I saw an ad for Aquaman the other day and literally laughed out loud thinking of your comment that there's a deleted scene where the Kaiju slams its tentacle down on the ground and then they cut to a montage of 1500 walls exploding next to people throughout the world. :lol :rotfl

TOHO executive seeing Aquaman Kaiju for the first time after signing deal with WB for Godzilla “KING” of the Monsters...

Well, I've given it some thought, because it did bother me when I first saw the movie, but let's think this through...

This is Superman fighting Batman (even though Superman knows Batman is Bruce Wayne, Batman does not yet know Superman is Clark Kent, IIRC). Batman/Bruce Wayne has made it abundantly clear to both Clark Kent at Luthor's party and to Superman during the fight, that he sees Superman as an inhuman alien.
So why should Superman say "save my mom"? He's close to passing out/dying, so it makes sense that he says "save Martha..." maybe he couldn't finish with the "Kent", who knows?
But it's not far-fetched to think that he would appeal to Batman's sense of duty towards saving innocents, so he asks Batman to go save a helpless civilian, he's bascially saying "by fighting me, you're letting them kill an innocent person, go save her!"

Saying Martha Kent instead of Martha would have worked, as he obviously knew that Batman/Bruce had met Clark Kent and was aware of Superman's connections with the staff of the Daily Planet. But the fact that he said her name twice made it obvious that the "Kent" part wasn't cut off, so let's not pretend that Snyder deserves any benefit of the doubt in this instance. He ******ed up plain and simple, and the result is one of the biggest WTF moments in cinematic history.

I didn't mind the Martha moment. He's Superman, so he said Martha as if he didn't know the woman. My problem is that the fight sucked. Also, there were plenty of times Superman could have talked sense into Batman, but he used violence instead...as if that's going to make things better. The whole fight, premise, and outcome was stupid.

The IM and Cap fight was so much better.

IIRC there was a scene in the extended cut where some woman tells Clark that the only language Batman understands is violence and that he'll never listen unless you beat him up first or something.

That said, yeah IM vs. Cap >>>>> BvS by a wide margin.

Well if he didn't know the woman, why would he say her first name? It was just a poorly conceived part of the plot, and every attempt at rationalizing it (including my own - believe me I've tried) just makes it worse.

With respect to their fight, I agree completely. He could have just pinned Bats down and calmly explained how Luthor was manipulating them, but then there wouldn't have been their preliminary bout ahead of the main event.

Guys it's a movie ffs. Any movie may not last more than 10 mins if you applied rational.

The Martha Moment™ was necessary for Bruce to finally be redeemed, it doesn’t really matter how they got to it.

But since he had just spoken disparagingly about Clark’s parents it made sense to take the more personal approach.

I don't know how anyone can view the fallout from this scene in the movie and honestly believe it didn't matter. When I saw it on opening night it was met with incredulous looks and laughter from the majority of the audience, so I think it mattered. Also, saying the name Martha didn't make it personal until Lois ran in and explained who that was, so it didn't come off like Clark was taking that approach.

He can know the woman as Superman, but she doesn't have to be his mother. That's what I meant. He's saying Martha because he's distancing himself as Superman from his secret identity. The whole thing is silly, but that's how I look at it.

I agree that the hostage he mentioned didn't have to be his mother, but saying Martha Kent (or Mrs. Kent) instead of just Martha would have worked so much better. Bruce would have (a) recognized the last name, (b) seen Superman's willingness to die in order to save her and (c) realized he was fighting the wrong guy. All without having to rely on the silly our moms have the same first name contrivance.

What I meant was, it didn't matter how they arrived at that scene. Why Clark called her Martha rather than Mom isn't a big issue in the overall scheme of things. As Rainpaulo said above, it's just a movie, and audiences are often expected to suspend disbelief for the sake of expediency.

No, it had to be just "Martha" because in Bruce's mind he was saving his own mother. She was his "surrogate Martha". He said, "Martha won't die tonight."

This was his Silence of the Lambs moment where he freed himself from a life of petty-crime-fighting by "saving Martha". It also replaced the legacy he originally wanted, that of killing Superman.

The significance of the Martha Moment™ seems to have been lost on many, but I'm not sure it could have been done any better. Maybe it can only be appreciated by hardcore Batfans.
