Jinxxy's got crabs?!?
Jinxxy's got crabs?!?
I was wondering if there are any vegetarians on this board. I really would like to know what supplements or vitamins etc. you have to take to maintain a healthy body. Meat has always been a part of my diet but lately I have been shying away from it- I am really just not into it. In short I just feel more comfortable eating vegetables but want to know how to still get all the nutrients and things I will be missing if I exclude meat from my diet.
I still haven't decided if I want to go full vegetarian but the idea is looking a lot more appetizing to me lately so any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Rory- Please realize that more animals are killed when a large vegetable or, especially, a grain field is harvested.
Those huge diesel-eating machines rip through land that birds, rats, mice, gophers, snakes, frogs, squirrels, racoons, etc. have been living in for a year. Killing them and/or their nests. That is, if they're not already dead from the huge amounts of pesticides, fungicides and herbicides.
Thousands of animals are killed or maimed for every grain field that is planted and harvested.
Then after harvesting, more huge diesel-eating machines have to move the grain to a huge diesel-eating factory, where the crop can be cooked, flaked, made into O's, however it's processed, and then packaged. And packaged into what's generally a petroleum based bag. Then, of course, shipped, generally far away to your market.
How much bread do you eat? How much wheat? Oatmeal? Rice? Pasta?
If you don't like the idea of animal suffering, it is much more humane to support sustainable farmers who allow indiginous species to co-exist alongside their herds/flocks.
Sustainably raised animals are allowed to live on grass, in the sun, in huge fields the way nature intended.
They eat minimal amounts of grain.
The farmers also practice humane travel and slaughtering techniques.
Think about this:
For every *single* sustainably-raised steer I eat, a vegan has killed tens of thousands of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, insects.
And yes- I eat minimal amounts of grain.
If anyone out there truly cares about animals and the environment, this is the least hypocritical way to go:

Well, this thread was never on track. Some people on here find the view of vegetarianism just plain offensive for what-ever reason. And some of you just plain don't understand the difference between a vegetarian and a vegan. I personally find it sad that people had to start an argument over this thread and call names, it really just got ugly at points in this thread.
The original intention of this thread was to get tips from other vegetarians, not for pictures of meat. It reminds of the time when I started discussing not having babies in the baby picture thread- which got me in a lot of trouble. I wasn't even rude in that thread.
Either way, this is what I have been thinking for a bit now and thought I would share.
And Sam, I wasn't ignoring your post, I just didn't want to fuel an unnecessary fire. However I will touch on your post now that I am already doing what I didn't want to do.
Your proposition is not possible for me as my reasons for being a vegetarian are not only based on compassion for animals- although that is a large part of it. Red meat is terrible for you. Yes, many on here will probably post reports about how I am wrong as you can find anything on the internet but seriously, it's not healthy. A diet full of fresh fruit and vegetables makes me feel alert and very healthy. Since I have changed my diet I have only felt better. I haven't even gotten a sniffle since as opposed to my intermittent states of sickness on my other diet. Long story short I believe that a meatless or very low meat diet is a much healthier choice.
And to touch on my other reason for my diet, I do not like the idea of eating animals. You say that millions of animals are slaughtered due to harvesting and such but that is in sharp contrast to actually eating them... well in my opinion. I know others will disagree that's the internet. Some say that's hypocritical but everything in this life is grey and undefined.
I think many of you feel insecure or inadequate when a person tells you that they are a vegetarian. Like you are instantly a horrible person in their eyes which makes you lash out in defense. Honestly, most vegetarians know they are the minority and let you be on your way. Those negative feelings propagate a nasty relationship from the start. Respect for the decisions of others goes a long way even if you don't fully agree with them.
Peace
Vegetarians are the devil.
