Them fightin’ words lol

Aquaman in a way is like BP.

Aquaman debuts in JL then first solo outing breaks 1B
BP debuts in CW then first solo outing breaks 1B.

Cap is the complete opposite!

Solo movie first doesn’t break 1B
Shares movie with other heroes breaks 1B

Interesting.

Now I just wait for Khev to crush you lol

Next time Khev posts, don't bother. The Khev is dead, bury it. Consider this mercy.

A billion on his very first solo film is very impressive. People can keep making fun of the character and the movie, but only BP made a billion on his first outing, and he had the benefit of debuting in Civil War, unlike Aquaman, whose debut was in BvS and JL. Also, Aquaman didn't get good reviews or the hype that BP got from the critics and the media.

This is true. Its very remarkable that Aquaman is pulling in this kind of money.

Just goes to show you: the rest of the world loves bright colors and shiny objects.

Can you imagine the amount of money Flash Gordon would make if it opened today and was made with todays FX and exploding walls?

Mysterio -"Hold my beer."

Actually, it's not necessarily a bad thing if it means more comic book accurate outfits instead of realistic and grounded because of a fear that the characters might look silly...which they are, so this could be a good thing for the MCU The X-Men. Yellow costume Wolvie with mask please.

37 movies have made over a billion dollars to date, lots of them mediocre or even supbar. No shame in not making the list, especially for a uniquely localized hero like Captain America. Hell his best made film, TWS, earned a relatively paltry 714 million and is way down at #104.

Aquaman might not have been worthy enough to draw me back for a second viewing on the big screen but I am glad that a throwback "dude's movie" with zero political messaging (especially that of the left wing SJW variety) can make bank at the box office. Hopefully it sends a message to Hollywood that audiences don't want to be preached to (especially from amoral hypocrites) and simply want to escape and be entertained.

A lot of films made a billion dollars, but how many did it following two of the biggest disappointments of all times and having to overcome the negative public perception of its own sorce material... it's Aquaman, the biggest joke in super hero pop culture. It's truly amazing. Most if not all of those mediocre movies that made it to a billion either had a respectable sorce material, or a previous good, well received film to keep people interested. Even the success of Jurassic World, perhaps one of the the biggest surprises and a mystery... to me anyways, because I thought it was bad and generic, it can be attribute to the first film, which was great. Aquaman? It's just...a mystery.

Isn't it good for us that comic book movies are breaking the billion dollar mark? We get more comic book movies.

It sure is i want all of them to make billion dollar films because that means we continue getting comic book movies. I just hope Marvel copies DC with their new strategy doing stand alone comic book movies like the upcoming Joker.

This is the case I keep making for BvS, but no-one seems to buy it. Sadly it’s still a “failure” despite making more than the “successful” Wonder Woman.

(And before you say the top two superheroes in history should have made more, I present to you BB and SR!)

Even taken out of context, that's a phrase I never thought I'd see this (or any) morning! :lol

It's a failure because it sucks. :)

The only amazing thing about BVS is that they somehow managed to make a boring film with two of the most popular supeheroes.

While I respectfully disagree, I admit I'm in the minority.

I guess the one thing we *can* agree on is there are bad movies that made more, and less, than $1b. Yet that still seems to be the arbitrary measure of "success". Humans love big round numbers.

I understand. MOS is my favorite Superman film so far, and I know I'm in the minority. :lol
