Are 1:12 figures the next big thing?

I do think part of the appeal of 1/6 is that they are of such a size that you can see them well from greater distances than with smaller figures. But, maybe that's just something that appeals to me. I have a Detolf shelf across the room in my bedroom, and I can see all the figures there pretty well. With 6" toys, you have to get kind of close to really appreciate them.

Totally agree with the display aspect of 1/6th and 1/4th. Those scales look great on display. My 1/12th looks great if I squint.

I collect Minimates, which are 2 inches tall, and they look great when you have an army of them on display, even from afar. But you can't catch the details at all without walking up to the shelf.

I'm the opposite of a lot of you guys. I would love to see a 1/12 line if they could get as much detail in as the 1/6 stuff. I collect all kinds of scales and though I like my Hot Toys stuff I wish they took up less room. Honestly, it would be more impressive if they could capture all of that detail a smaller size.

It's not a scale I've been wanting to collect, but I could see dipping in every now and then if the figures were there and the execution was done well. It might be something I wait on though to see how deep the lines get. I don't want to waste my time if their only going to make a couple of the big characters then stop.

Surprised HT hasn't bulldozed all the licenses for 6". If these catch on you will see HT launch a 6" line...

Perhaps a different perspective? I am a long time ~1/12ish scale collector, typically staying at 1/10. I realized, with the GOTG legends wave that 1/12 does not fit with anything I collect, and I've had a hard time displaying the set with anything I have up. I've been buying in on the Star Wars Black Series, but the set is self contained, so it's okay. The last true 1/12 series I collected was ToyBiz LotR.

That being said; I just got my first 1/6 Hot Toy on Friday; and I am not torn from my 1/10 roots, but have a new appreciation for the category and will adjust my collecting accordingly. I think the Black Series is out the window for me save for a figure here and there, and I'm going to remain picking and choosing 1/10 from NECA as I had been (they're what keeps up best with my high end product now). At this point, I will funnel more budget to 1/6, admittedly.

I have my Hot Toy in a detolf cube of it's own, and my other figures about it in other shelves. It's a nice breakup; mixing scales (as long as they are not on the same shelf, as best as possible) makes for a very visually appealing display. I think the exclusion to this is a solid 1:1 ratio of 1/6 Figure to detolf cube. I LOVE that set up.

Just as 1/6 did not replace 1/12 when it got big, I don't think 1/12 will overtake 1/6 now. With that being said, I think the 1/12 Collective is an extremely niche market; it will thrive, just not overtake the market as people are expecting it to. I'm sorry, a properly articulated (read: hidden articulation) will look just as good on the shelf, and $20 vs $60 presents no contest.

For example, say Mezco brings out a ~$60 Walter White in 1/12. There are stores retailing the ThreeZero Walter for ~$115. I think the latter presents itself as a better "deal". I think for these to go anywhere BIG, they need to bring them under $50 a figure, plain and simple. Heck, under $50 might have bought the figures a bit of limited brick and mortar space in limited TRUs.

I think the 1/12 scale works wonderfully for less, lets say, realistic characters.
The Batman figures spring to mind, the size is perfect for the spandex wearing hero. I think you'd get into trouble as soon as you wanted to make clothing for realistic looking figures. Maybe the simple Star Trek uniforms would also work well.

I'm open to collecting anything that captures the character it's meant to depict, so I'm keeping my eyes open to these new collectibles.

Here is the thing, Mezco's Batman does look fantastic. It's also hyperstylized to match the thicker artwork of Frank Miller. Let's see their releases with mixed media in dealing with more generalized looks or even if they can get something to look more like the Fett posted above than a Mego. I think this format has potential but since it is competing with lines like Marvel Legends or the Funko 6" line, it should look exceptionally better for the cost.

I am very excited about these 1/12 high quality figures. It seems people really liked the batman one. I have the dredd on preorder. Did they announce any other ones? I would really like superman 1/12. Or even better, the whole justice league.

They look very good of course, but I don't think they are the next thing. They are what the 8" Mego were to the 12" Mego. I did prefer the 12". But, with increasing prices, they might become the norm as the smaller GI Joe replaced the bigger ones in the 70s for similar reasons.

I can't see human likeness characters working in 1/12 scale. Wouldn't the cost of the license and the actors likeness be prohibitive producing figures at this smaller scale? If it were HT they would probably end up being $100 per figure.

Masked figures and robots would work well in 1:12 scale. I'm not one to collect multiples of the same characters however, so I've started with 1:6 and I'll stay with that.

ThunderCats Classics!!! I had not heard about this yet. Cant wait to see how they look.

I'd never buy anything 1/12 scale. Too small.

If companies want to use scale as a loophole in the hopes of grabbing licenses not already tied up then 1/5 would be the better way to go.
Sideshow are producing some statues in that scale and its actually quite a nice. Gives a more imposing presence than 1/6 while not taking up as much room as 1/4.

I do like Blitzway working in 1/3 for their Bruce Lee statues. I'd be very interested in seeing more in this scale.
I've found its still manageable and will mostly fit in the same areas a 1/4 statue would, while being a greater 'volume' and shelf presence.
(1/2 however is enormous both in height and base width and you basically need to build dedicated display areas for them, or center your collection around the piece)

Well 1:12 / 6 inch is not something new, we already shfiguart, figma marvel legend, dc collectibles , neca on that regard. Hot Toys breakthrough over 1:6 because their vision to create imaginative figure lifelike and accurate which never done before.

Though I haven't picked up one in a while I was paying about the same amount for 3A, Revoltech, Figma and Monsterarts as I did for my Mezco Batmans.

The way Mezco Batman sold, 1/12 scale could be the next big alternative. For larger universes this would be ideal to help in collecting more figures since the cost would be less.

Personally I would collect Star Wars figures in this scale since it's so large. I just have four (4) Star Wars figures in 1/6 scale. Figures for same amount of money could be a 3:1 ratio, for 1/12 to 1/6 respectively.

The cost would be less... But not for long, trust me! When companies start putting their greedy paws in that and we blindlessly buy, I can only see the prices rise astronomically...:)
