Is the scale sufficiently different that the Sideshow Sam sculpt wouldn't fit on the Asmus Sam?

The head would look way to large plus the paint style wouldn't match the rest of the hobbits even if the size didn't bother you. The Asmus four hobbits look great together though even with the short comings on Sam in my opinion.

Given the quick sellout of the Hobbits I wonder if that helps with the possibility of alternate versions of the Hobbits down the line. I would really like to see armored versions of Merry and Pippin and Mordor versions of Frodo and Sam. In the meantime hopefully they can at least get out their Fellowship capes.

I said in my 1/6th scale End of 2016 Collection Update video yesterday that the Asmus Frodo and Sam had shipped, but I hadnt received them yet. And one day later they have arrived! Full video review up soon :)

The likenesses arent perfect, but everything else is fantastic with these figures. The tailoring in the outfit and quality of accessories is really nice.

Even the sculpting on the hair has been improved. If they improved on their facial likenesses, Asmus would definitely be a force to be reckoned with in the 1/6th scale arena.

Asmus said in a SSF post that mold deformation during production was no longer an issue for them. I have to say I disagree! Putting aside the likeness issues, the final production molds for Merry and Pippin were at least deformation free.

But if you look at Frodo and Sam (more obvious on Frodo I think), they exhibit the same issue that has plagued their previous figures. The left side of the face is slightly lower than the right side, where you can see the eyes are lower. It's like they have a left droopy face!

Pretty disappointed that they have still not fixed this problem. It's a real shame, because they definitely improved in the sculpting detail of the hair and the facial paint apps too.

You can clearly see that the left side of their faces are drooping lower than the right. On Sam, it also seems like the face is pushed to the left a little, which makes him fatter on the left side of this face, like he's just been injected on that side of the face by the dentist!

Your camera is doing some weird warping, so its hard to see what you mean. But that's disheartening to hear.

Sam's face relative to his neck looks really strange though.

I missed the 2-pack hoping that Frodo would be offered alone... so I'll have to wait and see if that happens OR if Frodo makes another appearance in some other outfit. His Gondor armor moment perhaps...?

Definitely not my camera having lens distortion issues. My video review is almost done with editing. Will be up soon, but I show the head sculpts up close to show the issue.

No, not about the drooping but your picture of Sam/Frodo is 'pulling' to the sides -- you can see it clearly on Frodo's hair (one side larger than the other) and Sam's shoulders.

Eager to see your review. Hurry!

I swear that's not my camera! That's just the sculpt! Hopefully will be clearer in a moving video, unless those things have lens distortion type issues too? Might be a couple hours to upload though since my internet here is pretty slow. Will post when it's up.

Overall, happy with the quality of accessories and tailoring of outfits. Even the head sculpts improved in the detail of the hair strands and facial paint app. Just a shame about the deformation.

Good god man -- I'm trusting your discerning eye... but how can you not see photo distortion in your own photos? :lol

Here's both your pictures of Frodo from above side by side -- the one on your right is distorted. See how the hair is fuller on the right side and the lapel wider? If that's not distortion then why doesn't the picture on the left look the same?

The angle is different in those two pics! The one on the left I tried to get perfectly front on. Whereas the one on the right is at an angle, and he has his head turned to the side! I turned both Frodo's and Sam's head in their shot together so that I could try to get both looking into the lens lol

Ah-ha! And why do you have to turn them slightly to get them both looking into the lens? To compensate for distortion! :wink1:

Depending on the lens, the closer to the edge of frame the more 'warp' you get.... or pull... or whatever you want to call it. I don't see any more of the side of Frodo's nose in either photo... which I should if you turned him slightly.
