom. They never upped their prices like SS is doing.

It's a sad fact, but it's what buisnesses do. go listen to george carlin's rant on Buisness . I agree with it whole-heartedly.
Companies want money, simple as that, and the y will take every bit that they can get.

Carlin's my favorite commedian, man I love his rants.

To be fair, when you're charging top dollar from the start for every release, you don't have to up the price, it's already there.

Ya, I've never seen Medicom really hike up, but they've been the highest for a while. However, Sideshow's not the first or only to see increases.

Hot Toys Rambo 2 figure, just a few years ago, was ONLY $65, which included the HT muscular body, detailed accessories and the likes. A couple years later, Rambo 3 figure is released, Hot Toys has a new sculptor so the portrait is nicer, but the overall figure is essential equal to the Rambo 2 in accessories and the likes. That figure ran $94.

Fact is, when companies try to offer the best deal on a product, things come along that we don't see which change cost.

Is Luke still on the bland Buck body, yes, but I think the quality of tailoring and painting and accessory production has come a ways since the 2006, so I think the changes in world economy and factors like that, along with actual product quality make the increase not seem all that irrational.

Luke isn't necessarily any more complex or have any more accessories than other figures.

It's because the economics of the world have changed. I outlined before what contributes to price increases and everything is getting worse.

-The dollar is rock bottom now.
-Oil is priced high - sure it contributes a little to the cost of plastics, but has more impact in how the product gets to you. Shipping costs have gone through the roof and that includes shipping from China to the US.
-China is in an economic boom - their 8 year olds won't put in the 18 hour work day for $1.00 a day any more.
-Lucasfilm gets their pound of flesh. We just saw Master Replicas give up their flagship license that was probably 90% of their revenue because they didn't want to pay the license fee.

I'll leave the *****ing in the price thread i'm done i've said my peace.(if it goes up anymore i'm out without a new body)

Anyways i'm still amped to get this figure.(my favorite luke)Boy with no knowledge of the force yet with HUGE potential. But the exclusive hat does look too big like one of those hats you get at a carnival kinda.(i hope it shrinks or is adjustable in some way)

Bring on LUKE!!

Right on! If it comes out of the factory as well as Ben did, I'll be happy to give them my $70. After that? It's gonna have to be something really special like Bossk, a Tusken or Vader to get that much out of me.

If it wasn't for Trevor's fantastic sculpt, I would have passed at this price. And I don't look at the selling price, but the final price of $82 and some odd cents.

I was feeling in the creative mood so I decided to give Luke's eyes a quick repaint, I think it's what was bothering me about the head, not the sculpt, but the eyes weren't so..Hammil. Granted, I'm not a great photoshop painter and I especially can't mix PS airbrushing in with a photograph well, but I think it makes a difference.
