Since my first comment on the new maquette teaser didn't make the cut, we'll see if this comment gets through moderation...

Likeness issues aside, why not start a line off with Gimli? Saruman? Eomer? Theoden? Arwen? Treebeard? Elrond? Faramir? Bilbo? Mouth of Sauron? Elendil? Isildur? Something other than the same core characters we’ve seen over and over again in every format? Can Sideshow make a bold statement and tell us with absolute certainty that they are committed to at least making all 9 members of The Fellowship this time around? Or will fans be left debating whether or not to jump into this line for fear that yet another LOTR line may end without the complete fellowship ever being made? That’s all we really want, Sideshow. Really.

Don't feel bad, my question didn't make it through moderation either. Not surprising though, most of the comments posted so far have the look and feel of an infomercial. Here's the comment I submitted and SS refused to post :

"Sideshow, this may turn out to be a great looking statue, but from what you've shown us so far, I just don't see Viggo's likeness. The unpainted sneak peeks you showed us looked great, what happened?"


Well I guess we can lay all the specualtion concerning the likeness to rest sometime later today....should be interesting. Trevor's never let us down before, hopefully this won't be the first time.

Looks like I missed a lot of discussion over the weekend!

I was encouraged by the idea that the PF line will be focusing on villians for a little while, and the new maquette line will roll out with some of the heroic characters.

I am still curious to see how Sideshow might handle the hooded/non-hooded sculpts that we have seen, and that might be enough to have me order directly from Sideshow for an exclusive.

I think that the preview looks enticing, but I don't know that I have seen any likeness for Viggo hit the mark yet. The PF is my favorite, and while I did have an extra attachment to the Weta Line due to the sculptors, I don't feel like those likenesses were very strong. I am really curious as to how the rest of the statue will look, and the level of detail! I am optimistic that this will look great when we get to see more.

I've been looking at the Strider preview on and off the last couple of days, and you know what, he's growing on me.

At first I was like others, thought it looked quite 'off', and you may laugh, but the more I look at, the more I see Viggo. I think other angles may prove people wrong come Thursday.

It will take a lot for me to not order this, however I am going into this line expecting a full Fellowship to display. Probably at my own peril with SS, but we've seen 5 out of 9 shown at some point, so i'm quietly confident, but I just hope SS can confirm whether or not we will be seeing whe whole Fellowship.

This looks amazing in my opinion. Is it a perfect sculpt of Viggo? No, but overall, this is fantastic.

Great looking base.

oooh, i like!

A bit unsure though, as that base wouldn't fit in with the SSW statues, whose bases i like because they're just black and lets you focus on just the character.

And, UGH. I hate switch out head exclusives. Real museum quality statues don't have switch-out heads

It's the maquette, but I can't tell if it's a finished piece or a photoshopped mock up of the concept art.

EDIT: I think it is a finished maquette...if you look at the bottom of the base, there seems to be runes around it. Those who did not like the over stylized dynamic pose of the Gandalf the Grey concept art won't be happy.

LOVE IT!! This is so bought.

However I agree I think it is a little overpriced, and the ex is definately a must. Great Viggo sculpt on the hoodless head imo.

And that is the Gandalf maquette in the background, certainly not just the concept art, I am 100% sure. Gandalf looks toned down from the slightly wild concept art too, which is good.

But it's definitely THE best rendition of Aragorn, period.
