Even Galadriel’s final product was inferior to the prototype. I didn’t complain so much but going forward I wouldn’t mind a slight price increase for better quality."Prototype shown, final product may be slightly different" etc. shouldn't be an excuse to release something that looks nothing like the prototype (especially since we saw it only disaply at Sideshow Con only a month ago).
Gandalf turned out poorly with those dead eyes and terrible hat, and now this with a much inferior sculpt and inaccurate hair colour.
All they had to do was provide something at least close to the prototypes for these and I'd have been satisfied.
I put the hat on Arwen just for fun to show the absurdity of the execution and design.I give them credit for at least trying with the eyes on Gandalf, but the hat was inexcusable. Still, the figure was nice looking otherwise, even if Asmus dropped the ball by not offering replacement hats.
Legolas just doesn’t even look like the prototype anymore. It looks entirely different…because it is. Those sculpted braids weren’t visible in the prototype. If they were there, they blended in with the hair. Now they stand out way too much, mostly due to the wrong hair color. And the hair color is a massive issue…I clearly need to have this repainted if I want it to look correct.
This is a massive disappointment from Asmus and a step backwards for all the goodwill they’ve earned with their recent releases. What a shame. I don’t know if I’ll even keep my pre-order anymore.
Price increase wont help, they charged $350 for Gandalf and the prototype was honestly perfect, the final product doesn't even compare to the prototype for him imo.Even Galadriel’s final product was inferior to the prototype. I thought so too regarding the sculpted braids but they are there in the prototype but the rooted hair is pulled forward obscuring/blending it. Then there’s the color choice which made the transition more seamless, with the crayola yellow it is just in your face, more prominent and glaring.I give them credit for at least trying with the eyes on Gandalf, but the hat was inexcusable. Still, the figure was nice looking otherwise, even if Asmus dropped the ball by not offering replacement hats.

If not for the eyes I think we’d feel differently, but yeah, you’re not totally wrong herePrice increase wont help, they charged $350 for Gandalf and the prototype was honestly perfect, the final product doesn't even compare to the prototype for him imo.
Yeah, true, but the eyes are probably the most important feature on a human face so if you mess those up then it kind of detracts from the entire thing. If not for the eyes I think we’d feel differently, but yeah, you’re not totally wrong here
This sculpt isn't the same as the prototype they showed though, at least it really doesn't look like it is, so even fixing the hair colour wont save this figure for me.That’s why Legolas is so disappointing. Asmus tried something new for them with Gandalf, it didn’t really work out great but the sculpt was what it was at that point.
Asmus can still fix the painted hair on Legolas. Everything else is done…delay the figure for a month and match the hair color to the prototype. They won’t do it and it’s really a shame. Sales wool rightfully suffer.
This just feels like another Faramir situation. No one can get rid of those figures. The likeness isn’t bad but the paint/hair color/beard are just horrendous.
Did you repaint yours or did it come that way? Also do you have pics?I think he looks good! I wasn't terribly upset with the first version either. (Though mine doesn't have the cartoony yellow hair I've seen in some pictures. It's actually silvery blonde as it should be.) So I'm not super worried about this one. I'll make my judgment when I see him in person.
Everybody's mileage varies, of course. I just hope those who get him, end up liking him.
