Re: Art Books

Got my art of District 9 book the other day. Wow even more impressed now that its in my hands. The book is really a cross between conceptual design of characters and vehicles and alot of graphic design from the symbols and fonts used even down to the street signs in the film and the different insignia between MNU and the prawns with there paint stamps. Awesome weapon designs as well, there designer even came up with samples of the alien writings.
Phenomenal book, I think this is one of the best books Ive gotten recently. The to see the evolution of the prawn design is amazing as well. :hi5:

Re: Art Books

Okay I have to take back what I said about the Vampirella book. I went back to the comic shop and paged through. Although it didn't have full pages of the older Warren publications cover it did have some decent spreads in there. I guess I just grew up with the gonzalez art and loved that feel. The Mark Texeira artwork of her are just stellar, Drakulonastic

Re: Art Books

Yeah I actually bought the Vampirella Art book not knowing too much about the different artists that have done her over the years. Overall the Art that is in it is great I think, with some standing out more than others, especially the Mike Mayhew, Jim Silke and Joe Jusko pieces in my opinion. I also liked the overview of Vampirella that it had and the couple artist interviews it had, with I think Joe Jusko and Amanda Conner.

So yeah, overall I think it's a really good book. If you grew up on certain artists or are used to certain ones, you may have a different opinion on what Art is included. I definitely think it's worth picking up regardless though.

Icon's Jim Lee books is freakin amazing, almost as amazing as the Art of Avatar the Last Airbender (cartoon version) - I literally read the whole book

Sweet. What did that set you back ?

Re: Art Books

The Lee signed Icons book from Midtown was probably just left overs that Jim signed while he was there at the store. Midtown sold those online for the same price as just a normal book. I think I paid $40 or something for mine.

Re: Art Books

you can still get the regular version from Amazon. I had gotten the PX exclusive one that I think has some 7 pages of story at the end. not really sure. haven't made it to the end yet:)

Re: Art Books

I just picked up the Jim Lee Icons book from Amazon, and it arrived today with a small bent corner. It's not really noticeable with the dust jacket on, but it's there and I'm wondering if I should replace it and chance getting another one in as good a shape??

What do you guys think?

Re: Art Books

I personally wouldn't return it but it really depends on how much it bothers you. I have a couple Art books that have bent corners and unless it's really bad it doesn't tend to bother me that much.

I just really wish Amazon would pack their books better. I love ordering from them but just using those air pillow things leaves a lot to be desired. The book still moves around inside the box, so they should really figure out a way to stop that from happening. Especially when it comes to Art books.

Re: Art Books

yeah to me books are meant to be "used" in a sense. Little bends and folds like that dont bother me, but its all a matter of preference.
