fat and old compared to his older/younger self he portrayed in the lotr , but yeah there is a few inches of extra fabric in the hobbit costume

As long as the sculpting of the hair is fine enough, I would hope they did mixed media for the hair like Tauriel. The problem with Tauriel was that the sculpted hair wasn't fine enough and the difference became too apparent.

I think Legolas does need a mixture of sculpted and rooted hair. Unlike Gandalf who isn't really mobile, Legolas is the very definition of mobile in the LOTR movies.

I just hope that they execute it better than they did with Tauriel and that the ponytails work out ok.
