Bah I dunno. I just use a crappy cheap Canon IXUS point-and-shoot camera lol. Nothing fancy in my camera work. I did have to zoom in a bit, so maybe that caused a bit. Either way, I just looked at my video footage again, and it's pretty clear there's a drooping issue similar to previous figures. It was NOT present on the Merry and Pippin figures, so it just seems Asmus cant quite get the combo of no deformation and improved paint app and sculpting details.

I'm sure you're correct on the drooping. I'm sure its there. The distortion thing I'm talking about has nothing to do with whether the face droops or not. The distortion I'm talking about is simply pulling both figures hair and face and clothing to the frame edges, slightly. That's all. That's why you have to correct (turn) your figure when placing them closer to edge of frame.

Just to be clear, I wasn't dismissing the drooping with claims of distortion. I want that on the record. :)

Anyway, whatever. I'm turning in but I'm eager to watch your review in the morning.

Here's my review of the new Asmus Toys Frodo and Sam 2-figure set. The head sculpts are still a bit disappointing, letting down an otherwise awesome set with great tailoring on the clothes and high quality accessories.

Forgot to show or mention in my review about how to attach the cooking accessories to the bag. Getting the strap on the bag through the tiny little holes in the accessories was so damn frustrating! I managed to do it in the end after some bad language lol. Looks great after it's all done, but man they could've made those holes a tiny bit bigger!

Very much enjoyed your review. The quality from Asmus has really improved and makes me hopeful for a good Legolas figure from them

The clothing on Frodo looks to fit very well and his overall body shape and proportions seem to help him look Hobbit sized - as opposed to Merry in the pic above - who sort of looks squashed down.

Please let Legolas be good. Please!!!!

Hmm, might have to go back and have a closer look to see if the bodies are the same. I thought it was just the wider stance that made Merry and Pippin look a little shorter, but can't be sure from this pic.

I'm sorry but that Sam sculpt is 😞
It's too bad because everything else about the figures looks incredible.
But the faces do not look good, and let's be honest it's the first thing people look at. Asmus does themselves a disservice because the quality of the clothing and accessories looks tremendous.
I could live with Frodo as is, but Sam....I'm going to have to rethink collecting the full fellowship now.

I've been one of their biggest cheerleaders but I have to admit that some of things they've done lately really bug me. Still no word on the replacement GTW sculpt. Some people have not received their ring wraith replacement body. I don't think Tauriels sculpt has been replaced for those with warpage issues. And even though I've defended it in the past GTG head sculpt should have been a lot better. Now add Sam and Frodo to the list and it does start making you wonder what's going on.

Setup together they still look pretty good for filthy Hobbitses :)

Nice review.

Merry and Pippin look a bit suntanned compared to the nicer coloring on Frodo and Sam. But Sam definitely looks to be the least accurate to the source, even though he's a better made figure then the previous two.

They do all look great together, though I've never been a fan of having them all wear their cloaks -- way too much green hiding suck nice vibrant outfits.

The 2 pack is the only way they would get anyone to buy that Sam sculpt :huh

Yes, I believe that could be the case.

But a "slim" version of Frodo could be a possibility down the road. Or an alternate outfit Frodo.

I hope. Otherwise I remain Frodo-less. Unless I use the Sideshow, which I'm sure is too oversized and way out of date.

Hmmm, so what's the problem - poor art direction? Lack of talent on the sculptor's part? How can Asmus get on the right track here?

They look like bootleg figures that couldnt afford the license for the actors likeness.

Exactly. I hope they didn't pay extra fees for the likeness of the actors. Frodo looks nothing like Elijah Wood, but when I look at him my brain immediately recognises the character of Frodo Baggins. Sam on the other hand looks nothing like Sean Astin and looks nothing like Samwise Gamgee. He looks more like Toy Biz or DID took a crack at it...

I don't mean to be overly rude or disrespectful to Asmus. I'm just thoroughly disappointed as I was invested in for the long haul with this line and now after collecting 14 of their figures I have to reconsider my whole collection as the 2 leading characters just don't do it for me.

I genuinely want the best for Asmus and I want them to be successful. I just don't think I can continue to support them at this time.
