I'm not going to say that this is a home run by any stretch, but I don't think Adam's shot there looks bad at all. I think the way he took the picture is just fine. There was no "trickery" involved in trying to make it look good. Many figures can be made to look bad as well as good by choosing unusual angles or taking the picture too close to the figure. I certainly have no intention of looking up at my Tauriel from a distance of six inches. If mine looks like what Adam has posted, then I will be content at least, not overjoyed, but content. I will reserve final judgment until I get mine in a few weeks.

I like it, im that ***** who doesnt see the faults. Eye liner is too dark, but that isnt a biggy for me.

you shouldn't have to light it a certain way and look at it from one type of angle for the figure to work. it's either a good sculpt/paint job or it's not, squinting and looking at it from 45 meters away while throwing glitter in the air shouldn't be what you need to do to make the figure look good.

in saying that though the other pics do look a bit better, i do think the other figure has some what of half melted face though, it's not even.

I for one appreciate your honesty Batsheva.

Thank you very much, SirGor.

I am a collector, and I am sure everyone here's too. In this case, as a collector, who really expect good stuff (especially with the amount of money spent),
I'm just disappointed with the final product. I always think Asmus can do better. And I want to show the people here why I'm disappointed. It might help some, who doesn't know how the final product looks like, whether they're ok or not ok with it. If you like it and want to buy it, then it's your call. Personally I don't like it, due to it's lack of likeness, and for me, IMHO the headsculpt's just terrible.
I expect Asmus to do better, and I'm only asking because I know they can. I have their other products, and I have seen their other products that are better than this.

Thank you WolfBoy.. that's exactly what I mean. It's not a "trickery" thing, with that exact light.. it's just not the overall actual figure that you get.

It's a dangerous business, ordering figures without in-hand pics. You spend your money, and if the factory ****s it up, there's no knowing what you'll get on Ebay...

I'll definitely be waiting for a consensus of in-hand pics. But in the event that some heads are actually better than others, hopefully batsheva gets hooked up for taking the plunge.

Hi guys, I tried applying some powder that women used on their faces.. I feel it's slightly better.. Juz my opinion.. Yup, face is not symmetric. Cheers.. :)

That's the clearest pic (to me) of the distortion. Bummer. I still see tons of Evangeline Lilly in there, and I REALLY wanted this one, but that's a bit scary.

I do think you've reduced the "raccoon eyes" nicely, Adamchua.

Immediately better likeness just by adding some powder. I don't know why they felt the need to make her eyes so dark.
However I find it odd that her face isn't symmetrical. Granted not everyone's face is, but this makes it look like she's had a stroke or something.

My guess is a problem with the mold or the casting/pulling process (I'm no expert). Didn't Asmus have a similar issue with the elongated Gandalf the White head?

Now in that natural light, we can all see the melting face. Thanks Adam.

And that is the best angle for the figure. You can see a bit of Lilly there, but once you move it, it's gone. Trust me. Tilt the face a bit up, and that distortion made the face awful. Just look at it yourself when you have it in hand.

Asmus.. do something.

See, this is why I insist to have the figure shot in natural light, and in several tilts. Otherwise, when people see a good shot (which is taken in non natural light and in the exact good angle), they think there's no problem at all.

I have tried to show you all. And if Asmus decided to fix the headsculpt and make it better, it's never a bad thing for us customers.

Ok, I also want to help Asmus, pointing them how badly distorted the head is.. So I made this photoshop tweak. I know it's thousand times easier to tweak it in PS, than to sculpt it in real 3D, but that's why I am paying Asmus to get the figure instead of making it myself. Anyway, here's the tweak from Adam's actual pic:

So I did my best to fix the distortions, and to add more likeness. FYI, I didn't put anything from real photos of Lilly, just tweaking it from Adam's photo. Likeness is like that, you do just slight mistakes, and it's gone. Same goes with drawing, and I have been drawing for quite a while (I did the latest Marvel's House of M series, there's no realist drawing with people's likeness there, but I also draw realist) to know that likeness is such a sophisticated thing to get. That's why I appreciate a good sculpt, a lot.

I also add some details to the hair, so it's not flat.

I know the PS tweak is also far from perfect, but it's just a quick sample, my effort to -perhaps- help Asmus figuring out what/how they did wrong.

Hi guys, thanks for all the comments. Unfortunately for the new eye liner lighten, it is still visible on hand. somehow pics makes it look lighter. Anyway, was playing and posing with the figure.. Hope to share new pics with you all. Taken with hp though. Hope to see other pics from various collectors and any know how to make it better. :)

And yes, someone mentioned the problem with the boots.. yes, it's not articulated. The boots are stiff, like Adam's last pic. It's very disturbing for posing.

Nice pictures! You were able to get some great action poses with her.

man, what a bummer, after saw the in hand pics here, that heavy make ups really bothers me, adamchua has made a nice effort on making it less visible, and he himself said it still quite visible if you are not seeing it from the photo, and this is the first Asmus figure that I pre ordered :slap:

I try to recap the progress of this figure, and how it makes my expectation going so much down
tr6.jpg

this is the first proto that Asmus show us, I pre ordered as soon as the figure available for one, based on this, I still feel 'contempt' if I must say,
then Asmus update her headsculpt, and I really like it, if Asmus decided to use this one as their final Tauriel product, yeah, I have no complain at all
tauriel.jpg

and then, it all happened, I went to a comicon which Asmus shows their product, Tauriel is one of them, oh how I was excited to see her from my own eyes, and boy how surprised I was to see them adding that heavy make ups that everyone is complaining now

She also look somehow more angry that the previous prototype, as if after the battle of he five armies she snap and becoming a dark elf or something :rotfl:
I gotta say, that stunt is kinda odd for Asmus, on other products, it seem that they always gives updates to the collectors, heck, even after the first actual product finished, they still asking collectors for input, but again, I still has a positive thinking, probably they still showing a product that will be improved later (one can hope)

but unfortunately, that is the actual product, it's not slightly different from the prototype anymore, it's different, although I'm starting to guess why the decided to do those heavy make ups on her eyes, looks like that stunt is a sort of damage control, for making her face less distort, because from adamchua pics, I can see her face distortion more clearly from the less heavy make up photos.

sorry for this long rant, I know Asmus has been open and cooperative with collectors on their process, but on this one, it's a bummer

Hi guys, just sharing my thoughts after 2 days of playing with Tauriel and the Bard. I actually like both figures and glad to have them in my collections. Hopefully more people can post their pictures and share their thoughts. I was sad and surprise by the heavy eye liner too when final product pics first appeared. Major issue for me is the eye liner. But overall the figure still gives me the LOTR feel.... cheers :)
