The proto on him did look nice, but I think the sculpt got softened a bit as well (maybe too thick of paint) which hurt the overall effect as well.

Wouldn't be the first time. Remember a couple of summers ago when there were four different Star Wars figures set to ship and they just jumped around and shipped whenever they came?

I think that's wildly uncalled for.
With the prices of these things going up, I want some buffer time between figures. I can do one figure a month if I have to, but two? Sideshow, I cry Uncle!

Haha, I just want my Luke already to see how they did those leg wraps. And Han I want to fiddle with the guns and gloves.
No, they haven't shown that, but here's a PS image I did with altered eyes. I see Hammil in the sculpt, cheeks, nose, mouth, etc., but I find the proto eye paint doesn't capture him. I'm hoping that like Bespin Luke, Production ANH's paint will bring out the likeness.

That looks a little bit better but depending on how the final piece looks I might end up using the head from the GG minibust like Dan Chung did on his custom.

Not necessarily this Luke, but it is amazing how a sculptor can make a head that perfectly captures a person's likeness, but a painter and easily hide that if they don't capture the likeness with a brush. I think Trev's ANH Han looks like Harrison in the bare sculpt shots, but the way the eyes are done on the proto obscures that, same with his Indy.
As far as this Luke goes, I've got totally confidence in Trev's sculpt, it's what the factory does with the paint that I'm eager to see.

As much as I like this figure, I'm still not 100% sold on the likeness... but I'm interested to see how he looks in hand. So far (for me) the only figure that really nailed Luke was the ROTJ... I'm hoping this one does as well.
I'd agree with that. Regardless of expression choice, ROTJ 100% represents Hammil in Jedi for me. I'd say Bespin is about 75-80%, some things are so-so, but overally I can still see him pretty good in it, and Yavin's about 55-65% to me, even with a repaint, it looks like Hammil as Luke in ANH, but almost stylistic and not quite photo-realistic like a lot of the sculpts end up.
As for this Luke, particularly the QTVR 360, I see Luke in the sculpt, so I'm confident.

Yeah the 360 is about as good as it gets before in hand... and from certain angles I can see it, but other not as much. All of the Lukes (even Yavin 
) have been good... but I'm really hoping this one can rank up there with the ROTJ once in hand.

If the paint comes through in production, I can see this one taking the ranks of Old Ben, Sidious and Palpatine.

I agree 100%.
The iconic version of young Skywalker + Trevor's headsculpt + some great looking outfit/gear = a top 10 position on the ALL Star Wars standings.
Mat sculpted this. 100% sure on that.
