Sam... I don't know. I just am not convinced that Sean Astin was anywhere near that chunky in the movies, especially when there's a photo of him right behind the figure.
I commented previously, that he is not that fat, and that his cheekbones have to be more pronounced, so he does not look fat. Seems the sculpt was not modified, since the question on likeness here.

I don't disagree with the criticisms but when I'm looking at the sculpts without comparing them to movie stills they do capture the characters, IMO.

They look like Sam and frodo to me and if the paint apps are a bit off I'd imagine it's just because these are prototypes that were completed to display at nycc. Asmus has been doing great work lately and I'm all in for the fellowship

I'm pretty certain the final product will look a lot better. Asmus has been around us here long enough to know exactly what the reaction would be upon revealing these prototypes.

At this point, I'm glad to see them and look forward to them being available sometime early next year.

They're both off, but Sam's mouth stands out for me. Would like to see him up close as well. From these pics, I hate his mouth.

I'm sure the paint will improve.

I got to see these in person today at NYCC, and they look absolutely terrible. Sam looks fat as anything, Frodo looks miserable.

I was pleasantly surprised at how much better these figures look in person after seeing them today. I actually regretted not getting Gandalf now, I am going to have to hope for a LOTR version. Saruman, Gandalf, Thranduil....I was happy with them. But the Hobbits....not good.

Also, I talked with the staff at the booth for a few minutes, Gimli and Thorin sound like they are going to be the next figures Asmus prepares to reveal.

Yup, I asked if they were planning on doing Boromir and Faramir in the near future, and they told me they were still in the planning stages with those two, designs and accessories and such, but they will be doing Gimli and Thorin and I should check back for them if I was enjoying the line, so that definitely sounds like promising news to me!

We value the comments on Frodo and Sam,
once they are back, we will revisit and make them better.

Gimli and Thorin? Multiple MUST-BUYS for me! And Thranduil! :blissy

Take my money, ASMUS, PLZ!!!

That picture of the sculpt just comes across as stern and intense... which are not Frodo's traits.

If the eyebrows were raised a bit and the mouth parted slightly, it would have the expression closer to that picture.

EW's lower lip is more full than this sculpt IMO. The actor's nose I think is a tad less strong. From figure pic it looks like shading was done in paint at the inner corners of the eyes, which makes the eyes look closer together. W. the intense stare gives the RB look.

What other folks are saying - love to see some tweaks/repaints. But IMO a lot of good in the sculpt.

While I agree that Frodo and Sam need work...nitpicking about the lower lip might be taking it just a little too far. There's constructive criticism and then there's being obnoxious. I think, for the most part, Asmus enjoys the feedback and takes what we have to say seriously, but when we nitpick about such subtle things it makes it seem like the work isn't good enough and I think it has a lot to do with why they seem to interact less here.

Paint apps is a big thing, the sculpt of the face as a whole is a big thing. But lower lip? C'mon, man.

Hey, since no one's saying it - thanks for interacting and listening to the feedback. I know a lot of it is probably rough to hear because people know how to criticize without being constructive. But anyhow, looking forward to the revisions!

Yes!

It's easy to criticize... when you are unable to create.

Totally agree.
