Eyes don't look nearly as bad in these new pictures. Slightly recessed but it's not nearly as bad as people were making it out to be on the promo photos that were out last week.

My only concern is the hair. It looks great, but it shouldn't all blend together as one like that. In the films, the beard is distinctly separate from the rest of his hair. Has anyone figured if that's something that can be addressed with futzing yet?

What material did they use? Anyway, I was gonna go in with some gel and some warmed nails - or something - and futz to get that bit of waviness u see in the proto photos. Make the hair more "piecey".:frank

He's gonna look great with Hobbit Thorin and Bilbo - whenever he gets here; for me it will be a while.

I have a custom Moria Base I've been using for my Frodo, but I think Ill be giving it to Gandalf here. Gandalfs base will go to Bilbo.

Really can't wait to get this. And speaking of which my Tracking for mine has not updated since its initial scan on the 8th....

I too was thinking of giving the Gandalf base to Bilbo.

The figure looks great in these new pics. I pre-ordered back in the morning of June 26, 2019, the third age. Still no word from Asmus... :monkey2

Arguably his legs might be a little longer perhaps to give an illusion of greater height. He seems tallest in the movie but he?s actually same height as Vigo Mortensen and Orlando Bloom. The hat of course helps create that perception, but even in scenes not wearing the wizard hat he looks tallest among them. At any rate, Ian McKellan is 5? 11??. And honestly the figure matches what I see here irl for the actor:

Yeah I suppose it could just be the big hair and beard making his head look oversized to me.

It’s always strange that book Gandalf is 5’6” yet he’s one of the taller members of Fellowship in the film.

It doesn't seem to affect the other figures there.

Objects towards the edge of the frame, especially in corners, generally are going to be distorted while objects in the center of the frame will be relatively true to form. In those shots Gandalf is super far right in frame and fills most of the vertical space starting at the top corner. That's going to seriously throw proportions off.

I just bought Asmus? Bilbo just for that express purpose. :duff:

Not sure if I'll be using the stand much. It's way too crowded to try to fit him on the stand with the gate and mailbox. You can appreciate the figure better with just a regular stand.

I might be able to fit it behind Gandalf on a regular stand, though.

There is an issue for my set with the stand accessories. The peg at the bottom of the mailbox post doesn't fit into it's slot. I will have to shave it down with a razor blade. That's a small pain in the *** that I shouldn't be dealing with.

The pegs for the gate posts barely fit as well, for that matter. In the pictures above the mailbox is just barely squeezed into the base and resting against the gate post. It would fall over if not resting against the gate post.

Does the mustache look this patchy in-hand?

Nah, you have to remember that is a brightly lit closeup. The mustache is actually tiny on the figure. Your brain is taking in an overall impression and other details leap out as more prominent.

The hat is a shame, for sure, but on such a beautiful figure it’s a lone con next to a long list of pro’s.
That’s the closest I have seen it to looking correct Alatar, nicely done!
I guess I can hope my seemingly longer wait will mean a different cut hat... fingers crossed! Though I imagine everything else is done except the headsculpts at this point.

I hate it when my brain does that.

That's good, because the pic looks like glued on straw.

All I can say is in hand under normal lighting conditions imho few would notice it. The eye is drawn to the things that look great. Well, mine is anyway. But I suspect most people's will as well. We'll see!
