Okay Asmus, this is what I meant with the eyebrows and eyes. I hope the retail price is the same one as for Merry & Pippin.
Any updates on Legolas or Gimli? Will Frodo only be available in the 2-pack?

Was there an estimated release given for Frodo & Sam? February? March? April?
Great detail on Sting btw. I wonder if Sam will come with lembas bread packed in some leaves. :lol

Sam looks a lot better there! Thank you, Asmus!

Frodo is much improved, too! But he's not quite there for me.

Am I correct in assuming we're too far into production for any re-sculpting? We're just talking paint at this point, correct? If that's the case, then this paint job works for me!

(My tweaks would be tiny, but would be sculptural, not paint-based. I think his mouth is a hair too large and that brow furrow could be smoothed out.)

But if they turned out like these pictures, they'll still be a day-one pre-order for me!

The paintwork on Sam looks great. On Frodo I would maybe dial back the flushed cheeks and nose a little. I know he looked that way in the film a lot, but I feel like a more even skin tone would help calm down the expression. And perhaps slightly smaller pupils in the eyes.

It does look like the sculpt changed a bit around the corners of the mouth and the brow. Curious.

Looking forward to seeing more of this set - costume, accessories, etc. Hoping his shirt underneath gets some love so a Mt Doom look might be an option. How did he get his shirt back, anyway? Thought he was all naught but his skin :) Movie magic.

Here's a little photoshop thingy with some adjustments. Pupils, skin tone and a general smoothing out of things. Trying to get a little of that baby-faced Elijah going on. Plus I'm bored at work.

Thanks for being open to feedback, Asmus!

I think Sam is close enough but there's just something off with the Frodo sculpt. The mouth, lips in particular, the jaw line too square and lower eyelids could use some softening.

Got the latest painted version from the factory.
If this is good, it will be the final paint job for MASS production.

I like them. Frodo's much better than the blocky one we saw at the show. These close-up shots never do anyone any favors.

Samwise may be a wee bit rotund -- need to see some other angles. Frodo's features may be off -- nose too strong -- but I have a feeling he looks better in scale and in hand.

Yeah these are really close and probably the best we're gonna get short of a custom job. I dream of a dead-on lifelike Frodo and Sam but that's just an unrealistic expectation I suppose. I just hope the final factory paint is good.

They are not 100% perfect but they look good to me. I know who they are immediately and I couldn't be more pumped for the pre order to start!!i think frodo looks excellent and the clothing looks really nice as always. I think Sam looks really good too just a bit to chunky maybe. Has the ring been shown yet? Will the ring be metal asmus? Thanks asmus and keep up the good work

I think Asmus posed the question about the paint -- so I'm guessing the sculptwork is done.

I see Frodo's nose and Sam's 'fatness' as the biggest issues with the sculpts. But again, when the sculpt is the size of my thumb I'm a lot more forgiving.

I have a suspicion you're right. Paint is good. No bueno on sculpts.

True, scale is a big factor. But I'm struggling to find resemblance in the Frodo sculpt. His cheek structure is dead on. The rest... lots of areas are subtly off, some majorly off, but it all just gives me a big impression of off. The shape of the upper lip is good, lower lip slightly off. But the mouth isn't in the right position compared to the nose (length of philtrum is way off); the bottom part of the nose is pretty close but the bridge is weirdly creased in a way Elijah's doesn't crease in real life, the eyes are incorrectly placed by just a few smidgens and his left eyelid is slightly misshapen, the chin is disproportionate to the mouth, and the hair strands are a bit chunky and undetailed.

The philtrum and the mouth being too low on his are the main things throwing it, but the eyes aren't right either. They're all that's off, really, but the overall effect is devastating IMO.

As for Sam, the mouth and the chin are just wrong, the jawbone structure is hidden by fat that wasn't on Sean Astin's face, the eyes are ok, the nose is slightly off and the bridge of the nose is correctly creased when compared to Astin looking a bit moodier, but isn't really right for the expression on the rest of the sculpt, and the haircut is too much of a bowl cut from what that picture suggests.

Those are my thoughts on this. :lol

Frodo looks decent, but Sam somehow looks worse than he did when I saw him up-close at NYCC. Sam's face was nowhere near that fat, and I don't understand what reference photos they used that mad them think he was so round-faced. I know Asmus said our critiques would be taken to heart to improve these before production, but I don't see any positive changes to that Sam sculpt at all. Alas.
